  1. Review titled The care I have had is a credit to the NHS

    by JLH72 - Posted on 06 October 2023

In March 2023 I was admitted to Nottingham University Hospitals, City Hospital. Within 24 hours I was diagnosed with blood cancer and began chemotherapy 4 days later. My treatment continued for 5 months as an inpatient on Fletcher Ward, with brief periods at home in-between each cycle. This has been an extremely difficult time for me and my family, but the care and treatment I've received has been excellent. From day 1, the medical team have been kind, compassionate, and honest, taking the time to help me understand my illness and treatment. I continue to see my consultant and her colleagues in haematology outpatients, where the same level of respect and patience continues as I navigate my recovery journey. Throughout my time as an inpatient, the nursing and support staff have been exceptional, supporting me and my family through the darkest times, and smiling with me during happier moments. They've acted with tremendous professionalism, reacting swiftly and calmly when I've become unwell, treating me with dignity and respect at times when I was unable to care for myself. Even when short staffed, they remained calm and responsive. A cancer diagnosis is a terrifying and confusing experience, having a huge impact not only on me, but on my family. The treatment itself was at times extremely challenging, and there were moments I thought I couldn't go on. But with the support of staff, including two leukaemia clinical nurse specialists, I completed my treatment, forever indebted to those who took the time to sit at my bedside, providing emotional support. I was also referred to the clinical psychologist and complementary therapist, both of whom spent time with me, helping me make sense of my diagnosis. As a long term inpatient, the catering and domestic staff were a welcome and friendly face each day. It's surprisingly heartwarming when someone remembers how you take your tea without having to ask. Similarly, the porters who ferried me around the hospital were largely friendly, helpful and respectful. As an outpatient, I continue to feel supported and encouraged by the haematology team, both in outpatients and the daycase unit. The phlebotomy staff in haematology outpatients are friendly and kind, seemingly undaunted by the packed waiting room. Doctors and nurses who treated me as an inpatient always ask how I'm doing if they see me, and my nurse specialists have been so patient and supportive, answering my many questions and helping where they can. I have nothing but praise for the care I've received from the whole haematology team. Our lives have been turned upside down, but we've been treated with dignity, respect, and kindness throughout, making this challenging time more bearable, and for that I'm eternally grateful.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share with us such an amazing insight into your patient journey throughout our hospitals. We are very aware that this can often be very challenging emotionally and psychologically for patients, so, we really do value positive and negative feedback. This is not only to ensure that we continue to improve the quality of care we deliver, but also that the team are able to see the positive results of their continued hard work and dedication to their patients and carers. We are truly humbled and will pass this on to be shared far and wide with staff who were involved in your care. We are extremely proud of and them and this story will not only boost morale but ensure that they are reminded once again of how important the work that they do means so much to our patients. This story and your feedback is also invaluable and will help countless others facing the same challenges as you to gain some reassurance of what they can expect during their treatment with us. Wishing you all the best for the future. Kerry Hawke and team.

  5. Review titled Fantastic care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Gemma Birtwistle - Posted on 25 July 2023

After a long labour with our first child I just had to leave a review for all the amazing midwives, consultants & anaesthetists who looked after us. The care we received was exemplary, compassionate and respectful to our wishes. We saw a lot of shift changes being in labour for a long length of time and everyone who looked after us was just fantastic. I wanted to say a massive thank you particularly in light of the bad press they are all receiving at the moment, you all do such an amazing job, Thank you all from the Birtwistle family.

  7. Review titled The treatment I received from both hospitals was outstanding

    by zebrakz66 - Posted on 09 June 2023

I had 2 teeth out and unfortunately I got a dangerous infection. My husband got me to Lincoln Hospital, which treated me amazingly. After having x-rays, my throat was closing up. They red lighted me to Nottingham Hospital. When I arrived in Nottingham they had Doctors and Surgeons waiting for me and they quickly put me to sleep and operated on me straight away. I was in ICU for 3 days and then I was put on a ward for a further 4 days. The treatment I received from both hospitals was outstanding, from the Doctors, surgeon and most of all the Nurses. I was treated by both Hospitals - Lincoln and Nottingham - with so much care. I knew they had saved my life because I could of died if they hadn’t of dealt with me so quickly. I can’t thank them enough for their support and care I received from Lincoln and Nottingham Hospitals.

  8. Review titled We couldn't have asked for better care

    by violetqb94 - Posted on 11 April 2023

I would just like to say Thank you to Nottingham city hospital ultrasound department. I attended at the start of April 2023 with my husband as he was having Ultrasound. I want to say thank you to all the staff you went above & beyond to make sure we were looked after and because we had travelled by ambulance from another city. One of the nurses went out of her way to make sure that we were given sandwich & drink. You are all so caring. We couldn't have asked for better care, so thank you to all of you.

  10. Review titled Amazing support from labour and maternity services

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Katie Williams - Posted on 05 May 2023

I experienced consistently great care both in Labour Suite and Lawrence ward. The midwife caring for me in labour was amazing, caring, supportive, professional and encouraging. All members of staff from birth to discharge were fantastic. I felt like they had time for mine and baby's needs, and supported me quickly to feed my baby. The midwives on Lawrence always took time to introduce themselves at shift change, and consistently checked in on me and baby during the first day and night, offering any support I needed. This made me feel cared for and greatly reduced anxieties about spending the first night with my new baby. Any concerns I had were taken seriously and responded to promptly and appropriately. I feel grateful that I was enabled to have such a positive experience of labour, birth and the first day and night as a new mum. Massive thanks to maternity services.
