  2. Review titled Professional, caring & patient friendly excellent

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Ms. Alison Hortin - Posted on 06 February 2023

My practise doctor assessed me by telephone and contacted City Road Hospital Birmingham Emergency Dept to alert them to possible cardiac issue. An immediate appointment at Amu2 was agreed. I made my way to the Hospital and was seen immediately by staff who were caring and professional listened to my concerns and acted upon their observations. The Amu2 ward was extremely clean & as a disabled person, I was afforded comfortable seating in the waiting areas. The staff were all polite and respectful and very caring. It was a faultless, efficient & instructive experience and I am proud to be a patient member of this nhs Trust. Thank you so much to all the staff

  3. Review titled Feeling humiliated on the ward

by Canny - Posted on 08 February 2023

Staff on ward D30 stopped bringing commodes and wanted all patients to walk to the toilet. I have osteoarthritis and walk slowly with a frame. I was unable to make it in time I started to drop en route as I had explained I would. I felt humiliated and made to stand in front of the whole bay whilst it was cleared up and I cried.

  4. Review titled The wonderful care received by my elderly parents

    by Kent62 - Posted on 04 January 2023

My mother and father are 86 and 87 respectfully. At the end of November my father collapsed taking my mother with him. They were both taken by ambulance to Birmingham City Hospital, Dudley Road. My mother was treated in A&E for a fractured wrist and head injury and discharged home. My father was admitted and in hospital for 10 days. Subsequently he was admitted overnight to Sandwell Hospital for a different condition. I would like to thank the many staff who looked after both of them. Their caring and kindness during a period of high pressure in the NHS was exceptional. [Very happy with 'Staff attitude']

  5. Review titled 10 hour + waiting times!!

Rated 1 star out of 5

Do not attend this hosptial under any circumstance! Wouldn’t put my dog in here! I was sent by 111 due to concerns of a blood clot being on my lung, being unable to breathe properly and suffering with chest pain and tightness. I was seen almost immediately by the nurses of whom was rude and acted as though they did not want to be there. The reception staff were unapproachable huffing and puffing when asking simple, polite questions. Patients were being dragged across the floors and it was announced to the rest of the patients ‘do not worry about him there is nothing wrong with him he is doing it to get a bed’ this was from a care assistant. This patient was also throwing up on the floor and was left and ignored until a member of the public gave him a sick bowl. The whole t was full of dirt. Not sanitary in the slightest with peoples cotton wool from their blood being taken- left on the floors, a pile of sweeped rubbish left in the middle of the waiting area. Orange peel ect left on the floor, people with stab wounds left to ‘wait’. Absolutely disgusting, please do not attend!

Dear patient, I am sorry to read about your negative experience when visiting our A&E department at City Hospital. I am concerned about your description of a patient being mistreated and the attitude of the staff who you encountered. This is not the kind of behaviour we would expect from our staff. I will ensure that this is investigated further by passing on your comments to the service manager. I will also raise the issue around cleanliness with our domestic services. Please accept my apologies for your negative experience. Kind regards, Richard Beeken, Chief Executive.

  6. Review titled Poor practice

So my son and his girlfriend are expecting a baby and today was there first scan, both myself and my son are planned birthing partners and was looking forward to sharing the whole pregnancy experience with my sons girlfriend. I have attended midwife appointments with them both, then we come to hospital and book in for her scan, all three of us went to the booking in desk, not once was we told that only 1 adult could go in with my sons girlfriend so we all sit and wait for 45 mins past the appointment time. Finally we get called through only for myself to be told I had to leave as it is only 1 other adult in the scan room (always used to be 2). So after a long wait I have to leave which was upsetting to all of us, just as we are leaving another couple went in with 2 adults with them and when I asked why I got told well she needs an interpreter. Can’t help but feel double standards are being carried out, the one person wants 2 adults for support but isn’t allowed the other needs 2 people for support and is allowed. This is not the first time this hospital has messed up in maternity and I’m sure it won’t be the last. I used to hold this hospital in high esteem but not anymore.

Dear Kerry, thank you for sharing your feedback, I am sorry that you are unhappy with your recent experience when attending a scan with your son and his girlfriend. Our current policy is that only one person can accompany a woman having her scan due to infection control measures, unless they have additional needs, for example an interpreter to help translate. However based on your feedback, I will ask the team to review the current position to see if it can be changed without impacting infection control measures. I must apologise that you weren’t informed about the one-person policy at any point and have spoken with the service to ensure that appointment letters will now clearly state this, and signs are immediately erected in the area so that it is clear to patients using the service. Kind regards, Mel Roberts, Chief Nursing Officer

  7. Review titled Thank you

    by plusmp76 - Posted on 27 February 2023

We came in with our 12-month-old son, who had a rare skin condition which makes children really poorly. He was canulated, had bloods and swabs and had to stay in for a few weeks. My child is very social, so being isolated was very upsetting to watch, but every single person working at the hospital who came to see him were honestly amazing, they all interacted with him, making him laugh, even gave him hugs that he requested all the time. The staff always made sure me and my partner as parents were cared for too, we had many laughs through the tough time, some hugs and lots of words of encouragement. They got us through the worst time of our lives. We will never forget the care and love they showed to all 3 of us 24/7. I'm so grateful for everything they have done on the road to my son's recovery. I will never forget what they have done for us. They were the light at our darkest time and we could have never got through it without their support and kindness, as well as the health care we received.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I attended the gynaecology department at the treatment centre this morning for a colposcopy. I was really nervous about the procedure and the staff were so kind. I can't remember their names, but every single staff member I interacted with were lovely. They really put me at ease with an uncomfortable procedure, listened to my requests and provided welcome distractions by chatting.

  10. Review titled MRI Imaging booking receptionist so rude!

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 12 September 2022

Phoned to try and book an MRI scan, receptionist was so rude cut me off before I could explain what I was calling for and then was transferred to the wrong department, x-ray receptionist was pleasant and transferred me back again to this person. People are human beings with concerns, a little bit of humanity, respect and understanding goes along way especially in worrying times!! Perhaps effective communication training would help, but then again perhaps she is just a nasty person!
