Review titled Endoscopy Department
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Christine Rands - Posted on 10 May 2023
I would like to thank all staff within the endoscopy department at Basildon Hospital for their professionalism and kindness when I required a gastroscopy. Each and every person within the department were kind, friendly and helpful and put me at ease during what is not a very nice procedure. You are all stars!! Thank you.

Review titled Linford Ward
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Kevin plant - Posted on 08 May 2023
I feel compelled to write this review because of the jaw dropping exceplary service / treatment I have just received from the above ward staff . From the moment I arrived in some considerable pain to the time I left after surgery I was treated by staff who clearly are skilled and obviously care about dealing with the patients needs . Noticeably in my opinion only I must note ,there where elderly delirious noisy patients who clearly needed different location specialist wards and treatment s. These were treated by staff with patience, skill and compassion . Staff had to communicate loudly but gently to overcome and quell the shouting of the patience in order to quickly quieten the din disturbing other patients who were distressed and being kept awake . All the nursing staff were completely trained and knew every question thrown at them . The support nurses (forgive title description) were equally diligent and friendly. The wards were impeccably cleaned and patients comfort was always for front in their minds . Surgical team just faultless and I do not possess the vocabulary to describe how highly I rated there help and skill . It is understandable that the rules state I am not allowed to name individuals and on reflection I realise I would be unfair to anyone I missed , but I say thank you all guys , you are a credit to your profession. Take a bow .

Review titled Chaos in gynecology; poor organisation.
Rated 1 star out of 5

After spending nearly an hour trying to find a non-existent parking space in the multi-story car park (and any ground level car parks) at the hospital I drove to Basildon Town Centre to park my car. I wish I'd used public transport - despite the fact I live a considerable distance from the hospital. I was 40 minutes early for my appointment but 14.40 hours (the appointed time) came and went and I was increasingly concerned about rescuing my vehicle from a town-centre car park. The 14.20 hours appointment ran late and the woman due in at 14.30 hours was still waiting at 14.45 hours. I had absolutely no confidence whatsoever that I would get in, for what I was told was to be a 5 minute consultation, within a reasonable time. There is absolutely no mechanism to obtain a rescheduled appointment whilst at the hospital; the reception was unhelpful to say the least. I called the relevant department later in the afternoon and was given the impression that care would be denied me as I had left the hospital (prior to seeing the doctor) due to unacceptable waiting period. There is no excuse whatsoever for these appointments to be delayed in this way. From my observations I believe that some of the staff were busy having a chat in the consulting room when they could have been seeing patients. I am not impressed with anything I have seen in this particular department of Basildon University Hospital. Other departments seem to work adequately but not this one. I asked a number of times whether there was a private hospital in the area but no one seemed to know. I shouldn't have to even consider going down such a route and as a regular payer of National Insurance contributions and taxes I feel very short-changed by the NHS of late. It's the attitude of some of the staff that concerns me. I expect a service - especially when I am worried about a particular potential health issue. No one seems to know anything and there is no flexibility for the "customer". The NHS has repeatedly cancelled my previous appointments and I have been waiting since October/November 2022 to be provided with a fairly simple, yet vital, procedure. We all seem to have to fend for ourselves these days - including the kind patient who offered me her 14.30 hours slot. Despite the kindness of another patient I wasn't prepared to take a chance and hang around when the appointments were getting more and more backed up due to the slow speed of service in the department.

Review titled Excellent care
Rated 4 stars out of 5

Attended a&e with my dad who had been taken poorly. At the time the hospital had declared a major incident with no bed spaces. In spite of this the care my dad received was outstanding. Very thorough and caring even though they were pushed to the limit.

Review titled Contact regarding appointments
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by D. Essex - Posted on 30 April 2023
My husband has an appointment today at the new building for a scan. He has put his back out and will not be able to attend. I have spent time telephoning and using the website. There are no facilities to inform the hospital that he cannot attend the appointment. I do not want him labelled as a non attendee and we do want another scan to be arranged. What on earth can we do??? The NHS publish figures of costs wasted through non attendance but do not offer facilities to inform of cancellations.

Review titled Dermatology Expertise
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Elaine Green - Posted on 04 May 2023
On the 27th March I had a procedure in Dermatology to remove a spot above my lip. I have now heard that this was cancerous but has now been cleared completely. I should like to thank the consultant and praise her expertise and deftness. Thanks to her very great skill I have no obvious scar and am much reassured about my skin health. The Dermatology Department have shown exceptional patient care. Thank you very much indeed.

Review titled A&E Minors
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Cosmina - Posted on 24 March 2023
I went to A&E with a crushed thumb. I want to say a big Thank you! to a very kind nurse who was so lovely and help me out with an unbearable pain. I’m sorry I didn’t catch her name. Kind people like her make a huge difference when you are genuinely in pain. Big thank you to the doctor who looked after me, as well. God bless you all!

I took my mother to get her skin lumps removed for biopsy today (5/3/23) and we had the most loveliest of nurses and HCA. I am unable to name them but they were so lovely and friendly and made mum feel at ease, chatting and laughing whilst doing it. Just genuinely beautiful people and service. I just wanted to thank them. I hope they read this and they know who they are, because they deserve praise!
