  1. Review titled Compassionate care with dignity and respect

    by Steam87 - Posted on 26 January 2023

Last week I was discharged from Bristol Royal Infirmary following surgery to fit a defibrillator (S-ICD) inside my body as a result of Ventricular Tachycardia. During my stay I was on ward C705 in the Bristol Heart Institute where I received excellent care from the team. The wards were clean and well maintained and the nursing staff were supportive, kind, friendly and understanding. The meals were good each day and the staff always aimed to provide you with a fulfilled food order based on your dietary requirements and preferences. As I am in my thirties, the vast majority of the patients on the wards were older adults, some of who had complex issues including dementia. The nursing staff were truly sublime in catering for these individuals and I witnessed some excellent care, compassion and dignity in helping these patients to get better. C705 does need more nursing staff and assistants on the ward, however, the staff they do currently have work tirelessly and are extremely skilled at their jobs. Please continuously praise and reward them.

  2. Review titled Absolutely brilliant doctors, nursing and support staff

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Steve Murray - Posted on 04 October 2022

Following superb care and attention from all the staff the administration and particularly the pharmacy are hopeless. On a previous stay we had to wait over six hours for pharmacy to make up the necessary prescriptions in order for me to leave. Presently been waiting five hours and no end in sight! There is obviously a major bottleneck in the system which needs addressing. All the rest of the system downstream of pharmacy is impacted including 'bed blocking ' a major problem within the NHS. Put more resources into the pharmacy element and deal with the fundamental problems there, it's not rocket science!

I am very impressed that I was triaged within 5 minutes of arriving. The nurse practitioners I saw were both excellent. I was given pain relief, had my hand stitched and given aftercare advice all within an hour . I was The unit was clean, and the staff were lovely.

  4. Review titled Efficient and friendly

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Was told to visit A&E after calling 111 about fainting and a head injury. I was super suprised to be in and out so quickly. The reception staff were making sure only the people with a genuine need to be there were in which must have helped kept the waiting time down. I saw 3 members of staff, Charlotte in triage, someone who did my ECG and finally a doctor (sorry I can't remember names) everyone was super friendly and calm. Credit to the doctor who explained everything and made sure I understood and was happy with everything before I left. It was my first time visiting A&E at BRI and while I have no intention of doing so again, it is nice to know that that level of service exists despite the immense pressure the NHS faces. Thank you!

  5. Review titled Telephone not being answered

Rated 1 star out of 5

by John Tucker - Posted on 10 November 2022

I was informed be the department on 4th October 2022 to ring back after the 31st October to make an appointment. I have been trying every day since the to make it. I have been dialing the number on my referral sheet 01173423277 and getting the same recorded message telling me the opening hours, receiving above normal amount of calls and to ring back later, finishing with "Thank you for calling, Goodbye" I would hate to count up the amount of calls that I have made ! This sort of service is totally unacceptable. I phoned BRI switchboard to try and get through and they gave me another number to try only to get the same recorded voice and message. What do I have to do to get my appointment. ??????????

  6. Review titled Terrible

Rated 1 star out of 5

I have telephoned the Dermotology Dept over 125 times in Two day and still the do not answer the phone . How is a patient meant to speak to a member of staff. If they have a higher number if calls Get more call takers. This is simply not acceptable . Many patients have skin and nail cancers and needto communicate with someone . I am still unable to get through. Im absolutely disgusted with this experience.

  7. Review titled Update

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Steve Murray - Posted on 08 October 2022

Following on from my previous review I waited eight hours for my discharge papers and medication to arrive! All the while I am effectively 'bed blocking ' with no medical reasons to still be there. These delays impact the system all the way to the patients arriving by ambulance. Patients can't be admitted through lack of staff or beds meaning they have to wait in the ambulance effectively using them as 'waiting rooms '. This ridiculous situation means some patients are seen briefly then sent back out to continue waiting in the ambulance. Tying up the crew and the vehicle is plain madness, these vital resources are desperately needed elsewhere. All the staff top to bottom do an incredible job but administrative bottlenecks and misused resources are a major issue which needs addressing to make things more efficient.

  8. Review titled Wonderful staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Linda - Posted on 17 September 2022

Spent 14 hours in A&E this week - all staff from porters to doctors and nurses were unfailingly caring and supportive and my investigations and treatment were arranged efficiently and thoroughly. Glitches, whether they were to do with the system or patients' challenging behaviours, were overcome with calmness and professionalism. Congratulations on maintaining these high standards at this difficult time.

I arrived at the BRI Bristol A&E in extreme pain and was overwhelmed at the care, kindness, attention, professionalism, thoroughness with every avenue explored from start to leaving. A huge thanks to the wonderful Nurses, Doctors, Radiographers, Porters and Reception Staff who looked after me so very well. A very humbling experience. Charles Fall Off a Ladder Stocks

  10. Review titled Amazing

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I had the need to take my elderly father to A and E late one evening this week and I cannot praise every member of staff enough. Courteous, caring, funny, knowledgeable, friendly and patient. We were kept updated regularly, and their service was above and beyond. I cannot thank them enough. At all times we felt in very safe hands. Thank you.
