  1. Review titled Had bloods and x ray

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 23 June 2024

Had bloods and x ray done very quickly. After this was waiting for hours with so many staff just stood around on their phones or just generally stood around chatting. When asked about a time scale I was told ‘how long is a bit of string’

  2. Review titled Superb Surgical Admissions Lounge

Rated 5 stars out of 5

From first arriving at 7am the nurses doctors were fantastic they treat you surperbly with care and compassion. I cannot fault any of the nurses and care staff. Nothing was too much for them day or night and their care made my stay and treatment after operation in the Surgical Admissions Unit run smoothly. The doctors and anesthetist you could have a joke with which makes having an operation have less tension and are informed full details of operation and any complications that may happen even the 0.01%. I felt at ease for the waiting and operation and aftercare. All round care at Musgrove Park Hospital from admission to discharge was fantastic and the hospital should be so proud of all the healthcare workers and nurses, doctors and anesthetist they employ are fantastic and all score of 10/10 from myself. It all made my stay in hospital better and a lot of other hospitals I’ve been admitted to can learn from all the high calibre staff you have in these departments.

  3. Review titled Amazing experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Jo Butler-Daulby - Posted on 25 June 2024

Our daughter had major spinal surgery and was cared for on hdu and peads wards. The staff were incredible from start to finish, and made what was very daunting surgery much more managable. The orthopaedic consultants and anathnatisist were professional, supportive and warm ensuring the safest care for our daughter and exceptional post surgery support. Pre surgery we felt very uncertain and fearful, consultants and nursing staff spent time reassuring us and building on trust. The ward team were dedicated and genuine, offering support and continual care throughout our stay. I feel so fortunate to have been in the best hands and that our daughter's experience has been so positive given the enormity of the procedure. Thank you all so much, you are amazing 👏

  4. Review titled Scary experience left shaken

Rated 2 stars out of 5

Attended a&e at 2am and a very kind and calm receptionist admitted my partner who was in severe pain and struggling to breathe. I waited in the hallway with several others, one lady who was clearly in distress vomiting who begged for a place to lay down but was told there was nowhere. The other people next to me lay down on the hallway folding seats and slept. We waited for 5 hours for test results, the people around us who had all been admitted also were still there. By then my partner was exhausted and wanted to return home as the staff were all ignoring us. When we finally managed to catch a doctor to ask as we could see shifts were swapping over, we trie to ask as politely as we could as we know how overrun they are, whether we could see the results, this new doctor was immediately irate that we had the nerve to even ask such a thing. Angrily they told us many other people were waiting and we’d have to wait up to another 8 hours. He told us he’d skimmed the test results and nothing jumped out at him. So we decided to leave and try to follow up with gp. On our way out, the waiting room was completely empty without even a receptionist present. I am a supporter of the nhs but this experience really shook me. If my partner had been critical, I am not confident whether he would have been attended to properly. It’s really shocking the state of things, and even the attitude of the doctors even when patients try to be sympathetic. We have nowhere else to go!!!

  6. Review titled Painfree smear test

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Astrid - Posted on 22 May 2024

After I had a painful smear test at my GP practise some years ago which resulted in me getting a Urinary tract infection (first in my 50 years life!) I insisted to ask for a referral to a "professional" doing the smears forthwith. I just had mt 3rd smear at Taunton Musgrove Gynacology and for the 3rd time this was done without any complications, pains or even bleeding. Before it could get uncomforatble it was already over. The practitioners are very professional and comforting. They know exactly that none of us ladies has been born with a modell straight womb or genitals. They have daily practise on live individuals and not on puppets. There is a proper chair and everything is clean and sterilised. No urinary infection here! Being in the right hands here there is no need to fret about a smear test. 5 minutes and done, safe. Thank you, Musgrove Gynacology for your professional service and expertise!

I attended the Surgical Decision Unit at 9:00am having been referred from a local Minor Injuries Unit. From the time I arrived I was treated with kindness and patience. The treatment was outstanding. Very thorough. I cannot fault it.

  8. Review titled After waiting two years, for an appointment.

Rated 3 stars out of 5

I was relieved to finally be seen by the Rheumatologist who was very nice and helpful. However, I'm not happy about the length of time that it took for me to be seen. I have a progressive disease and should be monitored every 6 months, like I was at my previous hospital. There have been staff shortages and back logs which has probably contributed to the delay. In future, I will have to remind them to see me sooner. My Rheumatoid Arthritis, started over 20 years ago and was mis-diagnosed initially. The flare ups are very painful. I do understand that the Health Service needs more funding and adequate staffing levels.

From arriving at A&E at 6.30 am to having eye surgery at 6.30pm I received amazing care from all the nursing staff, doctors, surgeon, anaesthetist and ophthalmologist. I was treated with kindness and patience to answer all my questions in every interaction. Thank you to all the staff involved in my care.

  10. Review titled Lucky Man

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by John O’Grady - Posted on 06 September 2024

I’m a lucky man As he prepped me for major open surgery, the specialist who saved my life, urged me to tell my story about the NHS. The previous member of the vascular surgery team I had met with was the anaesthetist. My wife and I sat across the room from him a couple weeks earlier. While he studied his computer screen. He said “I never see people as fit as you in here” then he spun his screen around. Into a predictive algorithm had been entered the results of the many tests I had undergone. All the rows of data but one were coloured green. One was yellow. “It’s based on the traffic light system” he said. “We use it to predict whether or not you can survive the operation. Your odds of surviving the procedure are 80%” A triple A had been found 4 years earlier. AAA an abdominal aortic aneurysm. I had been scanned every three months ever since. It got slowly bigger and had reached the threshold of 5.5 cm. There no symptoms. You feel fine. I had already met the vascular team individually in a series of meetings. A lot of questions were asked. I was put through a battery of tests in the months leading up to this moment. ECGs, trips to the scanner to check my heart. Kidney function tests, lung function tests, cardio stress tests on a treadmill and more. Surgery was planned for April 10. I checked into Vascular on the day scrubbed and fasted. The surgeon came out to meet me and said that my operation could only proceed if they had a bed for me in the CCU. The Critical Care Unit, at that moment he wasn’t sure. I filled in yet another form and waited with my wife who had taken every step of the journey with me. A little time passed and Mr E led me away. The preparation for this operation had taken months but there was no more time to delay. Mr E is a direct speaking man. He had told me that if the aneurysm burst even if I was standing in front of him in the hospital he couldn’t save me. Everyone I met throughout this process had been warm, kind and considerate. A totally professional and it turns out world class surgery team. I woke up 6 hours later in Intensive Care with tubes and wires going in and out of me. The first face I saw was one of the surgical team, a lovely young woman, smiling at me and asking me how I felt. She said that the surgery had gone really well and I wouldn’t have to worry about the AAA again. My whole experience was fantastic. All the doctors and nurses I met could not have been kinder or more professional. I told Mr E this and he asked me to tell people how wonderful my experience with the NHS had been. I had world class treatment. I could never have afforded to pay for it in any other country. For the rest of my now extended life I will be so grateful for the care and support of the front line people of our NHS. It doesn’t get any better anywhere. Thanks most of all to the NHS Musgrove Park Hospital Vascular Team. The best!
