This was my mother's third visit in roughly three months and I do not understand why on each visit we have to explain what medication she is taking. On one visit when I asked why this was not checked in her nhs records I was told there wasn't time for that. A lot of people would have no idea what medication their parents were taking.

Review titled Caring and respectful staff throughout
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Laura - Posted on 05 October 2023
My son was in a lot of pain and every member of staff we encountered was reassuring; introducing themselves and treating him with care and consideration. The doctor who treated him was very gentle and kind with him and explained what he was going to do before he gave treatment. The staff nurse was also lovely and accompanied us for x-rays etc. The paediatric waiting area was very clean and quieter than the main waiting room. This is our first visit to this hospital and it was far better than visits to the hospital we used to go to before we moved to this area.

I had elective surgery on 31st August and was in hospital for four days. From the moment I arrived, the care, kindness and friendliness was great, making what could have been a very stressful time much more bearable.

Review titled Good Practice
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Carol Goodwin - Posted on 10 September 2024
My first visit to this clinic. Despite sitting in a waiting room for an hour listening to the moans of patients expecting instant appointments my treatment was very well explained to me . I was greeted by a nurse on my arrival and came away with answers and very happy with my treatment.

I accompanied a sick family member taken to emergency by ambulance during the night. We were dealt with by a number of staff, including nurses, doctors and paramedics, all of whom were very polite, understanding and caring. Thanks to everyone for minimising the stress of such an experience.

Review titled Missing simple wins to improve
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 10 August 2023
There are some simple things that this a&e department could do to improve the service. 1) Name display on a screen. This is something they have at all doctors and is an obvious thing to have in place here to help with getting people to see when they are called. Many old people with less than good hearing, and the level of noise is always high. Time is wasted on patients being called multiple times because nobody can hear. A big screen with big text solves this problem. On this screen you could have a dashboard of how many people are waiting, avg times things like this. Keep people informed. 2) There needs to be a way for people to see what the wait times are, accurate times aren't possible but to give rough estimates to people and to keep them updated. Again, having this displayed somewhere would be extremely useful. This would additionally be really useful for people to be able to google before they come to a&e, people that don't need to come would be deterred if they saw how long the wait time was. 3) Proper triage. There were people that had been sent to a&e because they were waiting to collect scan results? Why an earth this would be the case I don't know, but this seems like a big waste of a&e time and space. There are so few chairs here that having them used up for non-emergencies seems silly. I think lots of people that go through a&e end up just waiting for scan results, having a separate area to wait for these makes a lot of sense. Anyone who is not in there because they are an emergency then move them out of the way. 4) Space. Whoever designed and signed off on the plans needs to go and see how little space there is. The whole walk-in area is cramped and there's not enough rooms to be seen in. This has created a huge bottleneck in the system where people are crammed into a small space and then there is not the capacity to get them through fast enough. 5) A pager system. A large amount of people in a&e don't have to be sitting in that room. Copy what restaurants do and give people a pager on arrival if they meet the criteria. They get told not to go too far, so they can go and sit in the gardens, sit in their car, go to cafe etc. 10 mins before their appointment they can get the call. Explain the rules before where if they are late they get pushed back in the queue. You could create a space outside where people could also go to wait, give them the pager. Have one of the large screens out there also. 6) The staff are amazing and very caring, they are being let down by the rest of the system. You can see how hard they are working and how tired they are. This is a list of a few things I thought of in my time here, some of them are surprising that they aren't already being implemented. (Also have a question on this review asking how likely I'd be to recommend this a&e to a friend ?? Very silly question, this isn't a breakfast cereal, its an a&e department. you wouldn't tell someone no to go to a&e)
