Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 25 March 2024

update, I have sore fingers and my first review spelling came out wrong so I will start again, my daughter came today for the second steps in IVF as she had her bloods done and a scan and her fiance had his tests done as they we're promised three goes, she had IVF icis about 7 years ago and it failed, they said you can have another go when ever you feel ready, why let them go through all that the bloods the scan to say today oh by the way your not having any more, the time they've took off work lost money even today they had to take time off work for you to tell them that, my daughter is heartbroken, why couldn't you of just told them before they started with bloods and scans and why say she has another two goes why do all that , that's why its shameful on your part I wouldn't what any one else go through what you have put my daughter through

  2. Review titled Amazing Birth Centre

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 07 February 2024

Our experience at the birth centre was superb. When contractions started, we came to the birth centre, 3cm dilated. From then on, our labour and post natal experience was great. 1. Midwives amazing During labour, the midwives were really compassionate and supportive for the entire time. They were the biggest, best personal cheerleaders you would find - like a teenager going to a Taylor Swift concert (and I mean this in the most positive way). Midwives were technically experienced and competent, listened well to our concerns, calm and had lots of good supportive suggestions during labour. Midwives were also honest when they were unsure of things and needed to consult the doctors - this gave us lots of assurances that we were getting the best possible care. After birth, all the midwives we met were checking in on us about every 2-3 hours, and were always on call to help with any questions or concerns we had. We had support on establishing breast feeding with the baby. They also conducted checks with the baby and mother, which led to consulting two doctors on separate occasions to do further checks. This again assured us that they were very thorough and did not leave anything to chance. All midwives from different shifts were amazing, kind, approachable and great. 2. Facilities - 5star The birth centre facilities were amazing. The pool, birthing bed, bean bags, balls, lighting, were all very calming and comfortable. It felt less “medical” but you do have all medical equipment at arms length. Post natal rooms were equally great. A double bed helped as I (birth partner) could also rest. The armchair was very comfortable and practical. Shared pantry provided was great. Facilities were very clean, practical, simple and useful. Money was spent well at the birth centre. It is not luxurious in the physical sense - no gold plated toilet bowls, but gave the best chance of a “luxurious experience”.

  3. Review titled Good staff, awful systems

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 10 January 2024

Have experience of the hospital across maternity, early pregnancy, emergency gynaecology and recurrent miscarriage clinics. The individual staff members are often highly skilled and competent but the systems are awful and lead to frustration and unnecessary stress and issues for patients. Lack of availability of scans for multiple days while experiencing a suspected miscarriage meant I had to pay £90 for a private scan to find out my baby had died. Lack of options for medical management of missed miscarriage (2 week wait for surgery, vacuum aspiration not available) meant I was sent home for expectant management against my wishes, resulting in being rushed back into hospital experiencing severe bleeding and having to be hospitalised just a few hours later. Five months after referrals to early pregnancy loss counselling and recurrent miscarriage clinic I still haven't been given appointments despite having been told the wait for each was 3 months. Have been told to expect appointments no sooner than March, seven months after initial referral. Individual staff are caring, compassionate and highly skilled but are let down by awful management, poor communication, terribly long waiting times and lack of options for care leaving patients feeling abandoned, disempowered and uncared for.

Dear Patient, Firstly I wish to pass on my sincere condolences on the sad loss of your baby at what must be a very distressing time for you. I am very saddened to hear of your poor experience whilst accessing our services at Saint Mary’s Hospital this is not the high standard of care that we expect to provide. I am very sorry that you had to undergo a private scan due to the lack of scan availability, and we understand the scanning availability does require improvement and we are reviewing the current level of provision and how we may address this shortfall so to increase the availability of scans to our patients. This does involve a number of various departments and can take some time, but please be assured it is under review. I am also very sorry for the delay in your appointment for surgery at what was an already anxious and distressing time, and this only served to make the situation worse. We endeavour to offer dates usually with 2 days however, sometimes this can be longer than we anticipate, and I am unsure why you were offered an unacceptable length of time and I would be willing to look investigate this further if you would like to contact me my email address is rachael.schollar@mft.nhs.uk. I am very sorry of the delay that you have received in regard to counselling appointments but would like to assure you we are currently out to recruit for another counsellor in the department so to improve our wait times, we have also recruited a bereavement gynaecology nurse who will be able to offer support to parents. If you had not yet received an appointment, please contact me and I will arrange for our bereavement nurse to contact you. We also run a patient live forum for patients who have attended EGU to ask for their feedback every week, if this is something that you would like to share please again contact me on my email address and I will be happy to speak with you. Once again, I am very sorry for the experience you have had and would like assure you, we take all feedback very seriously and thank you for your feedback and hope that the measures that have been discussed are satisfactory to yourself, alternatively you can contact the PALS Department at PALS@mft.nhs.uk. 4. Review titled Great Medical Care of my daughter-in-law and granddaughter

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 20 January 2024

I am really impressed and grateful for the medical care at St Mary’s to both my daughter in law and new granddaughter. There were existing health conditions to consider and a delivery with complications , the latter resulted in a lengthy stay for them. They have received excellent care for which we are very appreciative. Thank you.

  5. Review titled Worst Hospital for emergencies

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 10 December 2023

I have been experiencing a horrible pain in the lower abdomen from the past few week, which I suspected it to be most likely an infection or appendix case. I’ve seen my gp but nothing. And it only got worse the last couple of days in which I was talked through calling 111 to go to the emergency department - which you’d think will get you seen at a faster pase, but not at St. Mary’s Hospital!!!! So, once we get on the line hospital they arranged an ambulance since I couldn’t move, walk and stand properly from the pain. The ambulance didn’t arrive until 3h later (1am), while i was in agonising pain. We had to call them several times, we even booked a cab at some point. And as we were going to meet the driver, boom they were “magically” parked in parking lot already. Weird coincidence right? Once in the ambulance they had a student sticking a needle up my arm in the completely wrong way, which caused me more pain. Once arrived at the hospital they transferred me to a reclinable chair, and had me waiting almost 2 hour just to take some blood and urine samples. After taking my samples they proceeded to move me to a waiting area where only stiff chairs were available. Although communicating that I could not sit because the pain was 10/10, they would give me a bed nor a blanket to make the wait less agonising. So I ended up laying on the dirty, cold floor for about 3 hour, like a dog. Mean while all they gave me was paracetamol and ibuprofen to retain the pain, which did absolutely nothing. At that point I asked a nurse how much longer was the wait, to which I was answered that no idea and that no one had yet been assigned to visit me. Ridiculous right? Well, I then spoke to the other patients that we’re in the waiting room with me how long they had been waiting for. One of them had been waiting from 7pm and at 5am had still not been visited. Another lady had two children at home and was waiting from a similar amount of time, but they wouldn’t let her go home. They told us there was 50 people in front of us, so I let you guess how long we would have had to wait in order to just speak to anyone. Meanwhile one could literally get worse and get more Ill, but they don’t care. They give you paracetamol and leave you to die in a corner. So if you think these people are gonna do anything to actually help you sort out your health issues, it’s better if you find the solution yourself. You’ll probably be faster and do a better job than them. I ended up not getting visited because the physical pain, the pain of laying on the floor, the sleep and food deprivation were eating me alive. What an absolute circus and joke.

Your Review: The staff are lovely and the unit is run brilliantly. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Thanks to the countless people who's names I never took/remember. I genuinely believe that 100 year's ago my partner would have died in childbirth, it's fascinating to see how far medicine has advanced in the last century. Thanks to all in the delivery unit and upstairs in the recovery suite. X

  7. Review titled Amazing professionals!

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 28 November 2023

Recently having my first baby, I was due to have an outpatient induction. However when I went into hospital things were not right for me to have this so I was kept in hospital with high blood pressure and would be there until I had my baby. I was induced in the afternoon and started Labour a few hours after. From the minute I went to St Mary’s, every single person was so helpful. I was in labour for 27 hours, had multiple different midwives coming on and off shift. My last bit of Labour took quite a turn as my baby was getting agitated so things had to be sped up. Before I knew it I was having an assisted delivery and my baby was born 10 minutes after this! I had the most amazing midwives and doctor who came to the delivery suite I was in and just took care of things, made sure I was ok, made sure my baby was ok. Even down to the student midwives. What a massive help. I definitely wouldn’t have been able to do it without you guys holding my hand telling me I could do it when I had literally nothing left. Absolute hero’s who don’t get enough credit for what they do. Thank you so so so much to everyone on ward 64. You guys really are the best, thank you for bringing my baby into this world so safely.

  8. Review titled Brilliant Care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Susan Bowler - Posted on 19 September 2023

I attended today for a hysteroscopy following post menopausal bleeding. The consultant gynaecologist and his team were absolutely brilliant. I was treated with the upmost respect and dignity. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. I was reassured by all the team throughout the procedure which was changed slightly so a speculum didn't need to be used . The whole experience was exemplary and a credit to the dedication and expertise of this gynaecologist and his team. Thank you so much

  9. Review titled Great experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Ann Bailes - Posted on 26 June 2023

I had a hysterectomy last week at St Mary's Manchester. Fantastic consultant (not allowed to name unfortunately) with a great theatre team and wonderful ward nurses. I've had ops before elsewhere and had good experiences but found the staff at StMarys particularly warm and empathetic. Very professional, treated me like a person and despite being incredibly busy they listened to my questions and addressed my concerns. I was very impressed and am recovering well due to thier excellent care. I cannot recommend St Mary's highly enough.

  10. Review titled Faultless midwifery service from start to finish

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Y.Kan (Baby Kan's mum) - Posted on 15 March 2023

Calling ahead to triage I arrived outside St Mary's by car around 9am. Three midwives ran with a wheelchair to get me from the car as I was heavily dilated already. One of the midwives told the traffic warden not to penalise us being parked in the 30 minute drop off, which was so kind of her. They kept me calm and distracted by chatting to me until they got me into triage. Shortly after being into a delivery room I was put on gas and air. I asked for an epidural but was gently and respectfully told it was too late for that as my baby was going to come out soon. Whereas in a London hospital where I delivered my son I was asked why I was even screaming when I was in labour being induced! I remember saying I couldn't do it as it was too painful and the team of midwives were so encouraging saying you can, you've done it all by yourself so far. I remember saying that I wanted to do a poo and I know they have probably heard it all before. They just said that's okay that's just the baby coming. True enough within the hour my baby girl arrived safely on the other side. The level of respect given by the midwifery team when I was at my most vulnerable was just the best. I can't fault the service received one bit. I would recommend St Mary's Hospital to anybody without question. There were just so many faces and names to remember that I couldn't remember them all. However, I wanted to let you all know that I will be eternally grateful for all that everybody involved that day did for me that day in helping the safe delivery of my baby girl. A 5 star service from start to finish. A very grateful mum that will never forget those that helped me that day. Thank you so much St Mary's triage and midwifery team.
