I attended Ward 20 the day ward for my surgery. I can't thank everyone connected with my stay enough for the excellent care I received from the Nursing and Theatre Staff, including excellent treatment I received with my recovery. Many Thanks to you all.

Spent 5 days as an inpatient , 3 on ward 9 and 2 on ward 19. Clinical staff were excellent ,support workers were very attentive and efficient and the housekeeping/ catering staff were the ' icing on the cake' ,definitely the unsung heroes of a very well run team .

  4. Review titled Waiting 6 hours for.blood results

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 09 January 2024

I was told by my GPS to go to A and E for EEG for chest pain and bloods waiting 6 hours now has the tests But no results absolutely full no one pushes themselves . 3 Ambulance drivers stood chatting spent more time walking up and down chatting .No wonder the NHS is struggling so much for a four hour wait rule. So glad I wasn't in pain like all the others .

  5. Review titled Childrens ward

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 03 January 2024

After spending time on the Children's Ward with my child over Christmas I found the department inconsistent. Requests not actioned in a reasonable time frame. Depending on staff member depended on care and communication received, some introduced themselves quickly at shift change others took hours. Some staffs willingness to watch child for a short period was lacking, even though we know there is no obligation to stay with child like we did 24h day. Staff seam to procrastinate, say they'll return and never did. I changed bed during stay, no provision of a bowl to make a washing solution to clean child, not sure if not available or request ignored. On plus side got a cuppa in the morning, cleaning staff chatty and the place is very clean. Whilst some issues caused by overstretched staff, I am sure this scenario is milked and some staff need a talking to .... Previous stay in Neonatal for several weeks was far superior to Children's Ward sadly.

  6. Review titled I knew I was in good hands

by tjaynee - Posted on 28 November 2023

I had a call asking me to go in for an urgent jaw x-ray. I have osteoporosis with multiple fractures of my vertebrae and a rib. I had visited another hospital previously for a chest x-ray which traumatised me. I also suffer agoraphobia, CPTSD and autism alongside of physical issues too. I was dreading having to go for another x-ray after my earlier treatment at the other hospital where I was treated badly. When we arrived at Airedale we found a parking spot straight away, which doesn't happen at other hospitals so was pretty happy. The only thing I would have changed is having car spaces for us disabled people without blue badges nearer to the entrance. I don't have a blue badge even with a fractured spine and other conditions but I struggle to walk more than a few minutes and even that is very painful. We got inside and someone came up and asked us if we needed help. We said I had an appointment at radiology. They told us the way with clear instructions. We found our way to the waiting room very quickly and easily. There was no one else in the waiting area so we thought we had made a mistake, but within a couple of minutes a nurse called my name so obviously we were in the correct place. She asked me very kindly to follow her. I went into the room and she explained what I needed to do in a pleasant friendly manner. She explained what the machine would do and how long precisely it would take. I think it was 16.2 seconds. She thanked me for standing still and I thanked her. She was one of the good nurses we all need when we feel vulnerable and she did her job professionally but with such a kind, caring way. Why aren't all nurses and NHS people like she was? She instantly made me feel safe and at ease and my severe anxiety from being out of my house left me. I knew I was in good hands. I really wish she could be informed about how she was amazing and she made such a massive difference to my anxiety. I also have CPTSD and autism but the ways she talked me through it all without any prompting from myself prevented me needing to tell her my story. I wish so much that health professionals were all cut from the same cloth as this lovely kind lady and I shall never forget the way she helped me without her needing to know my health story. Thank you so much

  7. Review titled Better care and service than a hotel!

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Jo jones - Posted on 20 November 2023

After a stroke last week and being in And E for over 24 hours (I had my own room right next to nurses station) I can saying had the best care and attention. I didn't feel like I was in A and E and the atmosphere was relaxed and extremely friendly yet professional. Then up to the stroke rehab on ward 16. I really wish I could name individuals but sadly I can't. However, my care could not have been better and the service from being given an eye mask in A and E for bright lights to Socks from physio as my slippers were unsafe, you wouldn't get this care in a hotel ! Airedale seems to have some bad reputation and I can honestly say I don't understand why. Everyone, from the consultant, to the Housekeeping, stroke rehab team and nurses, Health care s and catering have been friendly, sympathetic, caring and patient. A very busy ward, often short staffed, but that didn't affect my care one bit. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to you all.

  8. Review titled Sad Audiology Has Come To This

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 27 November 2023

I can't find Audiology on the list of departments so have to do this via ENT title. Why is Audiology not listed? I give 5 out of 10 for my hearing test today. Receptionist was lovely friendly and very helpful and that is the best I can say about todays experience. Audiology used to be one of the best organised run departments and sad to see it slipping away.

  9. Review titled Do their best

Rated 5 stars out of 5

My mum was admitted to ED this week following a fall at home.. the department was very busy. My mum was placed down the red side but unfortunately couldn’t have a room because there weren’t any free as there were patients in there requiring more care. My mum needed toilet but was unable to walk there due to the injuries she sustained following fall.. the nurses put a curtain at the side of her bed, however people who were walking past on the other side of the nurses station were able to see what was happening.. I find this quite upsetting and degrading. Upsetting for my mum and upsetting for the staff who are expected to do this, privacy and dignity is not respected when the department is busy.. again I don’t blame to staff they are doing their best in the given situations they are up-against. If patients are going to continue to be nurses in corridors then it’s up to the organisation to ensure that there is the equipment at hand to ensure that patients dignity and privacy are respected and patients are safe.
