Review titled Amazing staff
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by kenzie - Posted on 25 January 2024
I first came into the labour and delivery ward i didn't feel like i was listened to and was told i couldn't have the gas and air even though i had been given oramorph and that hadn't worked for me u til after i gave birth. the lady said i couldn't have it until right near the end of her shift after me begging for the gas and air. however when my other midwife came in i felt listened to and heard. she stayed in the room to see how my contractions were and knew when i needed to push just by the sound i made. she also explained everything that was happening throughout the labour as things got quite scary quite fast but she made sure that we was kept in the loop. she also made sure my mum was okay when it got all full on and worrying. i cannot fault my second midwife at all she's an asset to the labour and delivery. i cannot sing her praises enough. she also explained to me what had happened throughout the labour once she had taken me up to the ward as i didn't really know what was happening so she made sure i had a clear idea of what had happened and answered all my questions no matter how stupid they was. i felt so much more relaxed when i had the second midwife as she made sure everyone in the room was okay and made sure me or my mum didn't panic at any stage. she also knew how to make the situation seem less scary with a few jokes here and there which made everything feel so much better for my mum. she explained everything carefully and throughly to my mum whilst everything was happening. she made sure it was a stress free as she could make it and listened to what i wanted and said no matter how stupid it sounded. could sing her praises all day i really could

Review titled Couldn’t fault the labour ward
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Holly - Posted on 05 October 2023
The one to one care through the whole labour was incredible all midwives were beyond what I imagined, I was especially impressed by the student nurse on my delivery! However post birth is where the care slipped and I probably needed the support the most in hospital post C-section.

Review titled Speedy, clear and thorough process
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by john partridge - Posted on 10 August 2023
Received a letter after my bowel swab telling me I needed colonoscopy to investigate. From date of notification to date of procedure it was just over two weeks. All staff involved were clear, thorough and professional. Pack info was clear to understand but I got a call the day before the procedure to check I understood and was following the prep stages. Only glitch was how long I had to wait after the specified appointment time. Would have been good to have been told at reception of a delay. The consultant and team who conducted the procedure were fantastic. Clear explanation and empathy throughout. It’s a worrying procedure so their approach was really appreciated

Review titled You feel treated as an individual
by Graham928 - Posted on 11 August 2023
I was on Lister 1 Ward, City Hospital, Nottingham for my regular fortnightly visit for cancer immunotherapy treatment. The atmosphere on the ward is warm and friendly due to the attitude of the team. Team members have changed over the time I have been attending and obviously vary due to shift patterns but they all are wonderful. You feel treated as an individual and time is spent to make the whole process as easy as possible. I am so grateful to all, nurses and fellow patients for making what can be and is a very difficult time for all as pleasant as possible. Thank you.

Review titled The care I have had is a credit to the NHS
by JLH72 - Posted on 06 October 2023
In March 2023 I was admitted to Nottingham University Hospitals, City Hospital. Within 24 hours I was diagnosed with blood cancer and began chemotherapy 4 days later. My treatment continued for 5 months as an inpatient on Fletcher Ward, with brief periods at home in-between each cycle. This has been an extremely difficult time for me and my family, but the care and treatment I've received has been excellent. From day 1, the medical team have been kind, compassionate, and honest, taking the time to help me understand my illness and treatment. I continue to see my consultant and her colleagues in haematology outpatients, where the same level of respect and patience continues as I navigate my recovery journey. Throughout my time as an inpatient, the nursing and support staff have been exceptional, supporting me and my family through the darkest times, and smiling with me during happier moments. They've acted with tremendous professionalism, reacting swiftly and calmly when I've become unwell, treating me with dignity and respect at times when I was unable to care for myself. Even when short staffed, they remained calm and responsive. A cancer diagnosis is a terrifying and confusing experience, having a huge impact not only on me, but on my family. The treatment itself was at times extremely challenging, and there were moments I thought I couldn't go on. But with the support of staff, including two leukaemia clinical nurse specialists, I completed my treatment, forever indebted to those who took the time to sit at my bedside, providing emotional support. I was also referred to the clinical psychologist and complementary therapist, both of whom spent time with me, helping me make sense of my diagnosis. As a long term inpatient, the catering and domestic staff were a welcome and friendly face each day. It's surprisingly heartwarming when someone remembers how you take your tea without having to ask. Similarly, the porters who ferried me around the hospital were largely friendly, helpful and respectful. As an outpatient, I continue to feel supported and encouraged by the haematology team, both in outpatients and the daycase unit. The phlebotomy staff in haematology outpatients are friendly and kind, seemingly undaunted by the packed waiting room. Doctors and nurses who treated me as an inpatient always ask how I'm doing if they see me, and my nurse specialists have been so patient and supportive, answering my many questions and helping where they can. I have nothing but praise for the care I've received from the whole haematology team. Our lives have been turned upside down, but we've been treated with dignity, respect, and kindness throughout, making this challenging time more bearable, and for that I'm eternally grateful.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share with us such an amazing insight into your patient journey throughout our hospitals. We are very aware that this can often be very challenging emotionally and psychologically for patients, so, we really do value positive and negative feedback. This is not only to ensure that we continue to improve the quality of care we deliver, but also that the team are able to see the positive results of their continued hard work and dedication to their patients and carers. We are truly humbled and will pass this on to be shared far and wide with staff who were involved in your care. We are extremely proud of and them and this story will not only boost morale but ensure that they are reminded once again of how important the work that they do means so much to our patients. This story and your feedback is also invaluable and will help countless others facing the same challenges as you to gain some reassurance of what they can expect during their treatment with us. Wishing you all the best for the future. Kerry Hawke and team.
