Review titled Disgusting
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Adrian - Posted on 16 June 2023
Visited female friends took card and flowers, got told flowers where not allowed because of pollen they can do any work on the HRI but inside its dull and miserable walls are mucky and marked no colour at all. For an hospital that as nothing cheerful about it and they have patients you would of thought flowers would be acceptable. When leaving a nurse just got picked up by partner I gave the flowers to her explained the situation and thanked her for the work she did but overall very disappointed in this hospital that just looks sad and miserable no colour and dull

Thank you for placing your posting on the Care Opinion website. We are sorry to read of your recent experience at Hull Royal Infirmary with regards to your gift of flowers. Whilst this would have been a most welcome gift for your friends, hospitals have discouraged friends and relatives bringing flowers into the hospital environment since 1996. This is due to the risk of spreading germs, (especially on wards where patients are particularly vulnerable to infection), aggravating allergies or creating more work for nurses and hospital staff. Please note that this decision has been made with the patients' best interests at heart. We will ensure your comments regarding the décor of the hospital are shared with the Facilities Department. In order to address the concerns you have raised, we would like to invite you to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) who will be able to take further details and advise accordingly. The PALS service can be contacted on: • Telephone: (01482) 623065 • Email: hyp-tr.pals.mailbox@nhs.net • Online: https://www.hey.nhs.uk/patients-and-visitors/feedback/ Thank you once again for taking the time to provide us with your views on local NHS services. Review titled Neurosurgery Hull
by Freddy - Posted on 21 June 2023
I have just read a previous post regarding Neurosurgery. My GP sent an urgent referral to the Neurosurgery. I am unable to find out when I am likely to get an appointment. I believe patients should be given some indication as to when they are likely to be seen.

Review titled Wonderful care and outcome
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Christine Wilson - Posted on 18 May 2023
I am so pleased with the results of my two eye operations - one to repair a hole in my retina when the lens was also replaced and the second for a cataract. The care was exemplary and the outcome has left me without the need for prescription glasses or contact lenses. I only need simple reading glasses and my eyesight was incredibly poor before. I have not seen this well for over 50 years!!

Review titled Decent experience
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 10 April 2023
All staff were very reassuring and stayed calm even when the alarms were sounding. We were offered a hot drink and communication was exceptional. The doctor we were with called us to the front desk to let us know that his shift was ending, and that he would hand us over to someone else. We really appreciated this as it felt as though we were being kept in the loop. The fresh air machines were very welcome!! Sometimes emergency departments can smell a bit strong, but the machines ensured there were no unwanted odours lingering. A nice touch! There is a staff notice board with the word "Polite" running vertically down the page and this is displayed opposite rooms 12 and 13; there are four spelling errors on it. We were seen very quickly all things considered, but we were waiting quite a long time for some ECG results. That aside, this is a very nice A&E department.

Review titled 11 hour wait!
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 19 April 2023
Got there early hours in the morning, my partner had bad chest pains. Was told it would be an 11 hour wait, hadn't managed to bring money with us so was unable to get food that whole time. Not enough available toilets (1 men, 1 woman, and 1 disabled) for the whole of the emergency department. In the disabled toilet there was no emergency pull cord either which is a big issue if a disabled person had an accident in the toilet. Then people was repeatedly called through the night, not just once or twice but nearly every hour on the hour when it was obvious they had left. Overall I understand people are there that could easily be seen elsewhere but those that can be seen elsewhere should be turned away at the reception. Patients who can eat should be offered some biscuits or a sandwich at regular intervals.
