  1. Review titled Outstanding

by Chris Beattie - Posted on 20 March 2023

I just wanted to give a huge thank you to those who have helped me. I have been in extreme pain with my right knee since last October needing a crutch to walk any small distance. The knee brace fitted last Thursday has changed everything! I can now walk without the crutch and drive free of pain. I have slept better (having removed brace!) for the last 4 nights than the last 4 months. I am so grateful - thank you!

  2. Review titled Disappointment

by Anonymous - Posted on 25 March 2023

My GP practice referred me for an ultrasound. I attended for that and was pleased to hear everything was ok. However, the person who conducted my ultrasound was rude and quite obviously had no social skills. I've only have good experiences with Musgrove and this was the first time I had come across such a rude person.

  3. Review titled I couldn't thank the hospital and amazing staff enough.

    by Ash2023 - Posted on 07 March 2023

My 25 day old son who has multiple heart conditions was brought In via ambulance. (paramedics were lovely). Within minutes of arrival he was checked over and had nasal suctioning to ease his distress of having a blocked nose. Staff were lovely and caring, explaining what they were doing and why, they done swabs and checked his chest over. Only having a very short wait to find a bed we were transferred to the childrens ward where they attached him to a monitor to check his Sats. Within a couple of hours they told me my sons diagnosis. I am so impressed and grateful that they managed to tell us this within such a short amount of time. I couldn't thank the hospital and amazing staff enough.

Dear Ash2023 Thank you so much for your lovely feedback. I am very pleased to hear your son was cared for so well by the paramedics and the staff members in ED and the Children’s unit. It is such a stressful time when your little one becomes poorly and I appreciated this would have been heightened by your son having an ongoing heart condition. I am glad your son received such prompt care from our healthcare teams. I will share your thanks with all the paediatric staff members who looked after your son and the whole of the Children's unit. I will also pass on your thanks with the ED department. I am sure everyone will be delighted to hear about your feedback. Our staff members work so hard to provide the very best of care for our patients and families and they will be very appreciative of your kind words. Many thanks again Dr Holly

  4. Review titled Surgery first class

    by angelasprigg@live.com - Posted on 18 April 2023

Had Hammertoe and bunion surgery and removal of metal from other foot. Absolutely brilliant, made me feel at home. Surgeon and anaesthetist had answer to everything I needed to know and very friendly. I had total confidence in them. Such a positive experience. Now nearly five weeks after surgery and doing well. My care nurse in Parkside who was with me the most and who looked after me was such a lovely lady and very thorough. All staff were so good.

  5. Review titled The care she received was absolutely outstanding

    by Paulabee71 - Posted on 21 March 2023

My niece unfortunately had severe stomach pain. She was whisked through A&E swiftly and placed into a small bedded ward near to A&E. The care she received was absolutely outstanding. We were met with such care and compassion, all assets to the NHS. We then moved onto SDU, again met with outstanding care. She was then diagnosed with an appendicitis and had surgery. Afterwards she came back to Parkside. All the care she received from start to finish was exemplary, particularly as the junior Dr's were on strike, it must of been unusually hectic for them.

  6. Review titled Musgrove Paediatric

    by snowtk21 - Posted on 14 March 2023

I felt that the staff were generally good at looking after my child's immediate medical needs but for a paediatric ward they often didn't address them as a child or take time to explain what was happening to them in an age appropriate way. As parents we had to try and explain what would happen during the proposed scans/tests. Some (not all-some were clearly run off their feet) of the nursing staff appeared completely disinterested and unavailable when needed but could be seen sitting around talking to colleagues. Information provided in the rooms appeared to be contradictory to what actually happened on the ward making it quite a confusing experience for me. The uniforms were also confusing making it hard to tell which staff had which roles (unlike at other hospitals I have visited where posters clearly identify staff uniforms and roles). Communication with us as to what was happening/what the diagnosis might be was quite limited and our understanding of what was wrong relied on us asking questions. Breakfast was supposed to be brought between 7-8 but my child was never asked if they would like anything to eat before 8.30 (for some reason this seemed to be down to nurses rather than HCA's as I've experienced elsewhere) and then took time as other things cropped up on the ward. There was no way I could sort this for my child myself and didn't make the experience more tolerable for my child. Overall I felt that some of the staff were doing their absolute best given limitations and the play support was a surprising and valuable addition to a child's experience. It just rather like an adult ward, focused on medical necessity rather than one aimed at giving children the most positive experience of what could be a fairly traumatic time which I had imagined a paediatric ward might have more focus on.

Dear Snowtk21 My name is Dr Holly and I am one of the members of the Paediatric team who reviews patient and family feedback. I would firstly like to thank you for the time you have given to share your experience about your son’s stay with us. We are hugely appreciative of your feedback as it helps us greatly to improve our ongoing care. Tailoring our care, support and interactions with our children, young people and their families during their time with us on the children’s unit are hugely important to us and I apologise you and your child did not experience this during your recent time with our team. I am pleased to hear from you that our Play team were able to enhance your son’s experience during his admission - the play specialists are highly valued members of our team. On behalf of the Children’s unit, I sincerely apologise for the difficulties you experienced during your son’s admission. It has saddened me to hear you did not experience the care and support we aim to provide for our patients and families. When your child was admitted to hospital it would have been a hugely worrying time for you all, with further distress and understandable confusion experienced from a lack of clear and child friendly explanations given about your son’s treatment and information about the ward and its staff members. We have taken your feedback extremely seriously and your feedback was shared immediately with Dr Gita Modgil (our Associate Medical Director of Paediatrics), Suzy Mason (our Matron) and Caroline Jackson (our senior Ward Manger). Our team explored your feedback on the same day with colleagues on our unit and together we would very much like to address and improve our services based upon your feedback. Going forward, we shall share your story wider together with our clinical teams. We shall actively reinforce the importance of communicating with all our patients and young people in an age appropriate manner. We shall also endorse the importance of remaining consistently attentive and as prompt as possible to meet the needs of our patients and family’s needs during their stay. Currently, we are exploring and updating ways to improve how we provide information about the children’s unit in a clearer, more accurate and accessible manner, adapting this to reach all ages of children and young people as well as their families and carers. We can update you of the changes made via Care Opinion. If you, or your child, would like to actively be involved with these changes we would be delighted to work together with you. Finally, we would very much like to have a further conversation with you to explore your experiences further and any ideas that you may have to improve our care. Should you wish to contact us please email our Matron and unit manager directly via Suzy.Mason@somersetFT.nhs.uk or Caroline.Jackson@somersetFT.nhs.uk. Again, thank you for your feedback, we truly do appreciate you sharing your story with us. Yours sincerely Dr Holly Mincher

  7. Review titled Best hospital experience for years.

by Jeni Sayers - Posted on 17 April 2023

I had to suddenly have a raft of tests done, both at Musgrove itself, and at Blackbrook Park diagnostic unit. I cannot praise the staff at both these centres enough, both medical and administrative. The cleanliness was faultless in the areas I visited, so all I can do is say thankyou very much to both units, and add that I would recommend all the above to anybody who asked my opinion.

  8. Review titled Great Service

by Steve - Posted on 29 March 2023

I visited the Cardiology department on Tuesday 23rd March 2023 at 1330hrs. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with a friendly face and explained the process. Within 5 minutes I was with a nurse having tests which included blood pressure etc. I would like to say a big thank you to everyone in this department. Keep up the great work you are doing. Many thanks
