Review titled Efficient and caring
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 25 August 2023
I visited A &E yesterday, following advice from my GP. I arrived at 10 am and was all sorted by midday. The doctor I saw could not have been more caring and efficient. He had a really pleasant manner too which helped me to feel less stressed. The blood test results came back from the lab swiftly too. Both the nurse I saw for tests and the volunteer who found me a chair to sit by the door while I waited for transport, were friendly and helpful. I had dreaded the idea of A & E, but was very impressed. Thank you to all the hard working staff.

Following a traumatic accident at work I was brought into A&E fairly quickly. All staff involved in my care were really supportive and reassuring when I was in pain and in shock. I am extremely thankful for them helping to save my life and my arm

Review titled Outstanding staff
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Jane Spencer - Posted on 31 August 2023
I came in as an emergency, I had an open ankle fracture. Doctors and Nurses from the start were friendly and competent, they worked wonders, from ward 12 to the doctor who operated on me, and now as an outpatient to the fracture clinic. I want to say thank you to the staff at HRI, for the fantastic work they do, I really appreciate it.

Review titled Terrible experience in A& E
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Jackie Turner - Posted on 24 July 2023
Arrived at 4.00 am with an almost collapsing daughter. Triage nurse not aware that her veins had collapsed despite being told of her symptoms so fitting cannula was excruciating. Then there was no where to lie down to await the doctor. She had to lie on the floor but staff not happy with that and told her to move. She had to beg for pain relief. Saw doctor around 12 noon . Treatment didn't begin until after 13.00. Discharged around 15.45. long queue to pay for car park . There seems to be no clear triage system and night staff handed over 47 not seen patients to the day staff. Only 2 doctors on night duty All in all a most upsetting and painful visit. It took 12 hours for something that should have maybe taken 2.

Review titled Extraordinarily service

Ward 10. The nurses, cleaners, catering, doctors did their job with a smile and with respect for patients. Everyone could not do enough for their patients. Then taken to radiography, the doctor spent time explaining the procedure in detail. The other doctors, nurses radiographer made every effort to put me at ease. I cannot praise the staff highly enough for the care that they gave to me. They deserve great praise, at all levels, for their dedication, hard work and kindness.

Review titled Poor!!
Rated 2 stars out of 5

I was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday 18th July 2023, I was given a bed on the accurate assessment unit. I was moved upstairs to ward 500 on Wednesday morning at 7.30am in the morning and was put in a tiny room named the quiet room. I sat on a chair all day until 5.30pm when I was finally given a bed. I was told that people were waiting to be discharged and no beds fair enough, but why not have the patient that is being discharged a chair in the quiet room and just wait for discharge paper work ?? I can not tell you how draining it was sitting on a chair for 10 hours. Surely this could be looked into for future discharges. The care I received was good it was just the very uncomfortable chair I had to sit in all that time.

Review titled I was treated with the utmost courtesy and friendliness
by Woody Woodpecker 1921 - Posted on 15 June 2023
In June 2023 I had a large polyp removed in the Endoscopy Department of Hull Royal Infirmary. I was treated at all times by everyone on the staff with the utmost courtesy and friendliness. They kept me informed of the situation, there being a long delay caused by medial problems with the patient ahead of me. Once the procedure began I was most impressed with the skill of the Endoscopist who manipulated the equipment most delicately. The aftercare support was most welcome:- I even got chocolate biscuits as requested! Heartiest congratulations to everyone involved and very many thanks. It was almost a pleasure to have been there!

Review titled Disgusting
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Adrian - Posted on 16 June 2023
Visited female friends took card and flowers, got told flowers where not allowed because of pollen they can do any work on the HRI but inside its dull and miserable walls are mucky and marked no colour at all. For an hospital that as nothing cheerful about it and they have patients you would of thought flowers would be acceptable. When leaving a nurse just got picked up by partner I gave the flowers to her explained the situation and thanked her for the work she did but overall very disappointed in this hospital that just looks sad and miserable no colour and dull

Thank you for placing your posting on the Care Opinion website. We are sorry to read of your recent experience at Hull Royal Infirmary with regards to your gift of flowers. Whilst this would have been a most welcome gift for your friends, hospitals have discouraged friends and relatives bringing flowers into the hospital environment since 1996. This is due to the risk of spreading germs, (especially on wards where patients are particularly vulnerable to infection), aggravating allergies or creating more work for nurses and hospital staff. Please note that this decision has been made with the patients' best interests at heart. We will ensure your comments regarding the décor of the hospital are shared with the Facilities Department. In order to address the concerns you have raised, we would like to invite you to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) who will be able to take further details and advise accordingly.
