Review titled Kind, caring staff
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Barbara Kazwini - Posted on 31 August 2023
In these days when there is so much negativity about the NHS, I felt it only right to redress the balance. I had elective day surgery yesterday and every member of staff from the receptionist in the Admissions Unit, all the nurses, doctors, anaesthetists & ODAs that I met were kind, caring and professional. As a retired nurse who worked in the NHS for 46 years, I was very impressed with all the staff and the overall experience of something I was not looking forward to. When I started nursing, keyhole surgery was unheard of and I would have been in hospital for a week to 10 days for the same operation. Well done and thanks to the Day Surgery unit.

Review titled Exceptional care under stress

I was in A & E for 8 hours. From admin, nursing and doctors the care and attention was second to none. So caring devoted and helpful even if you have to wait due to the number of patients

Review titled Very disappointing service
Rated 3 stars out of 5

Previous appointments have me in and out within an hour. However, today I attended and from checking in to walking out of the treatment centre it was 2.25 hours. Quite why it was deemed sensible to begin a transfer from paper notes to digital without having at least some basic information already entered onto the system is beyond me, leading to long delays in the 'triage' stage of appointments and causing long delays and people getting annoyed at waiting. Indeed, I was at the point of walking out when called in for my 'triage'. When I was called in, the nurse doing my triage was in a bad mood, slamming the door to the room open and generally giving an air of not wanting to be there. And then we had to go through the palaver of everything being put onto the system without anything from my paper notes being on there already. The nurse did seem to cheer up a bit as the triage went on though. After having my dilating drops put in, it took 10 minutes to get called in for one scan and then 5 minutes wait for the visual field test. At no point was I warned that the eye clinic would need my glasses prescription so I didn't have my copy of it on hand which led to 10 minutes of them trying to work out my prescription before starting the test. What followed after that was another 30/40 minute wait to be seen by the Doctor. Indeed, people who were brought round after my appointment time had long passed were called in before me. Again, just as I was on the verge of walking out I was called in to see the Dr, who didn't seem to have a bedside manner at all and kept repeating the same thing. Also, whilst the waiting area had around 6/7 people waiting to be seen one of the rooms had a Dr and at least 3 or 4 people popping in and chatting. Laughter could be heard even over the TV and conversations between people. Apart from the issues faced today, there does seem to be a long term problem of booking ~5 patients in per Dr which means that there is always a delay in being seen. For a hospital that is supposed to be the best in the NHS Trust, the service seems to be declining.

Review titled CT Scan good experience
Rated 5 stars out of 5

Arrived early for 6pm appointment to hear people moaning about waiting times. By 6.05 I had been fitted with a cannula by a very pleasant young man who noted my fear of needles and put me at ease. I had to keep drinking water but the machine was broken and staff had to keep filling two jugs. They apologised but this added to their workload. Management please take note. The complainers had now disappeared. Within 15 mins I was called into a room for my scan which involved pumping a saline solution into my arm and filling my bladder before resting for ten minutes. The radiographer explained how I would feel and never left me alone in the room keeping me informed. I only waited about five minutes before the cannula was removed gently. Thank you. Much appreciated. Also appreciated my previous phone conversations with the urologist and his secretary when I was concerned about my holiday insurance cover. All staff were helpful and friendly. Perhaps signage near the hospital entrance could me more prominent as reception was unmanned at that time. A nurse leaving her shift pointed me in the right direction - down the stairs.

I went in for an inguinal hernia operation having waited “only” 7 months. The staff were kind and attentive, and aware I was nervous of the oxygen mask - they couldn’t have been more kind. Thanks to all.

Review titled Fantastic Experience
Rated 5 stars out of 5

Really wonderful experience in a calm environment, even though I had an emergency c-section. Excellent care from every single member of staff that I had contact with. The midwives made me feel calm and they genuinely seemed to care and to love what they do. The doctors and consultants were very professional, friendly and talked me through every step of my surgery. There was music, there was singing, there was a lot of happiness during the birth of my baby. We went home with our hearts full of joy. After a few days me and my baby had to be admitted again to treat his jaundice and the facilities were really good and we had a very comfortable room. The staff was once again wonderful. Thank you all for your hard work and kindness.

Review titled Disappointed
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Pauline Gailey - Posted on 15 August 2023
I received two letters in the same envelope 1 cancelling a up coming appointment the other giving me a new date. I had a text confirming the new appointment the day before. It was by telephone. I was ready and waiting for over an hour no phone call came. When I rang the next day to see what had happened I was told it had been cancelled . The lady I spoke to told me it had be logged as an unanswered call this is untrue as I was waiting for over an hour for the call to come through. I was told not to worry as they would send me a new appointment. The issue I have is that they canceled the call and blamed me . I do not want my record to say I was not available when I was waiting.
