  1. Review titled Great experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Paul Mooney - Posted on 18 October 2023

On 16/10/23 I attended the Interventional Radiology Dept by appointment…fact is my appointment was actually for 16/11/23!.. the error was 100% down to me. However I met the most helpful senior nurse who suggested my wife and I take a walk and come back within the hour and she would do her best to see if I could have my treatment carried out. We came back within the hour and she had everything sorted out, I had the treatment carried out by the Doctor and his assistant in the unit. Those three people epitomise all that is great about the NHS, they could not have been nicer, they know who they are and I’m very grateful to all three. I would not have been able to attend in November. Thank you.

  2. Review titled The wonderful care received by my father

    by Christopher652 - Posted on 20 October 2023

In October 2023 my 89 year old father was admitted to Ward E3 in Stepping Hill Hospital with respiratory problems and a deep vein thrombosis. He was in the ward for eleven days as his condition worsened until he eventually passed away. The care he received throughout, from Doctors, Nurses and HCAs, was absolutely outstanding. Not only were they unerringly professional, they showed limitless compassion and care for him and the family members who came to visit. Nothing was too much trouble. They discussed the medical information about his increasingly complex conditions at every stage, explained complex issues in simple terms and helped us understand how his wishes would be best served. I cannot thank them enough for making a difficult experience so very positive and for giving my father such a dignified end to his life. My last thank you might seem a little strange but the cleaning staff took such pride in the ward, making sure everything was spotless and spreading a bit of humour and happiness to the patients as they worked.

Good morning, Thank you for taking the time to share this lovely feedback for Ward E3. First off, I am so sorry for the loss of your father but it was heartening to read about the compassionate care given to him, and you as his family, while he was under their care. This helps make these challenging times feel softer. I will share this feedback with the Ward team, Managers, Matron as well as the Domestic Manager as I know they will appreciate hearing this. Our best wishes are with you and your family during this time of loss. Kind regards, Aoife Isherwood Patient Experience Facilitator

  5. Review titled I feel badly let down

    by Leah90 - Posted on 31 October 2023

I am in my 70s. My GP in a phone conversation told me to phone for an ambulance to take me to hospital to have my asthma checked. They had phoned the ward, who would be waiting for me. As there was a 7-hour delay for an ambulance, a friend brought me in. I am still in A&E. No-one has asked me about my breathing or tested it. When I enquired, I was told I'd have to wait for the medical ward. No-one can tell me how much longer I'll have to wait. I've found the communication abysmal. I feel badly let down, as though no-one cares. Most of the staff are pleasant.

  6. Review titled Unplanned visit to A&E

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Hazel - Posted on 12 October 2023

Having being advised by GP to visit A&E I was impressed with the handling of my condition as a walk in patient . I was told to follow the Urgent Care arrows which led me into the waiting room Yes there was a wait, but a busy unit with kind, considerate senior health worker and very kind considerable doctor. Both explained the treatment and possible outcomes - all good . Then with prescription in hand to pharmacy where tablets dispensed in 20 mins with full info given by pharmacist who gave time and explanation.

  8. Review titled Its all about the people you see

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 05 September 2023

I'm Autistic. Frequently I experience lack of emathy and understanding from 'front of desk' personnel. You'd think the NHS would do better but they do not. At Stepping Hill A&E the person I saw at reception clearly thought I was a nuisance. Complete lack of recognition of the challenges Autistic people face. The Triage nurse was wonderful though. A really helpful and caring soul, that made a huge difference to how I was feeling. I'm glad I went. It just goes to prove that an organisation is only as good as its people. Perhaps the front of desk person was having a bad day. I just wish hospitals were better able to support neurodiverse people. They should exhibit best practice surely?

Good morning, Thank you for taking time to share your recent experience with us following the contact you had with the front of house in the Emergency Department. I was sorry to read that you felt that you did not receive the support you needed. This feedback will be shared with the team so they can use this to look at how this can be addressed in the department. I would also like to assure you that at Stockport NHS Trust it is now mandatory for all staff to compete the Oliver McGowan Training on Learning Disability and Autism where communication, empathy and understanding is covered. 10. Review titled Accompanying my daughter

by Samsam - Posted on 01 September 2023

We went to the x-ray department to get my little girl's wrist checked out. I was there over half hour to realise four people went in before that came after her. Turns out they forgot to put her paperwork through and it was on the desk in front of the member of staff that forgot to put her name on the list. My daughter was then called in, for her to be told she would have to go in on her own when she's 7 years old. I said no, I would like to come in with her as I don't feel comfortable with that, to be then treated like I shouldn't be in there. End of the day, she's 7 years old and think any mum or dad wouldn't let them in, after all she's under 16 and a minor. They also asked her the questions that she didn't know, I confirmed them to be looked at funny as if I did something wrong. I can't stress enough that in this day and age not wanting a mum or dad in the room rings alarm bells with me. I do think this is wrong and the staff should let parents in the room and shouldn't need to be told they can't come in and for them to ask a child mum can stay outside without asking me first is not at all professional, in my view - she's 7, not 16. I hope this is taken seriously and not just pushed aside. Thanks
