  3. Review titled Impressive

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Called 999 when my partner, aged 75, fainted, hit his head when falling and was unconscious for around 10 minutes. From the 999 call to the paramedics that attended - so impressive! They carried out lots of tests, explaining to him as they did so, and made their decision to take him in quite quickly. Once admitted, CT scan immediately, visits from cardiologists, scans, heart monitor fitted and home in 3 days. Follow up appointment sent within a week. Absolutely no complaints!!! Oh, and apparently the food was good!

  4. Review titled Simply Awful

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Kellie - Posted on 29 June 2023

After my son was advised by 111 to attend Maidstone hospital due to some quite serious symptoms . I was completely shocked ! 9 hours of wait and no offer of pain relief or even a sick bowl . Receptionists were rude and had great pleasure in discussing & laughing about several patients. There’s was zero empathy , several nurses “oh not another one gave me no confidence in this hospital at all ! I see more security and police than I did nurses & doctors . For a young lad that was in pain and very unwell this was too much to bare especially when a nurse asks what you think the problem is ! Two hospitals , a visit to the GP and three days later we finally know what’s wrong , it wasn’t a minor ailment !! I have lost all faith, the care and compassion was non existent, we certainly will not be using Maidstone hospital ever again . Just the unwelcoming receptionists alone is enough to put anyone off . Never again !

  5. Review titled A&E Waste of time!

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 18 June 2023

I recently went to A&E with excruciating nerve pain in my right shoulder, neck, arm. I waited 2 hours for any pain relief. Kept saying someone was coming but didn't. Eventually gave me liquid morphine that had zero effect. Doctor wrongly diagnosed a possible rotator cuff injury but seemed junior with not much idea. She said she would bring a senior colleague but never did. All she did was send me for an X ray. When someone came round from the department to finc me they said we have been waiting 2 hours for you. Why didn't they walk round earlier and find out where I was. It was just round the corner to where I'd been sitting. There's me thinking they must be busy and waiting patiently so two hours wasted! When I went round to their waiting room there was blood on the floor by the seats. No sign of a cleaner. When I mentioned this to the radiographer she just said oh that must have been from last night! I was given a medicine for 4 days which my GP said would have made no difference to my pain as the dose was so low. Not a good experience. Will never take myself there again! 6 weeks later, still in pain and I am going for an MRI scan arranged by my GP. That at least will give me a true diagnosis!

  6. Review titled A lovely team

    by asteropexd66 - Posted on 28 June 2023

I attended the Peggy wood breast clinic yesterday after being referred by my doctor. I was obviously feeling extremely anxious but the staff were all so kind and positive, which is just what was needed. I was lucky to get the all clear but they spent time answering all of my questions in detail afterwards. An unpleasant experience made so much better by a lovely team 😊

  7. Review titled Fantastic staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Malcolm Crawford - Posted on 02 August 2023

On the 3rd June I attended oncology outpatients for a mrsa swab. I was unwell when I attended with difficulty in breathing and fatigue. The outpatient sister and nurses spent a lot of time with me arranging a number of tests before referring me to A & E, where I was promptly admitted to Lord North ward. The service I received in all departments was professional, caring and empathetic. I would say beyond what one might expect. Both outpatients and Lord North staff were excellent. I was eventually diagnosed with fluid on my lung and discharged after 11 days feeling much better following my experience with Maidstone Hospital. Thank you to all involved with my treatment.

  8. Review titled First class treatment

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Roger Bentley - Posted on 17 June 2023

Arrived 3.30pm with a head wound. Processed promptly through reception, triage, various tests followed by treatment in the care of a Practitioner who was professional, quick comprehensive and very thorough, taking time to explain the procedures. I’d like to thank all the staff in A and E for their first class work throughout, in particular the Practitioner who worked well beyond their shift to stitch me up

  9. Review titled Poor experience

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 30 May 2023

I recently attended a&e personally for first time due to severe pain for a week. We waited 4.5hr as busy so although frustrating/in pain I accepted this. Nurses kind during this time & did bloods. Saw a doctor for literally 2min. He didn't ask me or give me the opportunity to tell him my symptoms, did do very basic exam but felt like I was just a nuisance and he was trying to discharge asap. He said nothings wrong, take some antibiotics in case. When I tried to ask about ongoing pain as the only reason I presented was due to needing strong painkillers daily (which found at home luckily) he said continue. I am very disappointed and went home feeling upset, it was complete waste of time, nothing gained. I never attend hospitals/doctors because I am a doctor myself so often self-diagnose & allow things to improve themselves as don't wish to use there time unnecessarily. However, I attended this time as was generally worried about the severity and wondered if i needed further investigations / least rule diagnoses. If a thorough history/exam was conducted and nothing else needed I would have been reassured but the fact they didn't even know /care felt me feeling very worried & disheartening. To add, my family have attended this a&e in past and had good experiences & been treated well & we always praised the hospi tal including a&e. I think I got very unlucky this day with the specific doctor.

  10. Review titled Miserable uncaring staff

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 06 May 2023

Today I presented at the A&E Department with an eye infection/ cyst. I had previously seen my GP 6 days earlier, the infection had not largely improved. I was advised on the telephone the previous day by a member of staff in the eye clinic, the only possibility of an appointment with the eye clinic at the hospital was with a referral from my GP or present at A&E who should then be able to make a referral to the attached clinic. As my eye distortion/ disfigurement was causing me emotional distress, particularly as my work involves meeting a large number of senior business proprietors, I decided to travel 26 miles to the hospital. After the triage within the first 30 minutes, I waited 2.5 hours in the minor injuries unit, despite the presence of a white board in the waiting area there was no information displayed regarding wait time provided in the marked sections. I was then called into an anteroom where I was surprised that my appointment was with a nurse practitioner, not a doctor. I can see the benefit of this for minor injuries, however I was not greeted with any empathy or kindness and felt from the onset some hostility when I said' I thought I was being seen by a doctor'. The nurse made notes and examined my eye. I was advised that the eye clinic 'do not normally allow appointments with patients presenting with an eye cyst' and that the fact that it was effecting my work 'would not be considered'. I managed to press for a referral to the eye clinic and explained that if my eye was recovered, I would then be able to cancel the appointment. This has been an upsetting experience. This trust is graded as 'Requires Improvement', I am very surprised that the 'caring' category is graded by the CQC as good. I did not find that this was an experience that I could remotely remark as caring. Normally I would not waste my time writing reviews. This experience has prompted me to do so as the hospital needs to start thinking more about every patients experience.
