  1. Review titled Orthopaedic Outpatient Dept

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Judith Stephenson - Posted on 24 April 2024

In under 2 hours I received an X-ray of my hips, a consultation with a Fellow with a future plan of action and an injection under ultrasound. I was very impressed with the professionalism, skill and caring attitude of all the staff concerned and would like to especially mention the radiologist and the nurse. Thank you to you all.

  2. Review titled Appointment at Rowan House

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 27 April 2024

On Monday 25th April 2024, I attended Rowan House for removal of a small lesion on my right ear, I previously had what I was told was a biopsy, however after several phone calls to check it was needed I was told definitely yes it was. Imagine my amazement when I went in for what I thought was a minor op, only to be told on reading my notes it was not necessary for any treatment, I am 85 had arranged for someone to drive me the 50 mile round trip, a total waste of my time, and staff time at Rowan house, probably depriving another patient an appointment.

Thank you for raising your concern through the Trust website. I am sorry to read you feel you had a wasted journey to the hospital for removal of a lesion that you had been listed to have surgery for. It appears, unknown to the Dermatology team, that another department had removed the lesion but had not made the dermatology team aware. Whilst you feel you had a wasted journey the dermatology team had to review you to ensure the correct lesion had been satisfactorily removed. 3. Review titled Excellent Care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Admitted to A&E Majors with C-Diff & Campylobacter (very serious due to medical history & previous surgeries) and the staff were fantastic. Was there for 24 hours. Moved to Tavy Ward and was not a great experience there. I was in insolation (was placed in a room that was obviously used as a storage unit, the lamp did not work & only the main light did, which was awful when they turned it on in the middle of the night to check my obs every few hours and contained 3 broken chairs) and very unwell and found the staff on Tavy not very approachable and was made to feel as if I was an inconvenience (always seem to find this on Naval wards). Was not even offered food even though I was there for 36 hours and was allowed to eat. Moved again to Norfolk ward (was there for 4 days) and what a difference! Staff were fantastic, very approachable and attentive (was still in insolation). Every member of staff I encountered in A&E Majors & Norfolk (Cleaners, Domestics, Doctors, Volunteers, Pharmacists, Nurses and HCA's) were cheerful, friendly, courteous and could not do enough for me.

On behalf of Derriford Hospital Emergency Department I would like to thank you for your kind website comment. It is always nice to receive positive feedback from patients. I will make sure all of our teams in the Emergency Department are aware of your kind words. Hearing such positive feedback really helps. Receiving a compliment like this is reflective of the outstanding care and compassion that our team aspire to deliver, despite the challenges. Thank you again for taking the time to comment. It is very much appreciated. Jayde Fletcher Emergency Services Manager I am sorry to read about your experience on Tavy and wish to extend our sincere apologies for the experience you received. I can only assume you were isolated in one of our patient cubicles as we do not use a storage unit as a bed space for patients. On reviewing the three cubicles following this feedback, I have requested for the bedside lamp in one of the cubicles to be repaired. We have also recently replaced several of our visitor chairs as we were aware that some were no longer fit for purpose. Thank you for sharing your experience with us and for highlighting areas of improvement on Tavy, it is not the standard of care that we aim to provide for our patients. I will share this feedback with our nursing and hotel services team to learn and improve from this moving forwards. Kind Regards Alex Alex Williams | Senior Sister | Ward Manager MAU Tavy Thank you very much for the kind feedback you have given our staff on Norfolk Ward. We always try to provide the best care possible and I am pleased to hear that we were able to provide a good service for you. Kind regards Pete Martucci Ward Manager - Norfolk Ward

  4. Review titled Wonderful caring team

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Mrs Jacqueline P I Johnson - Posted on 16 April 2024

Had my battery replaced yesterday for my neurostimulator and the complete team from first meeting doctor, anaesthetic and medronic consultant my experience was truly as amazing as having an op can be. They put me at ease, were personable, professional and explained everything that would happen at every stage. I felt assured and safe. The anaesthesiologist put me to sleep giving me a lovely smile and was awoken to the same. The recovery nurse although I'd forgotten her name, blonde and from Scotland was so super sweet to me. She was firstly very professional but the kind of nurse all NHS nurses should be like, wow she did you proud. Myself being one of those awkward vegans they had nothing available but she rang the kitchen and I was sent up a hummus and roasted veg on brown bread sandwich, a vegan jelly, a banana, orange and apple, a huge feast. So thank you to the nurse and also the kitchen. Lastly on a personal note I hope the nurse has a fabulous well deserved holiday climbing Ben Nevis. To all a very sincere thank you.

  6. Review titled Extremely reassuring

Rated 5 stars out of 5

As a claustrophobic, I have been absolutely terrified of the MRI scan I had to attend today. From the initial phone call to make the booking, through to the staff who carried out the procedure, I have been met with kindness, consideration and a genuine understanding of my fear. They have lots of coping mechanisms in place and support you every step of the way. We are all different but if I can do it, anyone can. Thank you so much to everyone who made this experience possible today.

  7. Review titled Very positive experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Julia - Posted on 26 March 2024

Visited Diagnostic endoscopy department at Derriford Hospital today. I was dreading the procedure after previous experiences. However the staff could not have been more helpful, professional and reassuring. The consultant who carried out the procedure was extremely professional and explained the procedure. I felt far more confident and relaxed. Aftercare also extremely good. Thanks you Derriford. Couldn’t ask for more. Keep up the good work 👍👍

  8. Review titled Everyone in A&E were on their game.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by IAN ELLICOTT - Posted on 15 March 2024

I attended A&E on the 9-3-24. My treatment required me to be in the department for 10.5 hrs, during the course of my treatment I was able to observe how the staff conducted themselves with all the patients, treating everyone equally. In my case my issues were noted and logged quickly, then moved onto the next stage, and then the next stage until a conclusion was reached, it gave me a understanding, of how the staff are unable to make decisions until the results are received, and then they can make a informed decision. Thanks to everyone involved with my treatment, the Antibiotics seem to be working, the pain has been greatly reduced.

  9. Review titled Lovely staff in children’s emergency department

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 31 March 2024

111 sent me to ED with my sick child on Easter Sunday. The staff were so kind. They gave all the children an Easter egg and offered warm sausage rolls to all the children. They offered juice and biscuits to the children. It was a long wait but they made it bearable for the children. Thank you to all the staff :)
