  1. Review titled Recent admission to Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital

    by plutocz84 - Posted on 08 December 2022

Following a fall at home, I needed to go to A&E and was subsequently admitted to Durbin Ward for shoulder replacement surgery. I just want to say a massive thank you to ALL the staff at every level. Everyone was so kind, while clearly under massive pressure. I hope my thanks can be passed on via this website as I can't find anywhere on the hospital website where I can do this.

  2. Review titled Long queues and machines out of order

    by velazg99 - Posted on 07 November 2022

I have been so upset. The RDE hospital is a wonderful place. Staff are lovely. However after visiting my dad I have been so stressed getting my car out of the car park. I was charged more than £10 for a 2 hour stay as they hadn't taken photo of car leaving car park the day before. My daughter sorted it out on the phone after 30 mins and I didn't have to pay. My point is there are loads of people having similar experiences. Machines out of order!!! Long queues which mean you go to next pay band. I met an elderly lady who said the machine had taken her money but did not record it, a gentleman tried to pay on his card but machine wouldn't take it. People are stressed with visiting their loved ones they do not need this as well. Reception staff getting loads of complaints too. I do hope you can address this issue.

  3. Review titled Fantastic Service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Martyn Smith - Posted on 21 November 2022

I was diagnosed with bowl cancer. Within 7 weeks of the initial diagnosis, I had met with the cancer team, had a mri and ct scan and now have had my operation all at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital. This was in mid November 2022. Initially I considered going private and met with a consultant at the Nuffield hospital. The consultant simply said don’t bother with private, no one will do better than the rd&e How right he was. My consultant carried out my operation and managed to avoid giving me a stoma, something he knew would cause me great stress. I was then transferred to the Lyne Ward. I can’t say I enjoyed it, I don’t like being out of my comfort zone. However, the staff couldn’t have been more supportive, nice and very professional. They have gone out of the way to accommodate my every request. I'm not allowed to name them, I wish I could. Everyone was kind, professional and concerned about my personal welfare. My sincere thanks go to all the staff of the Lyne ward. Even the tea man was smiling and helpful. To summarise my treatment has been outstanding I might add than I’ve just emailed the BBC complaining about their negative reporting of the NHS.

  4. Review titled Very Speedy Customer Care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Mr Andy Humphreys - Posted on 07 November 2022

Had some cysts on my eye so rang GP...29th in queue; went to Walk in Clinic...closed on Mondays. Cautiously opted for A and E as was in some pain. Obviously lots of people in the waiting area but triaged within about 25 minutes and referred to the Eye Clinic. Although on the same site they asked if I could take an eye selfie which I did at 11.30. They came back and offered me a same day appointment at 12.20! Small delay after initial eye test but prescrirbed anti biotics and hot compress treatment. I guess I was lucky the eye clinic have a different system outside of A and E so did not have the long wait but this NHS patient very pleased with service received.

  5. Review titled Amazing Staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Going through chemotherapy is not easy. But every single member of Yarty Day Case Unit make it so much easier to bear. They work so hard in such a busy environment but still always put the patients first. It’s hard to explain to others that it really is a lovely place to be, even a happy place to be! I cannot thank them enough for their kindness and compassion.

  6. Review titled Excellent all round care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Victoria Henderson - Posted on 27 October 2022

I had a complete hip replacement 2 weeks ago and the whole experience was so much better than I was expecting. All staff were friendly, cheerful and always willing to answer my questions. The operation and recovery were not at all stressful and once on the ward, I could not have received better care from the staff, both day and night. Thank you - I am already so mobile and becoming more so each day; fantastic to be rid of that chronic pain!

  7. Review titled Mixed experiences

    by tucanasy57 - Posted on 01 November 2022

Injections for age related macular degeneration. Sometimes the experiences are perfect but it all depends on how gentle the technician is who performs the operation. One particular person did a brilliant job while under supervision but a horrendous job later - far too rushed, too careless and to my mind arrogant, which resulted in me going to bed immediately once I got home. Sadly this criticism is not confined to the person mentioned above. I’ve heard of this complaint from other patients. I’m not alone.

I attended emergency dept in July as I broke my foot in 3 places. I have since been to fracture clinic twice. The service I received in both departments has been outstanding. NHS often get bad publicity but I want to thank all the staff for their kindness and professionalism during my healing. You really are a credit to the NHS Thank you Della

  9. Review titled My treatment following an accident

    by Grateful365 - Posted on 15 December 2022

Following a blow to the eye from my dying horse, I was in severe pain and unable to see from that eye. On arrival at the Accident and Emergency Department I was seen swiftly and made comfortable in a cubicle. My memory is sketchy, but I was seen by various doctors, consultants, attended the Maxillofacial Department, the West of England Eye Unit and had a CT scan. Throughout the day everyone was so compassionate, helpful and reassuring. Although not in the first flush of youth, I am embarrassingly not very brave in a busy environment, let alone in pain in a hospital, and upset at having lost a horse who I had had for 22 years. I am normally the person reassuring others! Everyone was so kind, although clearly busy, they checked me frequently and even cheerfully collected the frozen peas I had trailed from the pack I was using on my eye. Someone even managed to find sandwiches and tea for my poor husband, who is in his 80s and was understandably shocked by my predicament. I was diagnosed with a tripod fracture to my face, necessitating a repair to my orbital floor at a later date. Upon returning to the hospital two weeks later to undergo the orbital repair surgery, I was again treated very compassionately. As I nervously waited in the admissions ward, embarrassingly my legs wouldn't stop shaking, but everyone was again kind and understanding, and the anaesthetist came to administer something to ease my nerves. The anaethetists who looked after me were again so cheerful and understanding, chatting away to me and keeping me cheerful until I fell asleep. Upon waking in the recovery ward, the nurse who looked after me was again so kind. I spent the night on a ward as my eye needed hourly checks and I also required intravenous antibiotics to be administered during the night. I was discharged the following day and have had several follow-up consultations just to check on my recovery. My treatment and recovery have been nothing short of remarkable. Prior to surgery my eye had sunk, which upset those who saw me, and I suffered with severe double vision. Following surgery, I am now able to live my life normally and my eye now looks as it did before the accident. I am so eternally grateful for everything which was done for me and can never repay that debt.

  10. Review titled Took the pain out of a very traumatic time

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Mrs Hannah Young - Posted on 22 September 2022

Sadly my mum passed away on Yeo ward recently. Myself and my sister were allowed to stay by her side for the whole 3 days she was with you. We were fed and treated with absolute respect, as was my mother. They found us a lovely room to all be together quietly which made an awful time that much easier. The chaplaincy service was exemplary and I cannot stress enough how amazing this was. Thankyou all
