Follow up appointment after kidney stones. My kidney function test came back fine. Very strange considering I have never had one. Still feeling unwell and Discharged without any medication, treatment, advice or testing.

Review titled Awful standard of care
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 21 March 2023
I arrived at 11.45am needing to see nephrology due to a suspected issue with my renal stent. Initially care was brilliant with triage and doctor consult happening within two hours. I was then told to wait for a specialist which could be a while. I waited another 11 hours without making a fuss as it was very busy. After 11 hours I asked someone to check what was happening to be told that I had been discharged without anyone telling me or without being seen by the specialist! I had waited all that time for nothing and with no pain meds. After another four hours I was finally discharged however with no resolution to my issue.

Had to attend the Endoscopy unit today for a colonoscopy, my experience can only be described as excellent, compassionate care from all the staff who put you completely at ease.

Review titled Disgraceful bed management
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 29 March 2023
Whilst the care for my elderly parent on the ward appears to be good it’s so hard being denied access for the last three weeks. Going into hospital with Covid as one of the symptoms of course led to necessary isolation and restrictions but it feels cruel to maintain the block on visiting by using the Covid recovered status to place others who are Covid positive into the bay. Ok so someone recovered from Covid is at less risk sharing that bay but the impact is the continued denial of visiting for a very confused older person who previous to hospital had daily family contact. How does this approach to bed management fit the values of the trust around compassion and person centred care. It’s just a convenient approach by those not directly involved in care of the patient. Such a sad position for patients lost in the system at KGH as a number not a person.

Attended A&E with abdominal pains, sickness and blood in stools Seen straight away. Issued with anti sickness & placed in a side room Constantly reassured & medics arrived to assess constantly Amazing considering the department was rammed. Staff are under pressure however it definitely didn’t reflect on my care. Admitted to Dean A who also outstanding Well done & Thankyou KGH

Review titled No response
Rated 1 star out of 5

Visited A&E with what turned out to be kidney stones. Was told I'd need a follow up 4 weeks later. Got an appointment through for 5 months later. Tried contacting the relevant departments ect. Can't get through at all. Calls aren't answered, messages aren't replied to and emails aren't replied to. Stuck in limbo in pain and ill health with no treatment.

I was referred from Corby Urgent Care. The Emergency Department Team worked tirelessly and efficiently, dealing with a packed waiting room. I cannot fault my treatment and wish to thank them, wholeheartedly, for everything they do.

Review titled Life saving !
Rated 4 stars out of 5

My husband had been experiencing chest pain for a couple of days, he attempted to see a Gp, and as is always the case, couldnt get a response when calling. I dropped him off at A&E on my way to work at 05.30am, by 08.15am he message me to say he had been to the cardiac centre and had a stent inserted following a heart attack! Super efficient service from start to finish. Though the main hospital is very dated and unappealing, the CCU ward is modern and welcoming. All the staff were extremely helpful and appear very knowledgeable. My husband is now on the mend, if i could make any suggestions, it would be to offer patients earplugs overnight, as the constant monitoring of patients heart rate etc leads to no sleep. Additionally, my husband was in a 4 bedded ward, with 2 other men and a lady. This lady needed to use a commode while i was there, and unfortunately, curtains are not sound proof. For the sake of the patients dignity, it would have been a good idea to wheel her into the bathroom next to her bed. On the whole though we was very happy with all aspects of my husbands care whilst in KGH.
