Review titled Excellent practice
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Debra Lowry - Posted on 08 April 2023
We had arrived in Malham on a weekend break, I had excruciating pain in my foot, so my husband took me to a&e. The staff were so helpful, I was initially seen within 10 minutes. I was told I needed an X-ray and some bloods taken to determine what was wrong. I would have to wait an hour and a half for the results, so the nurse allowed us to go and get something to eat, as we hadn’t eaten all day, then come back for the results. We went back a bit later and she had my diagnosis and the tablets all ready . I’d really like to thank the staff for their kindness and understanding.

Review titled Fantastic service
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Paula Howe - Posted on 16 April 2023
From my first meeting (14/4/23 12 ish) with the friendly reception staff, the quick triage of my needs and despatch to the trauma/minor injuries dept where I was promptly seen and assessed (sorry I was in pain and don’t remember all names) by a lovely sister, sent to x ray, again the radiographer was kind and took the time to ensure I was as comfortable as possible, then back to the minor injuries dept where a fabulous man explained the injury, sorted a leg brace, crutches (another friendly face) helped with the walking with crutches - I seemed to struggle with this!) and my medication. He was gentle, kind and very thorough but with humour and personality. They were very busy but still took time to reassure, explain and be very patient with me. I was in and out within 2 hours and they made the whole experience bearable. People are quick to moan but my limited experiences with our wonderful NHS have all been positive. Thank you

Review titled Five Star Service
Rated 5 stars out of 5

Five Star Service Recently discharged after spending five days on ward 2. My experience of pre and post operative care was excellent. I have nothing but praise and gratitude for the hospital, it's staff and the departments that supported me through an unexpected period of illness. I must also give a special thank you to the fantastic Colorectal surgical team who cared for me every step of the way. Thank you Airedale, much appreciated.

Review titled Communications with next of kin or neighbours
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 08 April 2023
My 85 year old brother, who lives alone and has Parkinson's, was admitted to A&E by ambulance late on 5.4.2023, suffering from confusion, listlessness, etc. because of not taking his medication. I am his next-of-kin and live in Kent. When the ambulance came, my brother's neighbour was told he would be admitted to a ward on Thursday (6/4), assessed and returned home probably on Monday 10th with a care package. However, the neighbour saw hospital transport bring him home the next morning (6/4) with no message about carers coming. He was still confused. Meantime in Kent I had missed 2 'phone calls from the hospital. So, I 'phoned the hospital but all I got was a recorded message saying I had missed a call and the caller would ring me back. This was presumably to inform me about my brother's discharge and care arrangements. I rang again, but could not get beyond the recorded message. My reason for contacting you is to point this out. Did the nurse or administrator who made the call know that I wouldn't be able to return it? There was nothing I could do and no-one rang me back. Technology put me in a situation I couldn't unblock and maybe your system needs to be reviewed? (I am pleased to say that carers did arrive later in the day, but it would have been less stressful had we known this.)

Dear Relative Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We are sorry that you and your brother have had this experience and for the distress that was caused by the breakdown in communication. We hope that your brother is now feeling better and settled back at home. The telephone number you refer to is an automated number that is visible on all our calls regardless of what department is ringing you, it's purpose is to indicate you are receiving a call from the hospital in order to try and differentiate it from a cold caller. If you would like to discuss your experience with us please do not hesitate to contact our Patient Advice and Complaints team on 01535 294019 or anhsft.patientadvice@nhs.net Janine Ashton, Patient Experience Officer

Review titled Terrible A&E
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 18 March 2023
On the advice of 111 we took our 3 month old baby boy in to be assessed as we had concerns over the lack ofMilk he was taking & the fact he had been screaming in pain for several hours. We understand completely that the A&E department have to prioritise the sickest patients, however we feel it is unacceptable to leave us waiting for over 6 hours just to tell us he can’t be seen & to arrange a doctors appointment later that morning. The Triage nurse also made us feel like we shouldn’t have even been there, just because of the fact he had finally fallen asleep. Baby’s do sleep eventually. A 3 month old baby should be seen, no matter how long the waiting time. Not just shoved to the back of the queue.

Review titled Audiology used to be so good!!
Rated 2 stars out of 5

Audiology is not listed so had to click on ENT. But its about Audiology dept which used to be so good and efficient. Sadly now most unhelpful and quite rude. Happy to leave you unable to hear for nearly 3 months! Yet my hearing aids are sat there waiting for me. Social isolation til the end of March!

Review titled Outstanding Care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Sarah and Alan - Posted on 09 March 2023
This is for the Ambulance crew who came and A&E staff, as there was nowhere to recognise them as well. From the Paramedics responding to a 999 call, to admission to the A&E department, throughout the whole process, it was as efficient and thorough as you would expect any hospital to be, what made the experience outstanding, is not just the nursing care and Dr assessment, but the friendliness of Dr and Nurses at all levels, a nothing is too much trouble attitude, delivered with a care and warmth we often think is lost in the world. Well done and thank you to all we encountered on that visit.

Review titled excellent experience
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Patricia Wadsworth - Posted on 29 March 2023
I attended the hospital yesterday for an ultrasound and the whole experience was first class. On entering the premises i was asked by one of the guides where I needed to be and the gentleman took me to a corridor and explained exactly where I needed to go. The staff at the radiology department were friendly and I was soon asked to go into the appropriate cubicle by very friendly people who undertook the procedure. There was no waiting and in fact, I was actually seen before my alloted time. Full marks Airedale.
