  1. Review titled Poor communications facilities

Rated 4 stars out of 5

I have had an on-going bladder problem, but every time I try and contact the Urology department I get an answer phone. It infuriating. I have search for an email address for them to drop them information/ask questions but there isn't one! Please could the hospital look into the current access to this department from outside the hospital. Currently it is not fit for purpose.

  2. Review titled Surgical Assessment Unit - inappropriate behaviour

Rated 4 stars out of 5

Early hours in the morning where they tell you to get rest and you can hear the staff gossiping about other staff members and other patients. It’s off-putting hearing staff making inappropriate comments about yourself as it made me not want to ask for help. They were really loud and I could not get any sleep.

  3. Review titled I am so grateful for everything you did for me

    by Beryl B - Posted on 05 April 2023

I attended J25 (Ophthalmology) St James Hospital in Leeds today for day surgery. I want to commended the medical and nursing staff who treated and looked after me. I was nervous about this appointment, being 82 years young (!), but felt so reassured by the teams professionalism, compassion, care and good humour! One doctor was so kind as to place a pillow under my legs as my back was hurting, this really helped me and was a distraction from the procedure l had done. I am so grateful for everything you did for me and feel you need recognition for it.

  4. Review titled Excellent Service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I was admitted to the Admissions Lounge / Ward for removal of my gallbladder. The care I received on this ward was absolutely brilliant, all the staff went above and beyond to provide professional care. All the staff were friendly, very caring and professional. The ward was extremely clean and tidy and I felt very safe during my stay on the ward. I would recommend St James Hospital and particularly the Admissions Lounge / Ward to anybody who is in need of surgery. I would like to say a big thank you to all the ward staff and the surgical team for the excellent care they all provided.

  5. Review titled Great staff

Had a cystoscopy which I was absolutely dreading but in the end it was painless, staff put me at ease and discussed everything as it went along. No issues for me at all, no rush either.

My mother and her partner attended the ophthalmology outpatient department and were shown genuine compassion and care. The nurse went above and beyond and made such a positive difference to their experience, we’re very grateful.

I visited with my elderly mother . The department on the first floor was an absolute disgrace . Looked dirty plaster missing on wall where my mother was laid . The whole place needs a total refurbishment . Very depressing

  10. Review titled Colonoscopy - mixed experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 26 January 2023

I was booked on a 2 week referral & when the appointment was made I was advised that someone would contact me to go through everything however this never happened. I received my prep on a Friday evening, just 3 days before the appointment date & a couple of hours before the department closed so I felt a bit unprepared as I had such a short window of time to ask questions after reading through all the information. I struggled to get through on phone but thankfully managed to just in time & spoke to a wonderful person who answered all my questions & reassured me. When I arrived at the department I was greeted by a receptionist who started to book me in, they then walked off midway through with no explaination & started to do other work leaving the second receptionist to take over after noticing me still standing there. I found that quite rude. After that everyone I interacted with was great & I was really put at ease by the team who carried out the colonoscopy. They kept me informed throughout & comforted me as I was very anxious about the whole thing. The procedure was a breeze! The after care felt a little bit rushed & I'm suprised that after fasting for so long I was not offered any food or drink afterwards, despite being repeatedly told this would happen in the second recovery room. I had to ask for water a few times before I got some which wasn't great. I am also a bit unsure as to what will happen next as my colonoscopy was clear which leaves me with unanswered questions about what caused my symptoms. I was told by 2 different people that someone will contact me but the report says refer back to GP. Overall my experience was mixed but the important part, the colonoscopy itself, was very positive.
