  1. Review titled Urology dept , laser stone treatment

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Steve - Posted on 20 May 2024

After 4 rounds of unsuccessful lithotripsy, I was finally Booked in for laser treatment, Every single person from reception To nurses, anaesthetist to consultant were absolutely outstandingly Helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and the care was brilliant. My one simple tiny complaint is I would have like to have had a little bit of communication after my operation. However I take on board They are super busy and have a lot of patients to deal with. Sincere grateful thanks.

  2. Review titled A fine example of the NHS at its best.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Richard Jell - Posted on 21 May 2024

I don't where to start, I've just received a kidney transplant, my care has been absolutely amazing. All the staff have been so professional and courteous, can't fault the fantastic care I've received. I love the building,, it feels like a cathedral when you walk in, the wards and rooms are 5 star and the food, best I've eaten and I've good experience of different hospitals. The renal team team are the best and for first time I've actually got to see the pain management team who have helped with my recovery. My transplant was carried out by the most professional team, they really care that you're okay with every step and actually listen to any concerns. The ward staff have beyond wonderful. I couldn't be in better hands and am so grateful for the kidney and the care I've received. If only all NHS hospitals could be this good, let's hope the staff get paid truly for the effort they put in and it's great to see such a diverse staff from all around the world 🌈🙂❤️

  3. Review titled Superb care.

I received spinal decompression surgery at Southmead. Everything about the hospital and my care was beyond reproach. The hospital is well organised and everything ran on time. This is very important to anyone going in for surgery who is worried about the process. The surgeons, doctors and nurses were all very professional, but above all friendly and caring. If I ever have to have treatment again I will choose Southmead.

Three weeks ago I had an operation to clear out my carotid artery that was 90 per cent blocked. The surgeon explained the operation and the potential benefits with great clarity. The anaesthetist was extremely communicative and supportive. The nurse in the recovery ward was very empathic and friendly. All in all I received an excellent service which I cannot praise too highly. In addition the volunteers were most helpful in assisting us finding our way around the hospital.

  5. Review titled so uncomfortable

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 01 May 2024

I am a 17 year old girl and I went to an appointment booked via my gp due to an issue prior to a medical abortion. this appointment was at 10:30 and i went in and told them my name. they had no record on this system for it but did have a note book with it. they then told me to sit down and wait which then 2 hours later they ask for my address. they then told me they can’t find anything etc. i finally got a room where 2 nurses ask why i was here so i explained. then one asks for a urine sample and blood tests. she leaves with not a word 20 minutes later someone comes in asking to do my blood pressure and pulse then leaves with not a word. 15 minutes later a doctor comes in once again asking what i was there for when i watched my gp call the person on call and told them everything and wrote it down. she then asks to do a vaginal exam (wasn’t there for that but i understand they’re checking things) she then asks for a blood test which i told her i already have she asked if i did yesterday and i said no a ladies just come in and she was confused. she then tells me i need to come back in a few days for a scan bare in mind that’s all i went there for. she told me they have no space today which i replied with so why was i booked in for an appointment today for a scan. if they didn’t have time why did i come. there was no communication from any of the doctors and nurses however the receptionist was lovely. i was sent off my way and i burst into tears all the way home. if young people get told they’re old enough to see doctors without their parents hospitals need to cater to that. how are they allowing a 17 year old girl coming in with problems due to an abortion and make her feel so uncomfortable and uneasy absolutely unacceptable.

  6. Review titled No MRI Head Scan Result

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 20 April 2024

On 27th February I had an MRI head scan at Southmead. This was monitoring a small meningioma brain tumour. After nearly 8 weeks, I still have no result of the scan. I rang the secretary about a month ago and was told the scan had not yet been reported. Yesterday I received an appointment through the post for another head MRI scan (this time at Weston). I do not know why and could not get through to Southmead (not to the secretary or Pals). I think there has been a mix-up, but there is obviously a little unease about this. The same thing happened last year when the meningioma was monitored. The scan happened in February and no result (despite chasing) until May. I raised the issue then. The same was happening several years ago when my mother who had had a huge meningioma brain tumour was having scans. I raised the problem then. Nothing has changed. Such a wait for scan results is totally unacceptable. There is clearly a shortage of radiologists and probably neurosurgeons. But - whatever the cause - when something is clearly so wrong it needs to be called out. Otherwise it becomes the norm (as seems to have happened here) and what is clearly wrong starts to look OK. We are in a situation where - presumably because of shortages of staff - the result of a scan done in February also then becomes impacted by delays caused by the Easter break (in April) and probably also by the May bank holidays. It's crazy. (Let's hope the result comes before being impacted by the summer breaks too!)

  7. Review titled Expert, caring and swift treatment

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Louise - Posted on 12 March 2024

After moving house my care of a long term condition was transferred to the Endocrinology Dept at Southmead Hospital. The hospital as a whole is clean and very well organised. I am always greeted by all staff, receptionists, nursing team and my consultant in a professional and kind way. At the first appointment I was offered a full review of all my needs and within months had a bone scan, heart ultrasound and blood tests reviewed with letters from the consultant to update me on what these results showed. My consultations are not rushed, they are personalised to my needs and the approach is always thoughtful and compassionate. Any questions I have are always answered clearly even if my symptoms don't relate entirely to the condition being treated for, I am still given advice, signposted to where I need or referred to a Dept who can provide help. Coordinating care with my GP (who is based in Wales where I live) has not been easy but again the consultant has made themself available to reply to emails and to ensure that there is continuity of care with my prescription changes and providing extra blood tests directly where the GP is unable. I feel confident that my health is looked after under the expertise of the Southmead Endocrinology team and I am pleased that my care was transferred here when I moved home.

  8. Review titled Outstanding care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Tony (Anthony) Woodhams - Posted on 29 April 2024

I have recently undergone pre operative assessment, major surgery and post operative recovery at Southmead Hospital, North Bristol NHS Trust. I would be grateful if you would put on record and pass on my thanks to all the staff who in any way cared for me. Throughout my entire stay I was treated with courtesy, consideration and the utmost professionalism and importantly my expectations were properly managed. The skill of the surgical and medical teams was truly exceptional and was supported by the assessment and specialist teams, Stoma nurses and nursing teams at every level. The domestic staff provided nutritious tasty food whilst the surroundings were kept immaculately clean by the friendly housekeeping staff. I have not named individuals but collectively you will know who you are: once again on behalf of my family and myself thank you so very much. Anthony ( Tony) Woodhams.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer at end of November, from the initial diagnosis and biopsy to the two surgeries I have received, my care has been exemplary. Everyone played their part from the receptionists to the highly skilled surgeon . I felt listened to, informed and cared for at all times. An example of the best the NHS has to offer Thank you !

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by John Phillips - Posted on 08 July 2024

From March 2024 to June 2024 my time being a patient was the best I could have wished for. Fabulous team of surgeons, nurses and specialist nurses in orthopaedics and infection clinic. They were at the end of the phone if I needed advice after being discharged. The communication certainly added to my recovery and I am grateful that I had a wonderful caring team. Thank you all
