  1. Review titled Long waiting times

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 07 March 2024

30 minutes after my appointment time, I got to see a GP. However, the hour waiting for the prescription to be pinged to the onsite pharmacy was very annoying. Completely wasted my afternoon. The system is not working, maybe we should go back to printing out prescriptions thus giving the power back to the patient to choose which pharmacy to use. I was not impressed.

Dear Patient, We are very sorry to hear that you were not impressed with your experience. Patients do have the ability to receive printed prescriptions, rather than use the EPS system. The next time you require a prescription please indicate that you would rather receive a printed prescription. If you wish to discuss this in more detail, please do not hesitate to contact us via our surgery email address, hwicb.stjohnshousesurgery@nhs.net. 3. Review titled Caring and friendly service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by JB - Posted on 24 March 2024

I attended the surgery for a blood test with a nurse practitioner on a Friday morning. Parking and access very easy. The surgery 2as clean calm and peaceful. Check in for my appointment quick and easy. There is a choice of on screen or in person at the reception desk. I was seen on time by a friendly caring nurse who put me at ease. I have a moderate bleeding disorder so injections can be a problem, but this was all dealt with with confidence and support. I was very satisfied with the service today. Thank you.

  4. Review titled Indifferent

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Julie Smith - Posted on 13 March 2024

Had a groin injury whilst gardening in 2022 - had an xray which showed some arthritis and narrowing of joint area. Was told over the phone that it was not causing the extreme pain. When asked what to do next they didn't know!! I self referred to physio in Aug 2022, who then lost the notes!! Father had fall in hospital and was life ending. Mother not well either, also hospitalised. Called GP as was under extreme stress and in pain, who couldn't have cared less!! Muddled through, until Father died, 2023. Couldn't get an appointment with gp so contacted physio again. Had a number of appt, but couldn't do exercises because of pain. Was referred by physio to Advanced Physio. Took From Oct 23 to end of Jan 24 for appt to come through. Meanwhile could not get gp support for painkillers. Physio also wrote to gp but to no avail!!. Advanced physio sent for up to date xray which was carried out 15th Feb 2024. Finally got diagnosis 13 March 2024 - advanced arthritis of the hip requiring hip replacement & need to referred to a Consultant. Between Oct 23 and March 24 asked many time to see gp, but to no avail. The Triage team do not read the request details and are indifferent to what they are being told. Repeatedly referred to the Surgery Pharmacist only. Rang in desperation, finally getting someone to answer the call, as usually 40 in a queue! Begged to speak to a gp, got a call back from receptionist with an appt with the Advanced Clinical Practitioner. Saw the A C P who was supposed to make a follow up call, but never did so. Ran out of useless medication by this time, and had to make an online request. |No prescription was written only another appt with pharmacist for 2 weeks later, so had to ring reception to get an emergency appointment. Still heard nothing from A C P so cannot discuss medication or any possible support, and no chance of speaking with a gp. Have had to pay and see the advice of a Private Physiotherapist to get some sort of sensible advice, and to speak with someone who is not indifferent, because the general attitude is that the N H S is overrun, so you must be joking to expect any sort of quality treatment!. It is non-treatment, and misleading, and obstructive to getting the correct information to move forward, by which time is it too late, and you may as well not bother.

  5. Review titled Got an appointment no problem at all.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 16 December 2023

I really don’t understand why St John’s house gets so much bad press on local social media etc. The online patient triage service is fantastic, you write a quick summary of the problem. They call you within a few hours and do what is needed to get you sorted. I was offered a face to face appointment that morning. Seen as soon as I checked into the surgery. The doctor was very kind, professional, and clear in his explanation of my problem. Can’t fault the service today and I have found similar on previous visits for myself and my son.

Medical staff are good but the stand out service of this practice is the front line staff who will always go out of their way to address any questions you have . They are a major asset for the practice

  7. Review titled Bad receptionists

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 04 December 2023

I got told i had been booked an appointment with a female doctor, turned up for my appointment only to find out it was with a.male doctor. I had specifically said that i needed to see a female, then told that the person who i was supposed to be seeing was not in until friday. Absolute joke, most of the receptionists think they have a degree in medicine, asking you all kinds of questions, also i can only decribe as teenagers answering the phones and booking appoinments, and then these said youngsters making the mistakes and booking the wrong appoinments with the wrong people. St johns house medical need to get this sorted, its absolutly rediculous.

  9. Review titled Excellent practitioner

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Yvonne Smit - Posted on 02 December 2023

I am 73 and experiencing hair thinning. This is making me feel extremely unhappy. I contacted the practice to explain my problem and was contacted by a very kind and helpful lady who I think is an Advanced Nurse Practitioner. I explained my predicament in detail and she came back to me and was very understanding of my plight. She said she would get me an appointment with a Dermatologist. I then received a letter from Dermatology that wasn’t very positive. The lady contacted me again to see if I had heard from them. I said I had but it didn’t seem like they would see me. She said she would contact them again sending photos and my desire to see someone. I was delighted and thanked her very much. She came back to me on Friday just gone to say they wouldn’t see me but suggested some blood tests which I have already had. Other than that - nothing! I can’t believe that I would just be fobbed off like that when this condition is affecting me in a lot of ways. I do realise that not too much can be done but there are still things that can be done and I believe a consultant can prescribe medication too, which is what I want. I was using 2% Minodoxidil but on the box it says it is not to be used by anyone over the age of 60 or 65. Perhaps someone could suggest a meal plan and a way of life that could change the situation. I’d just like very much to be able to talk to someone who knows about hair.

  10. Review titled Do they have a reception?

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 20 November 2023

I genuinely don't understand, I tried to call the GP surgery and there was an automated reply saying that I could be put in the queue to be automatically called back when I was the next person in the queue to talk to the receptionist. That was 2 hours ago. Everything on their website says that you can contact them by phone and that their hours are until 6.30pm. But that's an insane amount of time to wait on hold to try and speak to someone. I'm genuinely wondering if they have reduced receptionist hours and just don't tell anyone! If so, why isn't their phone on some kind of out of office message?
