  1. Review titled A&E Doctor

Rated 5 stars out of 5

The doctor who I saw in A&E was so thorough and explained everything and made me feel at ease, they were quite busy but nothing was too much trouble

  2. Review titled Bad treatment

Rated 4 stars out of 5

I was at the Surgical Assessment Unit this week and another patient was in pain and being sick in another cubicle, she was on all fours on the bed, no one had bothered to give her any privacy, I appreciate they're busy but a few nurses came in and out and a nurse was sat at the station, it was only when a doctor came in and he pulled the curtain across, I felt for the lady

  3. Review titled sympathetic nursing

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Henry Hayward - Posted on 19 December 2022

My stay in Derriford exemplified everything that is good about care in this country. The only point that I would take issue with is the constant rotation of nurses. It would be reassuring if familiar faces returned on each shift rather than new ones. That having been said there was a constant high standard and I do not feel that qualty was compromised. Thank you for the care and thoroughness with which I was treated.

  4. Review titled Poor message

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 11 November 2022

I have received a text message asking if I want to remain on the waiting list for a knee operation (waiting 2 years). The message was cut in half and doesn't contain the important information - who to contact - tel number - email address? I have searched the web site but no contact details for the department on there. I called the main hospital number at 16.45 and no one answered. How are you supposed to deal with this? And I do need the operation rather more urgently than I did when I first went to my GP 3 years ago!!

  5. Review titled The communication was awful

    by encryptionts96 - Posted on 01 December 2022

My husband had a planned operation for a brain tumour on a Friday morning. All went to plan, the doctor phoned to tell me, which was good. That's when it started to go downhill. No one ever phoned to keep me informed, so unless I rang I was not told anything on his progress, and you don't like to keep ringing staff as they are really busy, but you do need to be informed about a loved one. My husband phoned on a Tuesday morning to say he had a scan, all was good, and he was being discharged. No one phoned all day to actually tell me this, and as my husband was a bit confused, I didn't know what to believe - we live 150 miles from the hospital, so you cannot just up and go. I had to ring the hospital to find out he was being discharged that evening at 5 p.m. on a dark, cold night. They sent him home via hospital transport. The communication was awful. We are under an immense amount of stress as it is without this. Very annoyed

  6. Review titled No communication between nurses and relatives

by Fussell - Posted on 09 November 2022

I am experiencing no communication between nurses and relatives, even had the phone put down on me. I feel this has been an abysmal service and not through lack of staff. Many running around but ask them any questions about my husband they dont appear to me to have a clue what is going on. I even had one nurse who was looking after my husband ask what was wrong with him. I feel the staff should know who and what they are dealing with without having to ask.

  7. Review titled Superb experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Steve Burge - Posted on 09 November 2022

I can’t thank the rei team enough. Calm, totally professional and simply superb. I owe you my eyesight. From first experiencing issues on Friday evening, to calling rei on Saturday morning, to being seen Sunday morning and treated immediately for a retinal tear, through to follow up on Wednesday afternoon, everything was brilliant. The rei was reassuringly calm, putting me at ease at a worrying time. Everything was done quietly and efficiently. I never had to wait anywhere for more than 5 minutes. I’ve never experienced care or service anything like it. Huge respect to you all and my heartfelt thanks.

  8. Review titled A very big thank you

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Nick Shapland - Posted on 22 October 2022

I would like to convey my thanks to all those Freedom Unit staff who were involved in my operation yesterday (211022). I particular I would like to thank The surgeon of the Urology department and all the theater staff whose professionalism and knowledge put me instantly at ease. Everyone I encountered were warm, genuine caring people. They explained what was going to happen, repeatedly checked my identity and the reason for my attendance and left me in no doubt I was in good hands. The NHS has been heavily criticized in recent years but my experience deserves nothing but praise. The surgeon was very professional and managed to find the time to speak to me before the operation and after informing me of the result. He is clearly well respected by the theater staff who worked very well together as a team. I had to wait in the recovery room for a few hours before I got a lift home and all the staff were very attentive and I witnessed a great team spirit as they all supported each other in their tasks. Once again you have my sincere thanks Note I am not permitted to name anyone in this review so I have used "The Surgeon" Nick Shapland

  9. Review titled Endless gratitude

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Paige - Posted on 03 November 2022

I cannot thank the staff who saw me enough. I went into a&e a bit anxious, as a young female I had been told for months and months by services that my symptoms were in my head/I was ‘too young to experience this’, on this particular day the symptoms got unbearable and so I went to a&e, and I am so glad I did, right from the start I was listened to and taken seriously. within 3 hours I had a diagnosis, treatment plan and referral to a specialist in place. I know as drs/hcas/nurses it’s most likely a normal day in the life! But for me I went home and cried, I was so relieved that all I could do was cry! for the first time I had been listened to, I had the correct tests ran, my gender nor age were mentioned or the possibility it was in my head and I got a diagnosis which meant I could now start to treat my symptoms, Being told things like “if you were a 40 year old man we’d be rushing you to hospital” and “you’re a teenager so it’s unlikely it’s anything other than in your head” when I knew something was wrong was the most frustrating thing, my condition was impacting every single part of my day to day life and no one was listening to me, until I saw the team I saw in a&e. Both my family and I will always hold the utmost gratitude for every single person I saw, from the Dr to the receptionist. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for listening to me and caring for me. Particularly the nurse/hca who right off the bat told me “it’s okay, I believe you” and the Dr who took his time to put himself in my shoes detailing how he wants me to see a specialist because as a young person it’s probably confusing and overwhelming, I thank you for doing more than just medicine. You’ve all made a bigger impact on my life than just simply giving me a diagnosis, after years of struggling and getting worse, you made me feel heard and given me a voice. I thank every single one of you from the bottom of my heart and I wish you nothing but the best in your medical careers.

  10. Review titled One year on from my renal transplant

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Julia Marlow - Posted on 09 October 2023

Tomorrow (10th) will be 1 year since I had my 3rd kidney transplant. I wanted to say how outstanding may care was on Mayflower ward, all of the staff went above and beyond to make sure I was well cared for and reassured especially as I was not allowed any visitors during my 11 day stay, & was along way from home. I am now back with Treliske for all my aftercare, but just wanted to acknowledge what a fantistic team they are, from the servers and cleaners, to the hca's, nurses, junior Dr's( esp the one who accepted my kidney, & it was the first one he had accepted) & the consultants. I cannot thank you all enough. I am doing well btw , & thinking of you all, & my donors family over the next few days
