I'm unsure of how I can get an appointment to see my doctor these days. I am told to ring up on the day I want an appointment at 8 or 12.30 but when I ring at this time I can't get through as the line is engaged. If I ring after these times, no appointments are available. If I ask for an appointment at a later date these are also booked up . I walked into the doctors today to try and book an appointment because I thought this would help but I was told they were full for the next two weeks, I asked for an appointment after the two weeks and they said they could not book one. I've been feeling unwell now for over three weeks and am hoping to feel better soon with no medical support but that isn't happening yet and I am concerned about my health, I explained this to the receptionist and they told me to go to a walk in centre or the hospital. I can't see the point of having a local doctor if this is the case. I would like advice as to if I am approaching the process of trying to get an appointment with my doctor incorrectly?

We have strived to run a safe service for the last 2 years and are always looking to amend our systems to improve patient care. We have been and will continue to communicate changes to our services via our practice website www.westleedsfamilypractice.co.uk, text messaging and posters. If you have not done so already, I would encourage you to register for our online services where you can book appointments online. Alternatively, you can download the NHS App and you can register for one or both services via our practice website. This should help with access to appointments at our peak times. The fact you still have to ring up at 8am to get an appointment is ridiculous. Most GP services now use the NHS app to book appointments online but west leeds family practice seems to be stuck in the dark ages as no appointments are ever shown as available on the app. This is wasting everyone's time including reception staff and its making it immensely difficult for patients who are in need to get the medical help they require.

As a Practice we strive to provide quality clinical care to all our patients. Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention. Through patient feedback, we can continue to re-evaluate and reflect. We will review our online appointments which are available to patients with a view to increasing the amounts that are bookable via NHS App and Online Services. The Patient Participation Group (PPG) works with patients and staff of West Leeds Family Practice to ensure that the practice delivers the best care for everyone registered. In the past few weeks I have needed to arrange appointments for myself and my child. On all occasions I have been able to get through quickly on the phone and have seen a clinician on the same day. Reception staff are always friendly and helpful and my experiences with a GP, ANP and practice nurse have all been really thorough, friendly and efficient. Thank you for everything that you are doing it’s really appreciated.
