  1. Review titled Caring and compassionate staff

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Bhinder Dhothar - Posted on 15 September 2023

From the quick response of call handlers to paramedics that arrived within 30 minutes to one hour. The call handler gave my husband the instructions very clearly and he remained calm - they had control over the phone to support. The paramedics asked which language the patient spoke - Punjabi we said. It would have really helped to have someone to explain what was happening, fortunately we were able to interpret for them as best as we could. The hospital waiting area was busy but the doctors and nurses, did not make any of us feel that pressure at all. Instead, they asked if we needed any chairs, kept us informed of the situation and the steps they thought were necessary like not having the monitors constantly making noise and making us all more anxious. The staff asked if we needed a drink, they told us all the information in detail. There were no sudden surprises and they were comforting us whilst also giving us the space around the bedside to be able to pray and be close. The private waiting area only had a few chairs and the coffee machines were out of order. The Costa had closed that was in the main entrance. It would have been very greatly appreciated if there were hot drinks available as the hours passed and somewhere it sit at this difficult time. Our family are very grateful for the support and compassion at a very difficult time. The non judgmental attitude of the nurses and doctors meant that our father had all the family at the bedside and a dignified final journey. Albeit very unexpectedly, we were kept informed of the situation and plans of treatment every step of the way. The nurse in Resuscitation area - a special thank you for making the family feel they could spend the few hours at his bedside- a true and genuine care and support at this very difficult moment. The call handler was very reassuring and gave my husband details of f actions and where to find the defibrillator if necessary. The paramedics for explaining the events and actions and any decisions that needed to be made were respected. The doctor that spent time with the whole family, explaining the situation. They were calm and patient as we interpreted for our mother, so she was aware exactly what we knew and could make an informed decision when required. This made the emotional and empathetic journey more manageable by being very caring and professional whilst delivering very difficult information. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. This experience is unique to this hospital and a credit to the NHS. This does set an clear example and role model behaviour for other hospitals, in my opinion.

  2. Review titled Appaling service

We came in with my mother to A&E at 11qm, Qt the time of writing were still sat in A&E 10 hours later. The last contact with a medical professional was at 4pm it's been 5 hours since a scan and we've had no update other than a receptionist saying she will be going to surgery. My mum is now stressed and panicking and shouldn't have been delivered this information by a none medical professional in the A&E waiting area. Having previously used both Halifax and Bradford this place makes them both look like 5 star resorts

  4. Review titled Not good experience

I had gallbladder keyhole surgery in August. When I arrived there before the surgery as normal they gave me socks and gown and ask me to wait in the waiting room. After signing the consent form when my turn came a nurse came to the waiting room and said it’s ur turn you can come with me. When we went to the operation theatre the other patient was still in the operation theatre. She asked me to wait one side and after 5 minutes they move the other patient from there and ask me to go in. They put another bed there and ask me to lie down on it and started the procedure. After the surgery when I woke up I was feeling very sick and dizzy. They asked me to eat something so they can send me home but I was being sick 4 times and then they gave me injection. I was still cell dizzy and couldn’t eat anything but after an hour nurse bring the discharge form and ask me to wait in the waiting room . I was waiting in the waiting room with sickness bowl and felt dizzy and my husband picked me up. There was no follow up appointment nothing after that.

  5. Review titled Help at hand

Rated 3 stars out of 5

Patients on a bed, in a cubicle or those who are alone in A& e should be offered a buzzer to call for aid. I attended with a family member however it concerns me if i was not their how the patient calls for help. I had to ask for a toilet whilst my family member was in a cubicle in emergency. They had no energy to shout and nor was anyone on close proximity i had to go and find someone some where and ask. A wheelchair toilet was left with us but i could not find anyone to ask to remove it. Point is any unwell patient should not be left unattended in emergency. A procedure should be in place for regular checks and more care support team hired to attend for this. I was in a situation where i could not weight bear and was alone in a wheelchair. I had no option to call for help for someone to wheel me to the toilets. Nhs should care for the patients who come in without any assistance or support more. It is part of your code.

  6. Review titled Excellent Care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Arrived at HRI at around 7.45pm. I was seen by the triage nurse within 5 minutes. The board stated treatment waiting times of around 2 hours; bloods were taken after about 45 minutes. Unfortunately I fainted so I was immediately taken to a cubicle to be taken care of. From start to finish every member of staff were courteous and caring, doing a great job in a very busy department. Discharged at around 2.45am having had many obs checks and a CT scan. Thank you to all.

  8. Review titled Attendance on night stated

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Pat Nimmo - Posted on 24 June 2023

I arrived at 8pm. and gave details of the reason. The reception was most kind. During my stay I was referred to the Triage Staff at the times noted on the timing board, and to the Doctor at only a few minutes after the time noted. During the time I was there members of staff wheeled me to the toilets when I asked, and were most pleasant about this. Naturally the wait was rather boring, but some magazines are available. I left at approximately 01.30 Thanks to all the staff.

  9. Review titled Cafe

Rated 1 star out of 5

I attended for an Xray on Monday 19th June. Afterwards I went with my Husband to the Cafe for a snack and a cup of tea. No teacups are now available and tea was serve in a disposable coffee mug. The Ham and Cheese toasted sandwiches were sloppy and tasteless, and thus vastly overpriced.

  10. Review titled Had two amazing mental health folk today.

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Sam Taylor - Posted on 27 May 2023

I am restarting my Sertraline subscription, and I was overwhelmed by the anxiety. I had no idea how to handle it, I was just pacing up and down the flat for days! I thought it might've been something I did wrong. I went to the A&E once and while the mental health nurse was pleasant, it didn't change anything about how I was feeling. I had these two amazing nurses who pulled me aside and told me exactly what I needed to hear. They were direct and honest, but in a compassionate way and one that I needed. Since coming home I've been putting into practice the skills they said I should, and already there's been such an improvement! I'm not cured, but I can ride out the anxiety a lot better now. I didn't catch their names because I was so hysterical, but thank you both so much. I'm sure I'll have worse days again, but I feel more confident than I can handle them.
