    After being fitted with a catheter in A&E, I was asked to visit the TWOC (Try WithOut Catheter) clinic the following week. The specialist nurses there were kind and sympathetic. They provided me with tea, soup and a sandwich whilst I spent most of the day in the department. The treatment I received was exemplary.

    On 20th April 2023 I had an operation on my right hand to alleviate the effects of Dupytrens Contracture. The operation went well and I was returned to the day-case ward. Unfortunately the anaethetic affected my bladder function and I was unable to urinate. I was kept in overnight with a catheter fitted then released the next day. I am in absolute admiration for the professionalism of the nursing staff who alleviated the extreme pain I was in by very promptly fitting a catheter. One nurse in particular turned out to be an experienced Eurology nurse and was an absolute "angel in disguise" efficiently "sorting me out". I will be forever grateful to her.

    While waiting a considerable time for an angiogram I was on ward a11. The lack of information was very noticeable and very disappointing. On a plus side the level of care from the nurses was in my opinion excellent. Obviously the standard from certain nurses was above and beyond. I won’t name them as they know who they are as I told them how impressed I was. On a down side the administration needs updating as I believe the management forget the patients are real people and not just numbers in a bed. Overall the experience was not too bad but certainly could have been considerably better.

I have asked the Ward team for a response which is as follows: “I am pleased that you received excellent care from the nursing staff on the ward and that you felt some of them went above and beyond. In view of waiting a long time you’re your angiogram – I cannot really comment of this unless I knew your details. Angiograms usually happen quite swiftly (within 72hrs) unless there is a reason for not. We do try to keep our patients updated at all times so it’s unfortunate that you felt you weren’t kept up to date on the ward.     I really can’t thank the midwives at the maternity unit at stepping hill enough. They looked after me so well whilst I was in labour. Right from when my waters went, to giving birth, they were there for me. Me and my partner honestly can’t thank you enough. Both of us have been telling everyone how good you all are. I was too out of it at the time to say Thankyou, but I just hope this message gets passed along to the staff to tell them how amazing they are, and to tell them how good they are at their jobs. They were most likely understaffed, but they all still powered through and gave me the best possible labour/birth I could ever ask for. Each and every single one of them deserves credit. I remember all your names - I wish I could name you on here! Amazing amazing amazing - keep on doing what you are doing because I could not have done it without your support and you believing in me.

    I was very well looked after by all staff, clinical and reception. The treatment was completed very professionally and the clinical staff I saw were extremely helpful, reassuring and friendly. I had a synacthen test.

    Had an endoscopy yesterday. The staff on the unit are beyond fantastic ! Was really scared but they put me at ease and explained everything. All the staff were so warm and caring. A credit to our wonderful NHS

    Service can’t be faulted. Kept fully informed of progress and both Dr and all staff were wonderful in Suite 3. Thank you so much for sorting me out. Liked the way they provided continuity where possible over two visits this week.

    I attended A&E with breathlessness and chest pains, and was seen in A&E / cardiology. The team who assessed my condition were really thorough, friendly and caring, as were the paramedics. A full series of tests was performed and ruled out immediate danger of heart problems. Not only was the treatment really professional but the doctor under took additional tests and has made recommendations to my GP. This has saved time and provided a good deal of reassurance, at least as far as my immediate symptoms are concerned. Thank you for going the extra mile and hopefully I won’t need to see you again anytime soon! Best wishes John

    I went for a procedure at the Urology department last week. What a great team they are. I was seen on time and the people I dealt with were kind reassuring and caring. I could not have wished for more.

    Having been referred by the doctor I receive but miss the call for an appointment the voice mail asks you to ring a number that doesn’t allow you to follow up the call as a new patient your not in the hospital system therefore a return call is meaningless and loss of ability to make a booking no means of getting back to the initial dept who is trying to contact you . So as the patient I’m left waiting for the missed contact to be picked up. A black hole as far as the patient is concerned. How does this benefit the hospital in achieving its two week contact time? The patient is left doing the leg work? Or risk missing the important appointment it’s not two week request for nothing. Please review this system as it is ineffective and inappropriate, a black hole for new patients and a waste of referral which could cost a life.
