A big thank you to the opthalmology department; the anaesthetist, surgeons and nurses both. My treatment for cataract and an accompanying full corneal graft has been life-transforming. Very pleased with results so far. Thank you NHS...Simply legendary.

  2. Review titled a brilliant hospital

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Rene Weis - Posted on 12 December 2022

We were urgently referred by NHS 111 to A & E for a timed arrival, after 48h hours of hoping my wife's agonising condition would improve. It was a life-saver. From the moment we were seen - it was urgent - we felt safe. My wife was seen by the A & E doctors within the hour, then by radiology, then CT scan, and then by a specialist team who diagnosed her condition, a bowel volvulus. All the staff, porters, nurses, doctors and senior consultants were not only focussed and professional but also kind and caring. How do they do it, we were wondering, when they were constantly in and out dealing with patients. Within 3 hours of arrival my wife was pain-free and had been seen by specialists. We arrived at 9.15 am and by that evening she had been seen and treated repeatedly, including by the senior consultant. They kept her in for two nights for monitoring, given the nature of volvulus and the danger of recurrence. It is true that parts of the real estate of Charing X outside look the worse for wear (another conversation to be had), but inside this is an exceptional hospital. It has looked after us very well over the years. The sheer cost of running a major hospital like Charing X is hard to grasp. Thank goodness Charing X and its dedicated staff are there for all of us. The NHS and its incredible people are indeed the jewel in the crown. We should never take it for granted.

  3. Review titled Disappointing

Rated 2 stars out of 5

I took my father to A&E has he fell down the stairs, after waiting over 4h and some tests I've been told that he needs further examination and to please wait. We have been for more than 10 hours here and nothing to say as yet, just disappointed to see hoe everyone is having fun but not even letting us know what's the next step for us. I can understand how busy they can be but all I want to know is the procedure and roughly how long is going to take, what's next, just anything... and after all this time we are still not in a proper room even though I've been told they going to move him to a room soon... Feels like they don't even care....

These days because of demand on services often non urgent care is affected. Let me tell you my story : I work in the NHS and understand all the pressures but at the end of last month I had a total hip replacement at Charing Cross Hospital and it has transformed both my physical and mental health Knowing the pressures system was under I tolerated extreme pain and lack of mobility for 18 months without seeking help :I continued to work but was finding it more and more difficult to maintain my independence I was persuaded to have surgery and it has transformed my life Thank you so much to all the staff on Ward 7 South nurses, HCAs , Drs, therapists and ward hostesses you were fantastic and the Ward matron was amazing as a leader and my surgeon so caring I want everyone to know that a joint replacement does change lives and for everyone to understand although considered routine surgery it is not routine for a patient whose mobility is affected and in a lot of pain Thanks to Charing Cross Hospital for a new lease of life

  7. Review titled Mammogram results missing

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by DEA Slater - Posted on 28 November 2022

As a 50 year old whose mother and maternal aunt both have had breast cancer and whose brother died from cancer last year (genetic component), it doesn’t sit well with me that Charing Cross’ breast screening programme can’t seem to get my results to me despite the promises (yes, I’ve been on the phone to chase up) of popping another results letter in the post to my address (yes, they have the right one). It’s 5 weeks on and it would be great to know my results! Too bad putting a results letter in a letter box is hospital admin’s equivalent of scaling Everest; impossible to do.

  8. Review titled Not a great experience

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 22 October 2022

My recent breast scan was a totally different experience to the first one that I had 3 years ago. When I had the first one I was told to change in a cubicle and given a gown to cover myself before the exam started, the mammographer was very calm and reassuring and explained everything that was going to happen. When I had my recent one, I had to change in the same room as the mammographer and walk across the room with my breasts exposed which left me feeling very uncomfortable. I also found the mammographer to be quite abrupt

  9. Review titled Positive, well informed and friendly experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Carol Robertson - Posted on 09 October 2022

I attended the Breast Care / Screening Assessment Clinic in Charing Cross Hospital on 3/10/22 and received the very best of service, I could not ask for more. Was met by the friendliest nurse ever, a fabulous communicator. Then a nurse took my details, a great listener and explained everything clearly and ensured I understood and had the opportunity to ask questions. Had another mammogram (ladies were very efficient and caring) and then ultrasound. All was clear and a good outcome for me. The team were just fabulous in every way. I can't praise them highly enough. Please pass on my thanks

  10. Review titled Fantastic blood clinic team, shame about state of building

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Adam - Posted on 20 September 2022

I had bloods taken a week ago in the blood clinic, west wing of the hospital. The staff were fantastic, very kind and conscientious when there was a mix-up with my paperwork. I also had a bad reaction to the blood being taken but I was looked after by a nurse (I am not allowed to give their name!), who was so compassionate and really looked after me until I pulled through. All the staff in the clinic seemed kind and supportive of one another, doing their best in a very busy part of the hospital. Thank you so much! The only other thing I would comment on is a more general observation - the hospital building itself is in dire need of renovation. Lots of areas of the hospital are dark and boarded up. Wall displays are stale and unwelcoming. Ceiling tiles are dirty, with many missing. This must really have an impact on the many fantastic people who work there. Investment urgently needed.
