Review titled Outstanding Staff
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Alan Leslie Matkin - Posted on 26 April 2023
I attended for a Colonoscopy quite nervous even though I had been well briefed beforehand so had some idea of what to expect. From the moment I walked in, the staff made me feel welcome and safe. Every stage of preparation leading up to the investigation was well explained in a clear and really friendly way. The Colonoscopy its self was nothing like I had built it up to be in my head. I chose to be lightly sedated but I was still aware of what was happening to me and I could see it all on the screen (my choice) Every step was explained clearly and I didnt really feel a thing. After the procedure I was taken to a recovery room where the nurse made sure I was ok, looked after me really well and bought me a cup of coffee and 2 biscuits which was so nice because i had just gone 28 hours without food and was starving. Thank you so much to everyone involved.

Review titled Email contact
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by D Brian McKenzie - Posted on 12 April 2024
Hi, Let me start by saying that I have no problem with the way I was treated at my appointment. I was and am more than satisfied. Everyone concerned was friendly and efficient and a credit to the hospital. Following this consultation the doctor is arranging for me to have a scan. Excellent service so far. Three days after my appointment I received, in the post, a handwritten envelope containing a handwritten note and a blood test form. The note asked me to 'attend for the enclosed blood tests at your GP Surgery etc.'. I realised that it was for me to make an appointment with the surgery and have done so. The point of this review is to ask the question why, in 2024, is the NHS resorting to sending handwritten notes in the post asking patients to arrange their own blood tests? I am registered on the NHS app so a more cost effective and efficient way of contacting me would be via email. I had to verify my email address to send this review and received verification from the NHS by that medium. This in turn raises a second question. Why couldn't the hospital contact the GP surgery directly, by email, to arrange the test? This further makes me wonder why, as I was present in a major hospital, after my appointment, the blood test, which will take minutes, could not have been performed there and then on site. How often does this seemingly inefficient and costly procedure occur in the course of a year? Just because it's always been done this way doesn't make it right. The world moves on. Regards D B McKenzie

My husband went in with chest pain this morning ( fortunately tuned out not to be concerning) All the staff were very friendly and efficient and we were in and out in just over 2 hours. The hospital was clean and quiet ( though early in the morning) Great to be able to purchase a hot drink from the vending machine at only £1 Thank you very much Thank you very much

Review titled Whilst walking in the Peak District fell & broke ankle
by Gomez9 - Posted on 07 March 2023
I fell and broke my ankle in three places whilst walking in the Peak District a week ago. Friends brought me to A&E at Chesterfield Royal hospital and I was seen almost immediately by a doctor and after manipulation to put my foot back in place, I was admitted pending an operation to put in pins and plates. All the staff, from the cleaners to the surgeon have been really kind, with nothing too much trouble for them.

Review titled Excellent service
by Gemima Puddle duck - Posted on 16 March 2023
I cannot thank A&E enough for taking care of me. They were all very efficient, caring and considerate. They are very overworked and had 71 further patients to care for but still find time to look after me, so thank you for everything you did for me that day. Excellent service.

Review titled My experience of the eye clinic
by foxtrotgw54 - Posted on 30 March 2023
I have a serious eye condition in my Left eye and I am blind in my right eye. When I have a corneal breakdown in my left eye it leaves me virtually blind and in a lot of pain. Last Friday evening I had a bad attack on my eye and had to wait for the eye clinic to open on Monday morning. I have been before and there is nobody in casualty department that can help with complex eye problems. I do not understand why the Eye Clinic Is only open Monday to Friday. Do people not have eye problems at weekends? I would have thought a clinic on Saturday say from 9:00 till 12:00 would be a much valued service for people with urgent eye problems that can't be dealt with at the Casualty Department.

Thank you for sharing your experience. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide 7 day a week ophthalmology cover here at the trust. We do work in partnership with our surrounding NHS trusts to ensure patients have access to an on call Ophthalmology service if required. They are also on call to provide expert ophthalmology advice if requested, for any patient that attends our Emergency Department with an urgent or emergency condition out of hours. Don’t forget that 111 are also available for help and advice and are able to signpost patients to the most appropriate care setting 24 hours a day. Many Thanks Sam Wain Senior Matron Surgical Specialties

Review titled Abhorrent treatment of an elder
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 31 March 2023
My elderly mum was admitted to A&E the other week. After 10 hours she was discharged. She did not get a drink of water in 10 hours, was not offered nor was helped when asking for a drink on numerous occasions. The saline drip that she was hooked up to failed and not one nurse replaced or checked it, despite numerous requests to do so. The care and compassion was absent. Automatons doing the work of carers and not even pretending to care.

Review titled Great service to start off with
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 17 February 2023
Came in for an induction with my partner on the 16th Feb 2023 the midwife team we had could not be more pleasant everything went to plan and our daughter was born in the evening. My partner went up to trinity over night and was told around dinner time to start preparing to go home. At 8:30 pm we was told there was no doctor available still to see some blood results and discharge us. We have two other children at home who we are paying childcare for to stay out while we are here. I just can’t understand why it seems to be 1 doctor for the whole hospital because that’s what it feels like we spent more time waiting to go home then we did in labour and giving birth. At least the midwife’s were friendly but the waiting is shocking

Thank you for taking the time to feedback regarding your wait to go home following the birth of your daughter. May I offer my congratulations to you on the birth of you baby and I do hope that Mum and Baby are well. I agree that it is a long time to wait for discharge, I will pass your comments onto Trinity Ward. However, if you would like us to look into the reasons for your delay and for the Trust feedback as to why this happened, you can contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 01246 512640 or crhft.acs@nhs.net. Review titled Great practice during pregnancy
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Laura Walker - Posted on 11 April 2023
I will be forever grateful to the staff at Chesterfield Royal hospital, who cared for me and my baby during a rather traumatic first pregnancy resulting in my baby being born at 33 weeks by emergency C section. This includes all staff on Antenatal, Trinity ward, Birth centre, surgical team, Neonatal and support staff. Throughout my pregnancy I received the up most care and compassion. The Neonatal team are truly amazing they cared for me and my partner as new parents, they taught us so much and were so kind. We were reassured knowing our baby boy was in safe hands. He is home now thanks to all wonderful NHS staff who helped us.
