Review titled No empathy, poorest of care
by Maza - Posted on 08 July 2024
After a spell in ICU & ward 26 I was moved to Ward G5. My time there was horrendous. I had mobility issues, due to my severe illness but often was left without a call button. I needed assistance to use the toilet but was never given that assistance. The total lack of empathy, & poor care I received was awful. I am 70 years old & was treated as though I was senile, although my mind is as sound as ever! The staff kept saying be careful you do not fall again, I never fell in the first place, I was hospitalised due to sepsis. My discharge was rushed & I was not furnished with a discharge letter nor medication other than a couple of open boxes of medication. I have repeatedly asked for a discharge letter with the correct dates & names on it but have yet to receive that. It is 4 months now since my admission to DRI, why has this not been addressed? I hope never to be taken to DRI again in my life

Review titled Life saving
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Marilyn Page - Posted on 07 May 2024
I remember nothing of being in ICU but am very aware of the wonderful care I received. I have no doubt my life was saved in ICU After I was moved to Ward 26 & thereafter to G5 staff from ICD still made a point of seeing me & supporting me where they could. I have nothing but the utmost respect for ICD & all their staff

Review titled Amazing A&E
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Mrs James - Posted on 23 March 2024
Every bed was full and staff were constantly back and forth. I genuinely expected a longer wait but the staff were amazing. If one person couldn’t answer a question or worry, it was less than 5 minutes before someone else did. I had to go to 2 separate imaging departments and was taken promptly by very kind and reassuring staff. I also had to wait for a consultant from a separate department and they arrived very quickly despite being based elsewhere in the hospital. I was well informed and was very well cared for. It was clear that all staff showed care and compassion to all those around me. It is hard being in a hospital bay but simply hearing the staff and how kind and caring they were made the experience much better than I thought when the ambulance was initially called

Review titled Thanks to all
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Denise Shanks - Posted on 26 April 2024
Hi at modular ward, I want to tell you how much kindness I received on your ward while having my hip replacement. Due to my family bereavement, death of my son I was in a very fragile state and made no secret that I was heartbroken. Everyone who looked after me was tender in my care and made my stay easier. All the people, staff, porters, tea ladies who made my decaf tea without complaint. Physio was gentle when I struggled and was tearful and said I don’t think I will ever be able to get out of my bed or walk again. They reassured me I would, and I did! Even going up 26 stairs up and down. My pain situation was very complicated with staff, as I am not able to take usual pain killers. However my GP helped me get over this and I am now back on my normal medication and usual pain doses, with no harm to me. Thank you all again, as a Christian I have prayed and given thanks to all of you individually. To the staff, who was there when I was admitted and did my catheter, who explained things to me fully, who looked after me and administered painkillers ,always helped me when I was in pain quickly, made my tea multiple times and never complained and taught me how to strip wash and helped me wash. My surgeon who did a fantastic job once again with my hip. The porter who took me to xray and came back for me The wonderful anaesthetist who treat me with such kindness and compassion despite his own grief of losing multiple family members in Gaza. I am sorry I cannot remember all your names. Thank you all very much

by Mrs Thelma Dixon - Posted on 17 February 2024
I had SVT and brought in by emergency ambulance to accident and emergency Dept.....the ambulance crew were marvellous, so reassuring, helpful and kind. All in emergency room from nurses and doctors so helpful, couldn’t wish for better treatment, reassured me as I had to have my heart beat regulated. Everything I experienced was a good positive response. I will always be thankful for their knowledge, expertise, prompt action. Bless you all 🙏🏼

Review titled Amazing care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Jemma - Posted on 05 March 2024
On the 18th of February after 4 days of antibiotics for a suspected chest infection I was advised to go to A and E, as my condition had worsened. The team in A and E were absolutely amazing with me. The doctor acted quickly and efficiently, diagnosing and starting my treatment for pneumonia. The other healthcare professionals laughed with me, reassured me, held my hand through such a traumatic experience. I couldn’t thank them enough for their care.

Review titled Shocking facilities
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Nickkie Robinson - Posted on 04 February 2024
My review is aimed at the management and cleaning services within DRI and not towards the wonderful staff I encounter on my visit yesterday. I have and am receiving quality care. On walking into DRI via the west entrance yesterday I horrified of the general lack of cleanliness and care of the building. I was directed to A&E to use bathroom facilities the area was dirty, the waiting room has undergone changes in recent years while I have been away and it would appear to the detriment of the department. Full as it was a Saturday. The smell hit as I walked around the corner. It was overly warm and felt a severe lack of ventilation. I found the toilet facilities inadequate, filthy, unkempt to the point where I didn’t use them. Urine, excrement and other in there. I know that some is down to the users but cleaning services were nowhere to be seen. The smell in there was overwhelming I rushed myself and my granddaughter out as quickly As I could. Overall, overcrowded and unsanitary what I would constitute as an unsanitary breading ground for germs and infection. I’ve never experienced anything like it in one of our NHS facilities. Terrible planning. I remember when the department was first opened and also it’s refit. The department was bright and aired I was always comfortable and happy to take my children or family members to accident and emergency. The physical restructuring has taken what was a modern and clinical area and, well, words fail me. I would however be questioning the decision makers. I feel incredibly sad for the staff. Every one I encountered yesterday were professional, efficient and working in unpleasant surroundings not to mention the impact on their own heath.
