    Had to contact the surgery quite a few times over the last few weeks and have been so impressed with the service I received. My husband has been in hospital and a number of staff from the team at castlegate have been so helpful to try and get the hospital to reply to my requests for information. Especially 3 members of the reception staff. Also helping me get results of blood tests reviewed by a clinician. These had been requested by a consultant but after speaking to at least 6 staff at the hospital I still had not had a reply. All staff I spoke to were very sympathetic and understanding which really helped at a very stressful time.

    I had an initial phone appointment with one of your Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANP) in July 2024, after experiencing a series of chest infections. I explained that the last one was one too many and I was asked to come into the surgery for a face-to-face meeting. Tests were arranged and antibiotics were prescribed as a result. A follow up x-ray was arranged for six weeks later. The antibiotics cleared up the chest infection, and I went to the follow up x-ray in good health and spirits. I had a phone call from the same member of staff a couple of days later, who said that the x-ray showed yet another chest infection, which surprised me as I wasn't experiencing any symptoms. This clearly piqued the interest of the ANP, who said she wanted to talk with one of the doctors. Long story short: a CT scan was organised and, while it didn't pick up anything wrong with my lungs, it did show a mass on one of my kidneys. I previously had no idea that it was there. Since then, I've been rushed through the system and had a partial nephrectomy to remove what has since been confirmed to be a malignant tumour. I can't thank the ANP who initially saw me enough - her listening to me in the first instance, and then her curiosity following the August x-ray might just have saved my life. Thanks to everyone involved in this whole process - I've had excellent care throughout, and am now well on my way to recovering from the surgery.

    I called to book an appointment for both myself and my husband. The receptionist was super helpful and asked all the correct questions, she messaged a colleague whilst I was on the phone to get an answer to a question that negated a need for an appointment for me, and managed to book my husband in for a telephone appointment with a GP in 2 days time, as the appointment wasn't super "urgent" The receptionist even remembered me when I called back in later with another request. This lady is an absolute asset to the surgery, demonstrating proactivity with a caring attitude. Thank you so much.

    I developed a painful foot condition just as I was about to go on a couple of days holiday. I phoned reception to ask for advice for painkillers or other treatment and was invited in for a consultation that day. Anticipating a discussion about painkillers, the practitioner set about diagnosing and treating the condition. The relief of the condition was almost immediate and I enjoyed my short break. Considering the time pressures that staff at Castlegate are under, I was surprised and delighted to receive a follow up call from the practitioner to enquire about the effectiveness of the treatment and to inform me of the results of a blood test! It demonstrated a level of care in excess of what I was expecting which is very much appreciated. I even received an text prompt reminding me of a future blood test and a means of making an appointment. Great Service - Well done!

    All staff, especially my GP, take great care with my complex medical needs. No request is too much, they liaise seamlessly with my various consultants at Newcastle hospital and are always willing to provide the extra services I require. I value my GP and the practice so much that I am making sure my house move means that I remain within their boundary - I know we have great practices around but nothing compares to this practice and I would never want to leave my GP. Every time I have a need they respond with efficiency and accuracy. They listen to feedback and are always willing to adapt their procedures to meet patients needs. My GP will often call me well after hours to make sure my needs are being met.

    I checked on my GP for my outstanding prescription and it was marked rejected therefore had not been processed and neither had I been informed of this from 7th Feb when it was marked rejected and I was about to run out of my medication..I.contacted reception and explained, I was immediately put through to prescription team and the problem was sorted straight away resulting in a new prescription being issued that day and I collected my medication next day....thankyou all..

    Dear patient - thanks for the comment, unfortunately as bothy of these apps are provided by third parties we are unable to control the information that is shown on each one. If your appointment shows on the NHS app it should also show on myGP. We are seeing that the NHS app is developing with many new features for patients and may be better to use going forward however it is patient personal choice as to which app you use.     A hospital consultant asked the surgery to approve medication they had prescribed onto my repeat medication list. The surgery completed the process in days. I was both pleasantly surprised and very grateful. Thank you
