Review titled Great service
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Alison Harvey - Posted on 28 February 2024
Considering the Nhs is in such a mess this department appeared well run. Triage was fairly quickly done. Yes, they are under pressure and it gets filled very quickly my experience was that the staff were working and treating patients with care and should be respected for their care. I did have to wait some time but that was because they were waiting for blood results and I was soon taken though to the department for the particular reason that I had attended and given treatment. Sad to see people still on trolleys but that isn't the staff's fault it is because there is not the room and facilities which they should have.

Review titled The best possible care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Akexandra - Posted on 18 February 2024
Upon my arrival I was triaged in a few minutes due I am sure to referral by the out of hours doctor. I was then taken directly to the bed in a small department which is part of the a&e. From this moment if I had to find a problem it could not be done. Every member of staff, including triage and night staff, informed me of everything before acting and answered my questions fully in easy to understand language. I had to have a change to my medication routine and a detailed set of treatment methods and it was all explained fully including when they had to be altered. All of my requirements were satisfied fully including during busy times. I was treated with total professionalism and received the very best personal care. I believe this would also have happened without my possibility of a serious condition. In summary I almost wish I didn't get better. Although I think I was an easy patient I was given the warmest of farewells when discharged. My heartfelt thanks go out all the staff. I hope I do not have to return (unlikely given my health issues) but if/when I do it will be with a very positive feeling.

Review titled Poor service
Rated 2 stars out of 5

Attended A/E in the very early hours of Sunday morning 4 February after falling down a flight of stairs. The paramedics were called to the house and took all my vitals etc, and they were very good and caring. Following my arrival at the hospital I was triaged and again can’t fault it they were very helpful and also caring. After that I was placed in the waiting room until seen by a doctor ( which after almost 5 hours didn’t happen) and following a couple of requests by myself about progress I was told they couldn’t tell me anything. By this time I was feeling very anxious with the lack of sleep and again told they didn’t know when I’d be seen. I asked reception could I go home and the blood results to go to my GP, the receptionist said the results would go to my GP so I called a taxi and went home. The state of the reception area was well below standard with a couple of paper coffee cups on the dirty floor and coffee and soft drink stains. When I arrived at the A/E department it wasn’t overly busy and when I left it was less busy so I’m at loss to why I wasn’t seen. This was my first experience at attending southport hospital and wouldn’t like another one. I would sincerely hope they would get better at seeing patients and at the very least keep the patient informed

Review titled Thank you so much.
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by TPR - Posted on 26 January 2024
My doctor sent me to A&E on 25/01/2024 as I had high BP and tingling around my heart. First straight into Triage for an Ecg then moved onto another waiting room for a blood test followed by X-ray. Also had my BP monitored again think this was around 5 times now from triage. Had temperature taken, gave a water specimen and sat in the waiting room for a short time worrying about what is happening with my body. A doctor came and we went into a room. The doctor explained that my bloods, x-ray and urine all clear. The doctor explained everything had time for me and was very reassuring. I felt 100% better when they gave me the all clear. I gave all the team praise yesterday and expressed my gratitude. The hospital was bursting with poorly people but even so the staff worked calm and efficiently. Thank you very much for looking after me yesterday.

Review titled Amazing care for my father in his final days
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Sandra - Posted on 26 December 2023
My 87 year old father was rushed to A&E at 2am with a bad infection. The 2 doctors on shift advised he had hours to live and we were given a side room. The care and attention the nurses and doctors was fantastic, we couldn't fault the service. It was like private health care. They even arranged Chaplin services for prayers which called an out of hours Chaplin within 20 mins. We were given regular updates and they were so caring with my dad in his final days. NHS at its absolute best.

I have received excellent treatment and aftercare from the staff and consultants in this department for a number of years. After a period of remission I had a recent flare-up and was able have a consultation and follow-up treatment within a short time. Excellent in every way.

Review titled Spinal unit education
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 03 November 2023
I had the opportunity to attended the spinal unit for training purposes. I would like to tell you my journey. As soon as we entered the entrance we were met by a friendly member of staff. We were given information about our day. On the ward, the nurses were friendly, kind and very informative. We were shown around. Also, staff not involved with us smiled at us, said hello. This may seen a little thing, but its the cornerstone of a friendly environment. All the staff were great, informative, and they created a friendly, kind learning environment, which makes one feel comfortable to ask questions and learn. Absolutely fantastic experience. Thank
