  1. Review titled Kind and patient staff

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 30 December 2023

We visited Barnet Hospital to access their A&E/UTC services for my Turkish-speaking mother. The staff were polite and gave my mother the time she needed. A doctor in the UTC was so thorough with my mother and her symptoms. He even spoke my mother's native language to make her feel more at ease and break down the language barrier. This made a big difference in our experience as my mother felt more at ease when told that the symptoms did not indicate anything serious as she was confident that she had been understood in the first place. Thank you to the doctor for your time, patience and kindness, and thank you to the Barnet A&E/UTC teams for working tirelessly through the festive season for the community.

  2. Review titled Very Bad practice

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Taher - Posted on 23 December 2023

I came here in this hospital so as to get treatment for my broken toe that was painful and numb. After being registered at the reception, I was called in the assessment room in which I was told that I will be called by the doctors discovering that I sat here for four hours without being called by the doctors. My toe hurts really bad that it turned black really numb and swollen that I couldn’t barely walk. Is it just because of the bad customer care or is it doing it on purpose and they know the reason? But we should be told why because it is not fair for sick people to just sit down waiting for your help for more than four hours and even the people who came after called treated and left and when asked why they just told me to continue wait🥺until now not called for service::12:40AM. Bad experience

Dear Taher, we're very sorry to read that you had a long wait to have your broken toe treated. Our emergency department is seeing higher numbers of patients at the moment, who are treated in order of medical priority, but we recognise the impact that long waiting times have on our patients and we are sorry for your poor experience. If you would like to discuss this further, we would advise speaking to our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS). PALS can be contacted by email at bcfpals@nhs.net or telephone on 0208 216 4924. In the meantime, we send you our best wishes. The patient experience team.

  3. Review titled Overall excellent care

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Jill Johnston - Posted on 01 January 2024

I broke my arm arriving on the evening of a Doctors strike. The waiting room was crowded and quite unpleasant experience. Understandably I had to wait but was seen by the triage nurse, X rayed and a Doctor over the next few hours. Without exception the medical staff were professional, considerate and friendly. I left with a sling and pain killers. Follow up appointments came thick and fast, further x-rays, a scan and a density scan ( I'm 76 ) Three Doctor appointments and physio. I cannot fault the speed of the follow up. I found moving around the hospital and finding locations difficult with missing or misleading signage. The medical treatment was excellent.

  4. Review titled Very bad experience

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 09 November 2023

After waiting for 3 hours, I was advised to go to another hospital as they don’t have the speciality which I wanted to see. The person who gave me the advice, vanished after suggesting this. I looked everywhere and asked a nurse to tell me if she knows where the other person is. This nurse replied” I am too busy and I am taking another patient in. Please ask somebody else”. The way she behaved was very rude. I went to next room and knocked the door and waited for somebody to open. Many staff passed by the door but nobody bothered to open and ask why i was waiting. I somehow managed to ask a doctor to go in the room and look for the nurse. He said I should speak to the receptionist and he cannot let me in to the room( treatment room i guess) In the end , I managed to speak to another nurse regarding this and she explained that they don't have the speciality and I should go somewhere else. But , I was unable to find the person who suggested this until the very end. Nurses who act very busy and not at all concerned about the patients who are waiting or seeking help. It would only take 2 minutes for them to find their colleague rather than me looking for them in the hospital for 1 hour. Nurses focussed only on finishing their jobs. No service mentality. I hope nobody will have to experience this. I understand that they are busy because I am a nurse. But it will not take much of your time to look for a colleague.

Our emergency department does continue to see high levels of activity, but from what you've described, we would advise speaking to our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) who could look into this further for you. PALS can be contacted by email at bcfpals@nhs.net or telephone on 0208 216 4924. In the meantime, we apologise again for your poor experience. Kind regards, the patient experience team.

  5. Review titled Maternity - no one picks up the phone

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 30 November 2023

Good luck trying to get in touch for any maternity services when pregnant at Barnet Hospital. Cannot get through to the appointments number to query why I’m being booked in for double appointments, unable to get through to the booking midwife for my c section date; fyi I’m almost 39 weeks and was told c section should take place during 39th week, however I was informed they’re fully booked and if I go into labour it will be classed as an emergency. It took me almost 3 days to get this information after stalking the number. Absolutely outrageous. For any of those trying to reach triage in an emergency and looking for advice, I wouldn’t hold much luck getting through to them. I regret choosing Barnet Hospital over Northwick Park which says a lot.

  6. Review titled Very good fracture care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 21 March 2024

I visited the Fracture Clinic four times following a wrist fracture. Each time I had an X-ray and saw a doctor. Although there was a wait for each of these, the wait was never too long. All the staff were friendly and professional. It was useful to have an X-ray each time for the reassurance that the wrist bones were staying in place in the cast. Seeing a doctor as well was invaluable for questions and general reassurance. The follow up appointment system by text worked promptly and efficiently. What particularly impressed me was that I was told I could phone if I had any questions. I did this on one occasion and was asked to come in again for an X-ray and to see a doctor.

  9. Review titled A very caring environment

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Shelley Jane Wilson - Posted on 27 October 2023

I cannot thank the staff of walnut ward enough for their care of my mother. Everyone, from the consultants to the orderlies were so kind and respectful to my mum, who was close to end of life with dementia. She spent 5 months altogether at the hospital, initially on a different ward. All the staff- including those in a&e and uc, were so empathetic and lovely, both to my mum and to her family. Personalised care in action, despite all the challenges they struggle with in these times- these people are angels!
