Review titled Excellent scanning department staff
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Penny Hornsey - Posted on 26 May 2023
I had to have a CT scan followed by an MRI I have severe scoliosis and I’m not able to sit for more than 10 minutes, stand or walk very far. The staff in the CT department put me in ahead of the queue as there was nowhere I could lie down. Then I went to the wrong MRI department, when I explained my situation they decided to do the scan there and put me on a trolley in a side room to wait. I have awful claustrophobia so had some sedation. The staff were so kind to me and took me in for the scan on the trolley. For the duration of the scan they constantly checked that I was feeling ok. I am very grateful to both departments for treating me with respect and kindness.

Review titled dermatology procedure
by Valclair - Posted on 31 May 2023
I had 2 x basal-cell carcinomas removed from my face. I cannot fault the reception, efficiency of sending appointments, the explanation of the procedure on the day and in advance in writing, personal and mental comfort during the procedure, discussion of aftercare. My only suggestion is that a strip of muslin or lightweight cotton be used to secure the hair away from the face before the application of the extensive micropore dressing. Micropore stuck to the hair is not a good idea because (a) the hair moves so the dressing is not so secure as if it was only stuck to the skin and (b) the micropore is reluctant to give up its "catch" of hair, causing a lot of unnecessary discomfort when the dressing is finally removed. If I had appreciated the problem in advance I would have taken a stretchy Alice band"with me, though this would be no use for the department to supply as probably not able to be disinfected [Very happy with 'Treatment']

Hello Valclair Thank you for getting in touch with us and leaving a review. We can only make changes to our practice if we know where we can make an improvement. I am glad you had everything explained and we are always happy to answer any questions before or after your appointment as we know it can be a very nervous time for patients and their family. Where a dressing is going to be affected by the hairline we try our best to not stick anything to the hair and sometimes suggest removing a little bit of hair to help. We usually suggest that when the time comes to remove your dressing then taking it off in the shower after getting it very wet will help. I'm sorry this information was not given to you and its now a little late. We have in the passed purchased hairbands/alice bands and slides to help with controlling hair but as you said these are a single patient only use and it can become costly. We will put our heads together at the next staff meeting and see if we can come up with a cost effective solution for securing hair especially when it comes to the dressing. I hope you are recovering well and thank you again for the feedback we appreciate it.

Review titled Thank you very much for making this an almost pleasant experience
by Aqua lady - Posted on 12 May 2023
I had a hysteroscopy today, the nurse and student nurse who called me in were super friendly, made me feel completely at ease. The student nurse took my BP and heart rate, the nurse talked me through the procedure what would happen and what could happen. Told I could feel some twinges and period-type pains, I would also have a local anaesthetic in the vainal area. I put on a gown with modesty gown for the back and walked to the room where I met the surgeon, again he talked me through it and then I sat in a chair with foot rests there were two other friendly nurses in the room too. Each one had their own job to do. The chair was raised and and tilted back I had a hot water bottle on my tummy a sheet place over my knees and my knees apart. I could have had gas and air but didn't need it. There were a few tweaks when the biopsy was taken and a very slight pain but that was it . Great care was taken of swabs etc to make sure nothing was left inside . All very professional and the nurses made it very easy and lighthearted, I applaud them. I felt fine after and went out for lunch. This evening I have a very slight period type pain, but nothing I can't handle . Altogether it was easy, not embarrassing at all and nothing to worry about at all. I could even see inside me on the screen. Thank you very much for making this an almost pleasant experience.

Dear Aqua lady Thank you for taking the time to post feedback about your hysteroscopy. I am always glad to hear that patients have found the team to be so friendly, and able to put people at ease. It is also always good to know that such care was taken with the procedure, including the pain relief available, and that the process was not at all embarrassing for you. Our team works hard to try and minimise any worry or anxiety for their patients, and to make them feel as comfortable and informed as possible during any procedure, and they very much appreciate all feedback. I will ensure that your kind words are shared with them. Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience and I hope that you have a positive outcome following your procedure. Review titled Night shift workers terrrible
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 16 April 2023
Was admitted to A&E mid morning with heart issues, the nurses and doctors attended to me with courtesy and professionalism, I was moved to another part of A&E and put on an intravenous drug drip, and was told this would take 2 to 3 hours. By this time the night shift had taken over and the whole experience went downhill i observed nurses shopping for clothes on their nhs laptops and several doctors belittling patients behind their backs, who were crying for their assistance. After being in this dept 7 hours I asked to see a doctor to explain my condition, to which they replied, " I don't know your doctors gone home, I don't know you" !!!!. I asked about my condition and was told again, " I don't know who u are, I've only just met you". I said I'm not happy and another more senior doctor came over saying if you don't like it here, discharge yourself. I was absolutely gobsmacked. I did as he requested and left not knowing if I required further medication and/or I was ok. The doctors and nurses on the night shift were completely clueless and were more interested in shopping and acting the fool with each other. Shameful.

Review titled The care my elderly mother received
by Another Cornishman - Posted on 27 April 2023
The 111 phone service was contacted by me regarding deterioration of my mother, who is in my care at my home. After describing symptoms with 111, it was decided by the call handler to order a category 1 ambulance. The crew were diverted to us, arriving within 15 minutes, where they were both professional and good. We travelled quickly to Treliske hospital, Truro, whereupon my mother (in her 99th year) received excellent care and professional attention both from A&E staff and further ambulance crews over approximately 7 hours until a ward bed was located for my mother. My mother continued receiving excellent care and attention throughout her stay at the hospital right up until I was able to return her to our home - where she continues to make slow, steady progress. I am particularly happy with the treatment and care given by all staff at this hospital toward a lady in such mature years.

Review titled The staff could not have done anything more for me
by mercuryek76 - Posted on 27 July 2023
The doctor knew that my cataract is in my right eye, and it is to be removed under a general anesthetic, he wrote on my forms left eye and local anesthetic. Thankfully, the amazing nurse picked up on this and corrected it. On my patient copy, it says general and left eye. The staff could not have done anything more for me, they were amazing, even the Doctor. He know what I needed, he just wrote it down wrong.

Dear mercuryek76, Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback for the Eye Unit. I am very sorry to hear that there was a mix up with your documentation, but I am delighted to hear that the nurse picked this up and highlighted it to the doctor to get it corrected. Our staff really try their best but are under a lot of pressure, so thank you for recognising that there are amazing, and any near misses were avoided! I will pass your kind words back to the team, Kerry Trembath Senior Staff Nurse Ophthalmology
