  1. Review titled Outstanding care and practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Helen D. - Posted on 14 March 2024

Booked in for minor hand surgery at the Hand Centre. This is a relatively frequent occurrence for me, I see the same surgeon every time at Sheffield hand clinic and she is the warmest, caring professional. I trust her totally, her clinical expertise is complimented by her ability to treat her patients with empathy and humanness in an environment that often reduces patients to a purely medical condition. I can’t sing her praises highly enough. 5 star care every time

  2. Review titled Appalling experience of pharmacy

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Martin hellawell - Posted on 06 March 2024

My 88 year old father in law was told he could leave but pharmacy had to dispense some tablets he already had. We waited four hours with a distressed man . This is just not good enough as we were holding a bed that could have been used

Thank you ever so much for taking the time to share this feedback about your father-in-law's recent admission. We are sorry to hear about the difficulties with discharge that you experienced and the delays this caused to your father-in-law getting home- we appreciate how frustrating this must have been. There is a project team in the Trust who are currently undertaking a piece of work which is looking to standardise early discharge planning including the prescribing of TTO’s (your medications to take home) in a timely manner. We have shared your feedback with the team involved in this project so it can be taken into consideration as part of the work that this group are doing. I hope that this provides you with assurance that we are proactively looking at how to improve discharge planning to help patients get home once they are told they are able to be discharged. If you wish to follow anything related to this matter up, please contact our PALS team on 0114 271 2400 or by emailing sth.pals@nhs.net. The PALS team will ask you to share some personal details in order for us to investigate this matter for you.

Thank you ever so much for taking the time to share your recent experience of attending our A&E department. We are sorry that you experienced a very long wait for to be seen when attending the Emergency Department. Due to the nature of an Emergency Department, service delivery will be variable due to capacity, demand and clinical acuity, and during December we have experienced very high patient numbers to see. The sickest patient will always be triaged to be seen first. We endeavour to keep all patients up to date with projected waiting times and offer alternative options to be seen through our streaming and triage services if we feel a more appropriate option is available for timely patient review. There are other streams for receiving care and treatment for non-urgent medical issues, such as the GP Collaborative service which offers out of hours appointments (6pm-8am on weekdays and 24 hours over Weekends and Bank Holidays), offering treatment for patients with minor or less urgent illnesses, and the Walk In Centre on Broad Lane in the City Centre where advice and treatment can be accessed, which is open from 8am- 10pm every day. We also have an Emergency Eye Centre which, although was not open at the time you said the issue began for you, may be an option to attend during the day if you require emergency care for your eyes. If you are experiencing an immediate medical issue which is not an emergency, you can call 111 for advice on the most appropriate service to access. If you wish to follow this up, please contact our PALS team on 0114 271 2400 or by emailing sth.pals@nhs.net. The PALS team will ask you to share some personal details in order for us to investigate this matter for you.

  7. Review titled A&E staff fantastic service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Colleen Bates - Posted on 17 January 2024

I had to visit the A&E on the 16th January 2024. From Receptionist to nurses, porters, xray staff, to Dr's, I can't thank you all enough for the care I received last night/morning. The nurse that had to deal with an abusive male dealt with professionalism and patience, most visitors in A&E were shocked by the way he was conducting himself shouting and swearing, til security escorted him out and eventually police had to be called. This is disgusting to see especially when staff were there to help people not to be abused. I wish to thank everyone involved with my care on the aforesaid night/morning, I can't thank you enough for all you do for my care , Thank you

  8. Review titled Department well organised

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 19 January 2024

We found all staff in the Hand Clinic were very pleasant and explained the steps of the treatment and after care. It was an added bonus that the receptionist had a system which enabled her to get us a taxi to the station. We had been referred from an out of town A & E and were unfamiliar with the Northern General site. It was particular helpful to find that the Hand Clinic has a huge Hand on the side of the building. A brilliant idea and I suggest that other buildings on the site could benefit from this idea.
