Review titled Telephone appointment
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Ian Smith - Posted on 09 May 2024
Telephone appointment to discuss blood test results. Doctor was very helpful in explaining what the results meant and what options were open to me. She put my mind at rest on the results and had a very friendly demeanour.

Review titled Unable to cancel appointment
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 23 May 2024
I had an appointment that I could not make. The rule imposed by Broadway is that appointments must be cancelled at least one hour beforehand. However, I found it impossible to get through on the phone: my call was still in queue position 3 after 20 minutes on hold. When I hung up and dialled-in again, I had dropped to position 5 in the queue, where I stayed for another 20 minutes. The clinic is trying to move patients onto an online system, but this requires an Id process requiring you to come into their clinic. Additionally, I was in a situation (stuck in traffic) where this would not be possible to use. Phone service at this practice is generally poor: it originally took me dialling in a second time to book this appointment, after my first call was fobbed-off by a clearly untrained receptionist, who told me there were no non-urgent appointments available (untrue) and that, despite not having enrolled in their online service, told me I could book online (also untrue).

Thank you for your review. I am sorry that although trying you were unable to cancel and save an appointment I do appreciate that. We are attempting once more to address our telephony system. We do have online appointments , but they do tend to be snapped up almost immediately. It does become difficult answering to anonymous writers. regards, practice manager

This was a short call regarding medication, but was conducted in the usual courteous and respectful manner.

I was phoned at the allotted time and requested the drugs I needed and the doctor reassured me that the prescription would be with the chemist straight away. She also discussed fully another drug I needed. Thank you

Review titled Not good practice
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Michael Walsh - Posted on 19 May 2024
Last Autum I eventually had an appointment by phone! I never received G.P. Phone call. Rang again, I rang again to arrange another appointment, the same thing happened I eventually went to the surgery I was given a very quick ( no eye to eye contact apology) Then I asked for the results of my scan The receptionist proceeded to verbally tell me my results in front of a queue of patients Never did get to speak with a doctor I felt humiliated I never ring surgery now I just go straight to 111 to at least get a phone appointment If I’m lucky I get the call The latest experience was so long winded I rang 111 gave symptoms twice to two different I was informed they have sent a emergency prescription to local chemist I was asked to ring them They informed me they don’t do what 111 asked them to do Some new policy for antibiotics So they told me to go Byron my G P That took a lot of phone calls I eventually got through But was told will receive a doctors call the next day Then I received a Text from reception to say to attend surgery on that day That was impossible for MMP that day I phoned again Then later that day GP phoned Sent prescription to chemist and I received antibiotics So took 2 Days to sort out Then I whilst GP was on phone I explained how my monthly meds were incorrect as I only received half of my meds for my heart decease Since then to this day I haven’t heard a thing. My partner left the surgery 2 years ago as when he needed emotional support few to family deaths His first appointment with bereavement counsellor she didn’t even make his appointment Later was sorted out It made him of course worse But had a few phone calls that seemed to help Last rant Last year I had an appointment with Dr whyatt I waited 1Hour 20 minutes I noticed she was asked to move her car as there was building work going on She left and didn’t come back, by that time I couldn’t wait any longer and left So all in all especially with heart decease not happy with the help As muss I appreciate the work Go/ Surgery staff do,surely when you get to the point of dreading to phone your local G P for help/ advice ( I’m a patient person) then there’s something wrong. Thank-you for the opportunity to be listened to.

Thank you for your feedback Mr Gilkes. We are seeing the same number of face to face as pre-covid, with additional telephone consultations requested as 'the norm ' now as well making our GP sessions an average of one hour longer each session. This could be the reason we cannot offer quicker appointment times. Regards, practice manager

Review titled As always negative experience.

Been coming for years to Broadway Surgery and the reception team are consistently unwelcoming and unhelpful. There is one exception the lady with silver glasses . I can’t complain about the doctors although I have never seen the same doctor twice. I was sitting in reception and an elderly gentleman came out and went to receptionist to book another appointment . She was so rude and spoke to him like he was stupid. Informing him to call at 8 in the morning to rebook. As it was not an emergency no appointment can be booked longer than 2 weeks ahead. This is so the surgery can say that patients do not wait longer than 2 weeks for an appointment. I don’t know why the can’t be kind and understanding but they are so aggressive. They really should not be in a position where they have to deal with people. No sense of customer service , often you can be standing there for a good few minutes and they don’t welcome you and don’t even lift their head up to acknowledge you are there. I hate talking to them as they ask personal questions and then they decide if it’s an emergency or not. Is triaging part of their remit? I came out of surgery once and doctor told me to rebook within 2 weeks and the refused to book it as the doctor had not indicated on my record. I said can you go and ask she refused told me to call at 8 am to rebook.

Thank you but as this is anonymous I am afraid it is very difficult to answer your comments on behalf of other patients. If you wish to contact the surgery to make an appointment to see me I would be happy to address. Regards, practice manager

Review titled Very Bad Practice
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Dini - Posted on 03 May 2024
I was booked to see an inhouse Physiotherapist but because I was late for just 9 minutes, I was sent away. Had I arrived on time or even before time I would have waited for at least 20mins or more. This does not make sense. Does it? Just to get to see my GP, it took me several months even though I have tried my best many many times in the mornings. A patient like myself with some serious conditions should be prioritised. But I wonder how do they assess. Since my precious GP has left or retired from this practice I have never been seen by anyone in this practice. It is sad and horrible.

Thank you for your comments. May I please address your concerns. Physio appointments do not run late as there is a gap in between for catch up if patients need to redress etc., I am sorry to say arriving 9 minutes late is actually almost the whole appointment time, whereby this delay if you had been accepted by the physio would have had a knock on affect for the rest of the appointments for all patients. Clinicians make the decision not the reception team if a patient is late they inform the clinician of the arrival and are instructed on what the clinician has decided. We have approx a minimum 30 available appointments per morning along with options of pre booking, eConsult, online, priority booking for certain cohorts of patients, 111, pharmacy and we can book out of hours appointment on the day for acute need. Please let me know if you wish to discuss further. Practice manager

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry your experience was not to your satisfaction. May I suggest in future you ask for the doctor of your choice? This is often the reason doctors have a wait time. Regards, practice manager
