  1. Review titled Above and beyond

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Dan W - Posted on 17 January 2023

Amazing staff. My chronic condition turned acute which saw me quite unwell so I needed to visit a&e at 1am. I was triaged as fast as possible and then seen as fast as possible. There was no delay in my treatment. There was a lot of people that needed seeing and there was an extremely long waiting time - just like anywhere in the country so I cannot complain about that. However, the staff kept us updated with the process and how long it will likely take whenever they could. I was looked after better than I could have imagined. The drs and nurses went above any beyond their call to service with me. I cannot thank them all enough for their services. Lots of water around, clean place to wait and great staff.

  2. Review titled Good service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Claire Tweed - Posted on 10 January 2023

I attended A&E at Royal Stoke last night. On arrival I was shocked to see how busy it was. However, within around half an hour I saw a triage nurse who was very kind and supportive. Within a few minutes I was called through to see a Doctor. I waited quite some time after my x ray but was kept up to date by the staff. I had a painful procedure but the Doctor was reassuring, personable and professional. The nurses and all other staff were also professional and kind. I left after about 3 hours - I didn't feel that was too long and I thought I would be there much longer. Many thanks to the A & E team - the pressure they are under is clear but the care offered was excellent.

  3. Review titled Amazing work

Rated 5 stars out of 5

My husband was admitted to cardiothoracic dept for surgery in January, but due to underlying issues developed complex needs and was in critical care ward pod 1 for more than 60 days. These were difficult days, for me and my family - for weeks not knowing if he was going to make it. However due to the commitment, diligence and professionalism of the surgeon, doctors, nurses, physio’s and all other staff members in the ward he pulled through. They were so supportive and compassionate to all our family and left no stone unturned to help him. You do amazing work a credit to the NHS. They will always have our eternal thanks for saving his life.

  4. Review titled Still waiting

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Montse Bejar - Posted on 23 January 2023

1st December urgent appointment with gynecologic oncology after 8 months of pain and a high count on ca125. A scan was requested an unfortunately the petition was wrong/lost which lead to a full month waiting as Xmas hit the time and a MRI was requested instead of a Scan. I am still waiting even though I called 3 times and I was told I will receive a call by latest last Tuesday. Not information yet. I am not feeling well, I am still in pain! There is the NHS app where you can share information with patients if not as 'urgent' for a call to at least ease the anxious side of it or let me follow up with my GP privately if required. To keep calling or to go to the hospital and sit there until someone sees me it's also taking precious capacity from NHS employee but looks like is the only way.

  5. Review titled Amazing staff terrible wait times

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 14 January 2023

I suffer with severe mental health having not left my home for 2 years, so it took alot for me to go , I started having severe chest pains I brushed it off as another panic attack, only after 20 minutes this one wasn't going, and the pain was horrendous I couldn't breathe then the pain started travelling to my arms and legs I was terrified I was having an heart attack but still refusing my husband ringing an ambulance eventually I couldn't take the pain any more so I agreed to go on the promise he would take me no ambulance as I wouldn't cope ,I arrived at 21.30 and husband booked me in and I got taking straight through for obs ecg and bloods staff amazing, I was out of triage by 22.00 then I saw the board 134 waiting more than 4 hours wait at 9am this morning almost 12 hours after been there I still hadn't been seen by a Dr neither had loads of others that have been there but the staff are rushed off their feet it's not there fault, just after 9 we got called and got taken through and to ambulatory emergency care ,that's the most traumatic scenes I've ever witnessed trolley up on trolley old frail people lining the corridors it was like a war film ,again its not our hospital or NHS fault they are hero's without capes its all the cut backs and I witnessed first hand the rows of ambulances lined up with patients waiting to be booked it, the government are a disgrace ,once getting to the other department I had a further 2 ecgs a xray and a throurough examination to find what was wrong the dr I finally got to see 12 hours after been there was amazing and it was no way her fault finally 14 hours later I got my diagnosis and my medication and what I need to do next, the care I recieved was amazing the staff are amazing but the times are diablolical luckily for me it wasn't a heart attack but something that does resemble one due to my condition they have found but others aren't so lucky I want to say staff from portors to drs you are worth your weight in gold but 14 hours wait due to terrible pay and lack of drs due to cutbacks is an absolute joke and that's because of our government, it shouldn't be like that at all

  6. Review titled Amazing Poswillo suite

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Louise Prince - Posted on 23 January 2023

I took my 5 year old to have 9 teeth removed. I was extremely upset the whole morning leading up to this. We arrived at the poswillo suite and from start to finish the ladies were amazing. One of the nurses sang my daughter to sleep with a brilliant rendition of frozen which eased her off to sleep with the gas. I was then moved to a little room when i was greeted and comforted by another lovely lady. When my daughter was coming round i was quickly brought to her and she was given 100 percent attention and was looked after amazingly i cant thank you all enough for today. We were quickly on our way home within the hour and my little girl has been fine since being home with us. Thank u for being amazing

  7. Review titled In the best of hands

    by Zoe23 - Posted on 18 January 2023

Firstly we ended up at the wrong place - ward 217 - but the staff couldn’t have been more helpful and a particular nurses escorted us to our correct destination, chatting to my daughter all the way. At the Poswillo unit, every member of staff was amazing. The anaesthetist, the surgeon and the nurses all explained every step of my daughter’s tooth extraction and showed her the surgery before the procedure - something that they must have to parrot several times a day, but it wasn’t robotic but felt personal. I honestly can’t praise them enough for what a relaxing experience it was. Our dedicated nurse (I missed her name unfortunately) was absolutely lovely. If anyone is going or taking their child for a tooth extraction here, you’re in the best of hands.

  9. Review titled Excellent care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Helen Townsend - Posted on 04 January 2023

I called 111 on the Boxing day. After describing my symptoms to them, they booked me into Royal Stoke A&E department for 10 am. On arrival, I was quickly triaged by a friendly kind nurse. I waited a short time to see a doctor, who got a second opinion from a consultant. I got an examination, medication, blood tests and results all within 3 hours 15 minutes! Everyone was very kind, caring and efficient. I wanted to send a plaudit as I know there is a lot of negative press around emergency care at the moment. Thank you and I really appreciate you being there on Boxing day.

  10. Review titled I'll never be able to thank you enough

    by Finn's Mum - Posted on 13 January 2023

My little boy was admitted at the end of December and we were terrified. He had had a seizure at home for the first time ever and honestly it felt like our world was being ripped apart. All the nurses on PICU were so kind, calming and professional. They truly care about the children they are looking after. Even from picking the right bedsheet design and gown, and popping tiny gel pads under my boy’s ankles so he doesn’t mark from lying still so long. They might say “it’s just our job” but it’s so much more than that to us parents. You made a horrible, scary experience so much better for us and I’ll never be able to thank you enough for the kindness you treated us and our boy with. I felt so kept in the loop, so cared about, and so confident in their care of him that I actually managed to rest whilst there which I haven’t been able to do at home (so a special thank you there). Nothing was too much trouble for them, and when he was finally awake and no longer intubated, the phenomenal care continued. One nurse even managed to make him a tuna mayo sandwich at 6am because he was asking for one (it’s all he eats sandwich-wise due to ASD). He wasn’t scared when he woke but greeted by smiling happy faces and reassurance from his nurses. So much so he wanted them to cuddle with him in his bed! That was our first and hopefully our last visit to PICU in Stoke, but honestly the trauma was significantly minimised by the wonderful staff that work there. Thank you endlessly.
