Review titled 3yrs waiting for operation
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 01 March 2024
I was told I may have Cholosteatoma back in 2021, although some consultants are reluctant to confirm a diagnosis. Told we will know once you’re in surgery. I’ve waited 3yrs for surgery. Lost 50% of my hearing. Daily symptoms have become unbearable. I can feel the damage this disease has done inside my ear and skull area. Left untreated this can cause sepsis, meningitis and even death. Keep trying to get an update from the secretaries to just be told “the hospital is busy, doctors have been on strike”. Everything has been wholly insufficient. I understand first hand the difficulty and pressures the NHS are under as I work in healthcare myself. But the treatment (lack thereof) I’ve received thus far is appalling. I am on the verge of loosing my job as I have had to take so much time off sick due to my symptoms, when I told the secretary this she wasn’t bothered. I’ve tried to update ENT with the worsening of my symptoms, again they are not bothered.

Review titled Comforting and supportive team

I was there for say surgery on some of my teeth. The anaesthetist and surgical team were so informative and supportive, I felt in the best hands even after I had a small panic attack before going under. For my first ever surgery I felt very safe and in the best hands.

I was seen very quickly in A & E after coughing up blood through the night. Chest X-ray was clear, as were all my bloods. Given a nebulizer to relieve wheezing and a spray for inflamation. Very sucessful outcome.

Review titled Wonderful service
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Tim Wetten - Posted on 14 March 2024
My experience of the James Paget Hospital Accident and Emergency was excellent. I walked into the A and E reception and was greeted by a nurse who listened to my problem. The nurse then asked me to register with reception whilst she booked me an appointment with the X-Ray department. I walked straight to the X-Ray Department and was called within two minutes. The X-Ray operator explained the proceedure in clear terms and allowed me to see the X-Ray image. I then returned to A and E reception to see a doctor. Again I was called within two minutes and the doctor examined me having reviewed the X-Ray image. The doctor told me what was wrong and gave me a wrist brace to support and protect my limb. I was advised about caring for my wrist and discharged. At every stage in the process staff were cheerful, professional and caring. It was such an amazing experience. I cannot thanks the team at the James Paget Hospital enough.

Review titled Lack of communication
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Albert Richards - Posted on 09 January 2024
I attended an oncologist review in 2022 having been referred for an anal fistula, large limp in the area and a swollen testicle. I was then given a date for a Mri scan but as things got worse and I was in considerable pain and bleeding I had to go to a&e. I received surgery for an anal abscess but nothing for the fistula and testicle. The swollen testicle was more and more uncomfortable and woke me from sleep several times a night and sitting in one position cannot be for long. Eventually last year I went to my GP again as nothing was heard. I was eventually was given an ultra sound and surplus liquid in the scrotum was diagnosed. I waited again and eventually the GP referred me back to the hospital and at the beginning of November last year I received a letter which said very little but to say if I heard nothing more to call a number but not before 3rd Jan this year. I called for hours but no answer at all so I phoned the exchange and was put through. I was informed that the referral had been sent to Urology for a face to face appointment but they had a waiting list of over 12 months. That is all I could be told and if I hadn't chased it up I got the impression that I would never had heard anything. Despite understanding the pressure the nhs is under I do not understand how it helps not to inform people of where they stand. It is very disappointing. I will carry on with the discomfort and see where I stand some time in the future, if I ever hear anything.

I attended the Northside MRI unit for a scan on my left ankle. This is a new scanning facility and is very impressive. All the staff were extremely courteous and friendly, yet very efficient. My appointment was on time; the entire experience was flawless. The radiology report arrived at my GP surgery very quickly. We are very lucky to have this service available to us.

Left waiting for over an hour for pain relief, before another 6 hour wait to finally see a doctor!! The doctor got my name wrong (bad start), before getting my medical details confused with someone elses!! They nearly rang someone elses next of kin for me!!

Review titled Just brilliant care

by Kevin Sanderson - Posted on 01 November 2023
I had a minor operation for an abdominal hernia today. I can’ praise the staff, organisation or facilities enough. All the staff were kind, understanding, patient and explained everything to me in words I could understand. Whilst having an operation is never great, they. Add the whole experience as good as it could be.
