  1. Review titled Awful service

Rated 2 stars out of 5

My partner was admitted 4 times to ED in a week for tonsillitis and a quinsy, extremely unwell. Kept getting sent home, no beds, dr strike. Lost 4kg between admissions in 3 days, told the nurse whilst admitted to a ward about frequent urination and thirst she said it was down to steroids. He has now been diagnosed with life changing Type 1 Diabetes and cannot help but think if he was treated appropriately and monitored on first attendance this may have been avoided.

  3. Review titled Very caring staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I had a hernia operation at a private hospital in Reading which was successful but had a bad reaction afterwards. I was discharged but deteriorated rapidly afterwards and was taken by ambulance to the Royal Berks A&E department. I was seen very quickly and transferred to a ward in the surgical unit where my condition was assessed and treatment given. The level of care was amazing, I felt so looked after and considering the number of people they see and pressure they are under, they made me feel special. I was regularly checked through the night and they were so caring. For me that is what it's all about, the quality of the people and feeling safe and cared for. Thank you.

  4. Review titled Urology “One Stop Clinic “

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Thomas Lanham - Posted on 29 January 2024

I’m on my 5th appointment at the Urology Clinic. I was referred at the end of August 2023 to the urology one stop clinic. I have appointment next Saturday 3/02/24. I’m still 2 appointments away from any treatment. That means at least 6 or 8 visits to the rbh hospital One Stop Clinic is a total joke. At my first appointment I saw a consultant (Vitalis) who told me other appointments would follow. I thought one stop clinic. There was one doctor and one nurse in the clinic. I was the only patient there. No other treatments on the day. At this appointment I informed the doctor they I was not available for test until after 19/12/2023. I later received a letter asking me to attend an appointment on 16/12/2023. Even at this early stage of my experience of Oncology at the RBH I was starting to worry that the left hand didn’t know what the right hand was doing. One stop clinic I don’t think so.

  5. Review titled Calling

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Len - Posted on 01 February 2024

I attend with my wife at A&E on 31 January. Couldn’t fault the care and attention we got. We did find that it was very hard to hear your name being called and we were told we’d missed one call. The same thing happened when I attended a few months earlier which caused us a one hour delay Our doctor’s surgery has an easy to read display showing who is due to be seen next. Why can’t this be done in A&E?

Dear Len, Thank you so much for your feedback and sorry for the delay in responding. We have been liaising with the Accident and Emergency department and they have responded with the following feedback: We will feed this back to the team at our safety huddles (daily meetings) and suggest that staff may need to walk away from the door and further into the waiting room (if they don't already) to make themselves heard. Reception and triage are very good at putting notes on patients' records to alert clinicians that patients may be deaf, immobile, elderly or on their own, etc. which does help. Thank you for raising this important question. It will help improve the service for other patients. Best wishes, Patient Experience Team

Admitted for Covid and Pneumonia treatment over Christmas. Spent the holidays on the ward on IV and oxygen support. Amazing care, consideration, humour (!) and professionalism shown by all those I encountered. Hugely grateful to RBH and NHS.

  8. Review titled Administration

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by pearl clarke - Posted on 30 March 2024

For the last five years I have seen a consultant every six months because I have a condition that needs to be monitored. However I found out last October that I had been discharged without notice, I did not discharge myself and my follow up appointment cancelled, again without notice. I have been waiting since last December for a review of my referral from my Doctor. I waited until 14th March when I was told to contact referrals. I was told I was not on a waiting list and would not get an appointment, even though the secretary of my previous consultant said I was on his waiting list. Now I am advised there is another review and if I do not hear by the 17th May I have to ring again. - What Is going on? I have heard absolutely nothing. Three months have gone by. It is not up to the consultant to make appointments, it is up to the administrators to keep patients informed. I did make a complaint and I am thinking this is personal even though I was assured making a complaint would not affect any treatment.

  9. Review titled Care and treatment

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I was taken to A&E after a fall in my garden, when I sustained a heavy blow to my head. I was booked in within two hours of the fall, and received such careful and considerate treatment that even the expected long wait didn’t seem too bad. I left reassured that I had done no serious damage. Thank you to all the staff who treated me for their kindness and courtesy.
