  1. Review titled extremely impressed

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Samira Kosuta - Posted on 01 November 2023

I arrived on a Sunday morning about 7am at the a&e as I had abdominal pain and suspected it could be the appendix causing issues. The a&e Team Set me up very quickly and took blood and urine samples in the first step before I had seen a doctor - I was really impressed how well organized it was. The a&e Doctor confirmed then that my appendix is causing issues and referred my immediately to the surgical assessment unit (sau)which did a ct a few hours later to confirm the diagnosis. By 3pm in the afternoon I had my diagnosis and they have booked me in for surgery on the same day in the evening. The surgeon and the Anesthetist introduced themselves before surgery and explained the procedure to me. I was taken to the theatre by the surgeon himself which really gave me more confidence ( I was a bit afraid ). As soon as the surgery had been done I was offered a cup of tea and some biscuits. All in all I have to thank the staff for being so kind and helpful. I felt well looked after the whole time. After a day of my arrival in the a&e was discharged and my appendix removed - I felt in best hands all the time. Thank you so much Colchester Hospital

I have to say a big thank you to the very hard working staff at this department. I was diagnosed with prostate cancer and from beginning of the process to my first treatment I have been looked after so very well. I have been kept informed about all procedures and what to expect which was so helpful in understanding what is and about to happen to my body.

  5. Review titled Wonderful care.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Mrs l. Mckenzie - Posted on 13 September 2023

I had to take my dad to A&E after a fall. From the moment we stepped through the doors the care and attention they gave my dad was wonderful. Even though they were so busy they listened to my dad chatted with him. Yes we had to wait a while but even the porter would wheeled dad to the X-ray department was lovely. A big big thank you from myself and my dad.

  6. Review titled Unfeeling

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Linda - Posted on 08 October 2023

My 27 yr old son was taken to colchester hospital early Sunday morning by ambulance, can not fault the ambulance staff they were wonderful. I was shown to the relatives room where I was left fretting and no one came to see, after about an hour I went in search for information where I was told I'm not on duty yet go to the desk. Once I got to see my son I was informed he had had a stroke and he wouldn't survive and they couldn't do anything for him, the E R staff were nice, they said they were moving him to the stroke unit. Knowing my son was going to die soon I asked if I could stay with him and was told no. My husband, my younger son and the patients girlfriend and myself sat with my elder son for rhe whole visiting times but was made to feel in the way so much so they were running trolleys over our feet, pushing past us instead of asking us to move, even lowering the bed when my legs were under them resulting the bed pushing on my legs. They showed no compassion what's so ever. When we asked questions they were curt and not very nice at all. When we went home the nurse on the desk said your going now very sarcastically. I took the number so I could check on my son, when I rang later I was told that if there was any change they would ring me and I didn't need to ring again. About 3 hours later I got a phone call saying he had taken a turn for the worst and would I like to come up and he was surprised when I said I would. When we got there it turned out he had died a few minutes before they rang us. They said he took a turn for the worst earlier in the evening but decided to do a ct scan and get the results to see what was going on before ringing me which gave me no way of seeing my son before he died and as his mother and carer that has been with him throughout his life I was not there when he needed me most and I didn't get to say goodbye. i know these nurses usually work with the elderly but they showed no compassion at all.

  8. Review titled Compassionate, caring and efficient

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Sophocles Christophorou - Posted on 13 August 2023

The staff that dealt with me this evening were amazing. They were compassionate, had a wonderful sense of humour and really understood the situation that my grandfather was in. Before I had returned home a referral had been made to the necessary service and an appointment made for the following day. A call then was made to my landline to confirm I had the details. A very impressive service, and one that is worth mentioning given that people complain when something is not right I felt it necessary to write this review. Thank you so much.

  9. Review titled Kind, professional, hard working staff

    by Jacqueline518 - Posted on 31 August 2023

I was looked after so well, I had to write a positive review. Every single person on the ward who dealt with my care - whether it be the cleaning staff, the ward hosts, nurses or Doctors - were all fantastic. I was sad to leave, although pleased to go home to my family and beloved dogs. It looks as though I will be returning as still unwell. Thank you to all the kind, professional, hard working staff on Layer Marney Ward.

  10. Review titled Very disappointed

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 23 August 2023

I went to A&E last night i was having very high temperature and vomiting waited there for almost 3 hours to see a doctor and was told off to go home as urgent care centre close down at midnight I was not able to sit even though managed to sit for 3 hours just to come back home without consulting a doctor. I mean i am from overseas we pay NHS fees of £800 every year just not to be seen by doctor at least once in emergency. Very bad service . Even though i wasted paying £4.5 parking fees. They will not treat you if they see person dying they do not bother at all . They have asked me to come next day morning which i totally avoided going as i know it was going to be the same . Such a shame . Will never use NHS again
