Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Adan Moalim Abdi - Posted on 14 March 2023

My son who is 17 year old type 1 diabetic was sent home after planned surgery was cancelled following knee injury. The ward (beech ward) nurse informed him he can go home , we picked him up with no discharge summary provided as the doctor said he is busy in A&E.Plan was read to us from the syste. Repeat scan to check for nerve damages. He was discharge Friday night 10th.We were told scan department will call.Today is Tuesday and we are still waiting. The delay will impact on his mobility / collage attendance. He need scan as soon as possible and surgery if needs be.

Dear reviewer, we are very sorry to read that you have been waiting in pain for 8 hours in our emergency department. We do unfortunately continue to see very high numbers of patients who are seen in order of priority, but we would recommend speaking to our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) about this further. PALS can be contacted by email at bcfpals@nhs.net or telephone on 0208 216 4924. Again, we're very sorry to read of your poor experience, which is certainly not what we would wish for our patients. 3. Review titled Cancelled

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 15 March 2023

After breathing problems my GP sent me for XRay and then an appointment at Barnet. The appointment was fineness for late summer but was cancelled 3 weeks later. No new appointment no reason just cancelled. This shows a lack of care towards the client and poor back room management to the level of incompetents. The poor communication between support services and the front line is a NHS characteristic

  5. Review titled Shocking way to treat people with covid

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 06 March 2023

I had been ill in bed for two days with covid. I had a terrible pain in my chest that went up into my neck and jaw. I phoned 111 and a ambulance was called by them. The ambulance gave me a ecg which came back irregular. I was told that I need to go to a&e. They offered to take me but I thought there time would be best spent seeing other people so I promised to make my own way there. This was at 8pm. When I got to a&e I told them I had covid. I was then asked to wait outside in the cold. I asked how long the wait would be they said 5 hours approx. I waited for 1 hour in which I started to feel very unwell again so I stood in the foyer. I was asked to move back outside. I said that I would not and I needed a side room or somewhere to sit. The receptionist came out and told me if I didn't go stand outside then I would need to discharge myself. So I did! I then rang 111 and was told a doctor would phone me back within 6 hours they rang me at 4am which was 15 hours after I had rang them. I am still unsure of my ecg and chest pain cause.

Dear reviewer, we're very sorry to read that you were asked to wait outside the emergency department, due to being covid positive. We note that you stepped inside after an hour of waiting, flagged to staff that you were feeling very unwell and that you were asked to move back outside or you would need to discharge yourself, and felt therefore that you had no choice but to do so. We have flagged this to management who have assured us they are discussing better alternatives for patients who need to isolate whilst waiting, when the department is busy. If you would like to discuss this further, we recommend speaking to our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) if you haven't already done so. PALS can be contacted by email at bcfpals@nhs.net or telephone on 0208 216 4924. Again, we're very sorry to read of your poor experience, which is certainly not what we would expect or wish for our patients. Kind regards, the patient experience team.

I went there and I waited 22 hours for a test they saw something is really bad and they kept me but they didn’t say anything or do anything and they also got a old man in my room while I was waiting which was really uncomfortable as a woman the doctors didn’t do anything apart from trying to keep me in the hospital Very bad experience due to the fact they didn’t help me I have to go to another country to resolve my medical conditions I am really upset and disappointed because due to the fact that they didn’t help my condition got way way worse I do not recommend this hospital as they don’t care about there patients

  7. Review titled Above & beyond in A&E !

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Lisa Kemp - Posted on 04 March 2023

My daughter has complex medical needs & under territory care consultants/teams. This is our local hospital & we reluctantly were sent in by our amazing g.p. Sitting & waiting exacerbates her already chronic health. Every member of staff we came into contact with went above & beyond to help, support & really listen to her. I was blown away with the level of care & kindness shown to her. She has spent the last 10 years in & out of hospital. Now suffers with PTSD because of it. This was such a positive experience I can’t thank the staff enough for everything they did. This is the 2nd really positive experience we have had at Barnet a&e. We really appreciate all the hard work from the staff especially at present when they are so overworked & so underpaid!!!!!

  8. Review titled Excellent professional care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Richard Giordano - Posted on 06 March 2023

I came to A&E on 5 March with chest pains. The care I received from everyone was excellent--from the people taking my blood pressure to the phlebotomists. They were friendly, kind, and efficient. I was especially impressed with the A&E doctor. Although he was working flat out all day, he listened carefully, was exceptionally professional in examining me, and even called me back from the waiting room to explain that it was handover time and I would be seen by another doctor once my blood tests were received. This was an thoughtful gesture. I'm an senior lecturer who teaches nurses, doctors, physios, etc., and he displayed everything you would want from a clinician--respect, professionalism, care and empathy. They followed NICE guidelines virtually to a letter which is very encouraging. Happily, I checked out without any cardiac problems. We are lucky to have this service available to us in Barnet.

The staff were lovely and the process was seamless. Though we had to wait a bit to see a Doctor, it was understandable. Well done to the Paediatric team!

  10. Review titled Shocking A&E care for a pregnant woman with covid !

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 07 March 2023

On saturday 4th March, I was advised by a paramedic on 111 to go to Barnet utc and had booked me in an appointment as I was experiencing shortness of breathe, a tight chest and rib pain, I am 11 weeks pregnant and was also a positive covid patient. When I arrived at utc I was told that they were unable to treat me as I had covid and to go round to a&e. Once at a&e I signed myself in and was told to wait outside as I had covid. I was stood waiting outside for 4 hours, with no seat given to me, no care or anything for 4 hours! It was freezing cold, I felt extremely ill and pregnant. To think after all these years of covid the hospital would be prepared for covid patients. It was absolutely outrageous. I was seen by the nurse within the first 5 minutes of me being there and he was extremely helpful. He said i needed some blood tests and an ecg. I then had to wait 2 hours for a blood test and ecg again outside in the cold and at this point it had started raining. After my blood and ecg was completed I was told i’ll be second in line, where i waited another hour for the doctor to see me, only for him to send me to get an x-ray and then had to wait another hour for the a&e doctor again, The a&e doctor then asked me why I had come in and said I only had covid and I should have stayed at home. No treatment was given to me, he came outside to tell me that everything was okay and for future not to come if I have covid. My chest wasn’t listened to, my symptoms weren’t listened to, I was dealt with outside with no change of being able to even ask the doctor if my baby was going to be okay! The treatment i was given that day was disgusting and have now moved all my maternal appointments to a different hospital. If i’m allowed to go into work with covid and you no longer require to isolate anymore then why are hospitals not doing something to treat patients who are severely suffering with covid symptoms!

Dear reviewer, we're very sorry to read that you were asked to wait outside our emergency department due to having Covid, whilst also pregnant. We also note that after a long wait and various tests, that you were told you should have stayed at home and that you didn't feel able to ask questions about your baby's wellbeing. We're also sorry that this has resulted in your transferring your antenatal care to another hospital. Please be assured that we have flagged this to management who are discussing better solutions for those patients who need to isolate whilst waiting, especially when the department is very busy. If you would like to discuss this further, we recommend speaking to our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) if you haven't already done so. PALS can be contacted by email at bcfpals@nhs.net or telephone on 0208 216 4924. Again, our apologies for such a poor experience and we wish you and your baby well for the future. Kind regards, the patient experience team.
