Review titled Excellent Service
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Marc Millett - Posted on 20 December 2023
My GP proactively contacted me to follow up on an area of concern she identified on an x-ray after an emergency hospital admission. After treatment, the issue was resolved. Typical of the thoroughness, professionalism, and efficiency of both her and all of the Newbury Street Practice team that I have experienced since joining a year ago. Thank you all.

Called surgery in morning and all appointments had gone so triaged through 111. Surgery called me within 1/2 hour asking to attend in person that afternoon. Saw a Physician Assistant who was calm, efficient, thorough and friendly. Allowed me plenty of time to ask any questions and explained her proposed plan of action. Within 24 hours I had been ems-rayed and within 8 days had a CT scan. Really impressive service.

Review titled Rapid response
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Wilfrid Fowler - Posted on 15 December 2023
I called for an appointment at 8.35. The callback came at 10 am and after a discussion with a doctor the receptionist referred me to 111. That took less than 15 minutes and I was told I would receive a call back in six hours. My doctor called me at 14.15 and saw me at 14.30.

Review titled Can't book appointments except if you call on the day
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 05 December 2023
This practice only takes same day bookings. This does not work for those of us with full time jobs. We can't call at 8:30 am while driving to work with the hopes they will have an appointment that day to then have to drive and hour and a half round trip to get to the appointment. They will not book appointments into the future. I even tried to book an appointment while in the office to get my hand seen because it was rather painful. Not immediate, just anytime in the next eight weeks. Nope. Wouldn't even schedule an appointment. My wife tried to get seen twice for a skin issue. Would only give her a phone appointment. How do you treat a condition that needs to be visually inspected over the phone? I thought I had a bad GP practice before, but this one makes me happy I have private healthcare in my new job and makes me start to think the NHS is a bad idea for GP's. This practice is absolutely the worst. The receptionist is just nasty most of the time.

Dear Patient, thank you for your review. We are sorry you have had to write this however we are glad you have given us the opportunity to respond. On this note please could I ask you to contact me? I would like to investigate your experience and your wifes. However I would need some further details to be able to do that. If you could call the surgery and ask to speak to Gail Wells or email myself on gail.wells@nhs.net I really would like to improve this for you. I work 8-4.30 Mon + Weds-Fri

I needed a dressing changed at very short notice on a Friday afternoon and the reception team were extremely helpful in getting me seen as soon as possible! The nursing team who did my dressing change were so lovely and kind and I’m so very grateful for the help they provided me at such short notice!

Review titled Can things get any worse
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Robert N Thomas - Posted on 30 August 2023
I have not seen my gp since march 2020 but have been able to speak to my gp by telephone. Now I am finding it difficult to even get a call back from a gp. I am a diabetic on a new treatment which has now become unavailble in the uk. Trying to contact my gp to advise what medication I should turn to has become imposible. I am now 3 days from running out of my diabetic medication which I have explained to the receptionist but still not able to get to speak to a gp for advice on what I should do. I do not blame the gp's or the receptionists but the situation is awful. I will now need to go for a few days without medication even if I could speak to someone tomorrow but I am not very hopeful. When will this situation end?

Dear Mr Thomas thank you for your feedback. Your GP was on leave and you were offered an appointment with a locum GP who unfortunately was delayed due to air traffic problems nationally so we were short of a GP. You should have a call today if you haven't already. We apologise however sometimes situations are out of our control and we do try our best to get them sorted. I hope your medication is now sorted out for you kind regards Gail Wells IT Lead

Review titled Excellent customer service from a staff member
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 02 August 2023
I have remained anonymous simply for work purposes. I would like to thank and acknowledge the young man who took my phone call this morning. Not only was he extremely polite, but he was sympathetic, did not rush my somewhat lengthy explanation, professional and proactive in solving my problem. I was not met with the common response of no appointments today, you will just have to phone again at 8.30am tomorrow. The young man sensed my anxiousness for a problem that has gone on for some time and went out of his way to help. I appreciate that Newbury Street practice has had criticism levelled against it just recently and so I would like to acknowledge good service when it is received. I have been with the practice for 53 years and have witnessed many changes. I hope some, not all, other members of staff can learn from this young man's telephone manner. Well done and a huge thank you for your assistance. Just as the phone message states that your staff will not tolerate bad language or abuse, it follows that patients should also be treated with dignity and respect. Thank you again, your family should be very proud.

Dear Patient thank you so much for your comments and support. I will make sure this is passed onto the team and inparticular the individual concerned. We do appreciate it when patients acknowledge the care and assistance they have received. It can be a stressful position but it makes it worthwhile when we get comments like this, thank you once again Gail Wells IT Lead Newbury Street Practice

Review titled Timely and efficient
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Angela Highton - Posted on 06 July 2023
I recently had a telephone consultation with the respiratory team at one of the Oxford hospitals where the Doctor requested that I continue the course of antibiotics I had been taking for a further week and that she would send an electronic letter asking the surgery to issue a prescription this was at 12.30 following the consultation I telephoned the Pharmacy at the surgery to request that they “look out” for said electronic letter, the member of the Pharmacy team was polite and helpful in her response to my request and informed me that she would issue a script and present it to my g.p to be signed, I informed her I would be attending the surgery for an appointment at 16.10 and I would enquire at reception about the progress of the script on arriving at the surgery I spoke to the receptionist who was able to access the script and took it to the g.p to sign, less than 4 hours after my consultation with the Hospital doctor I had the signed prescription In my hand enabling me to obtain the antibiotic and not brake the continuity of the course of medication.
