  1. Review titled Praise where praise is due

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by L McNaughton - Posted on 23 August 2023

My colleague wasn't feeling great so we called 111. The call handler was methodical, kind and patient. She went through all the different questions and answered our concerns. An emergency ambulance was called and it arrived within 5-10 minutes. The paramedics were brilliant. They kept my colleague calm and relaxed, while gathering information, before taking him to the ambulance to carry out checks. He was taken to The Pru at Farnborough, where the two paramedics wouldn't leave him until he was attended to. A big thank you to two lovely gents from Bromley Ambulance, you really helped keep my colleague calm in a stressful time, we are extremely grateful. Also, many thanks to the lady on the 111 service. This is the second time I have used the NHS services in the last two weeks and this was another 5 Star Service.

  2. Review titled Amazing Ambulance team

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Iqbal - Posted on 17 July 2023

We had an amazing experience with the ambulance team that responded to breathing difficulties with my son. My son is autistic and they handled everything so well. They were so friendly and so calm. Which helped to put us at ease as we were so concerned with our son's breathing issues. They explained that they would give him some steroids which should open the airways. Our son also needed to be taken in but due to his autism, he is frightened of sirens. The team handled this in a great way by only switching on the lights and got us to hospital very quickly. They also had a student with them and she was great as well. This also fills me with great confidence on the future of the ambulance service.

  4. Review titled Efficient practice and great support

Rated 5 stars out of 5

In June 2023, I had an accident. I was hit by a bicycle at the pedestrian crossing and I needed the NHS emergency treatment. I want to thank from my heart a paramedic that arrived at the spot in a very short time, for his careful treatment, for staying as long as it was required to make sure I am well enough to be able to go back home and for his moral support. I am endlessly thankful. God bless him. God bless NHS (London Ambulance Service NHS Trust). Thank you!

  5. Review titled In felt listened to completely for the first time

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Paul biu - Posted on 10 June 2023

The paramedics that treated me got me to the help that I needed in a very quick time and were able to give me reassurance and make sure I stayed alert during the journey which helped me be able to start the process of treatment in a better position than I would have been without them. I give them all the praise and I believe they should get a commendation for the work that they did.

  6. Review titled Long wait, but paramedics very good

Rated 2 stars out of 5

I rang 111 for advice at 4am after experiencing severe chest pains radiating to my back. The call handler said an ambulance would be sent based on my symptoms. Then I had a call back to say they were very busy and to get a taxi (I live alone). I felt too ill to even move, so he told me he would put me on the waiting list for an ambulance. One arrived over 4 hours later.

  7. Review titled Excellent and first class and caring service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

On the 12 th June 2023 around 8 am my mother was admitted to hospital. I am her full time caregiver and I called the ambulance. The whole experience was made easier with such lovely and caring staff. The ambulance staff Dom, Andrew, Sadie. They made my mother and I feel so blessed to have such a reassuring and supportive journey to the hospital. Don even checked up on my mother while we were waiting in the accident and emergency area. My mother said he looked like a film star and he put a smile on her face , which was so heartwarming. Such a kind young man. She stayed for four days in the Charing Cross hospital. From the emergency staff, doctors and nurses I can only praise their profession care and expertise. I felt my mother was in safe and caring hands all the way through her stay. My mother is recovering and it’s thanks to her exceptional care from all the kind staff at Charing Cross. My mother and myself are truly grateful for your kindness and care. Wishing you the best and a Big Thank You for all your excellent and hard work.

  9. Review titled Being held by a final tether

Rated 3 stars out of 5

I am a healthcare professional, and I understand the feeling of being under pressure, it’s horrible! But it shouldn’t cloud our judgement to deliver care and we should try to see past it when giving care. My friends husband was having a fit for the first time ever in his sleep, as a normal reaction she called 999 first. They refused to send out an ambulance. She called me, while she was on the phone, I called the ambulance. The lady I had on the other end of the line was very abrupt. Wasn’t letting me explain anything and simply wanted a yes or no answer. For example she asked ‘is the patient conscious’ I said ‘ semi-conscious’. She said ‘conscious or not conscious’ so I went with ‘not conscious’ although he was semi conscious. He was opening his eyes but not responding to any verbal cue’s. She then kept being abrupt until I mentioned I was a pharmacist and then her manner changed. Firstly, I am disappointed that in the first instance when my friend called for the ambulance, a first time seizure was not taken to be serious enough to warrant an ambulance, yet I know from my training that it is. Then I was disappointed that the call operator I got wouldn’t listen to my explanation and was being abrupt. I get it, it is a Friday night, and I was probably your 1000th phone call of the night. Not everyone would have a clinical background to be able to articulate a 999 call in a ‘yes or no’ format. We need to allow for all kinds of ways of communicating, where possible, to be able to deliver the best care that we can. And again, I know what it feels like to be holding myself together by the last thread, however this is why, we need to ensure, especially when dealing with other people and people’s lives, that we are ok to be able to help them. Irrespective of her behaviour on the call, I do appreciate that she managed to get an ambulance to my friend and her husband to get him the help he needed. But I truly hope she can read this review and try better to understand the needs of the person on the other end of a 999 call. And for the operator that didn’t deem it necessary for a first time seizure to not warrant an ambulance, I hope there is some re-training in place to allow for this, especially when the person who is calling might not know how important it is for that patient to get help as soon as possible!
