Review titled Awful Service
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 29 November 2023
In my opinion, as a Consultant to the NHS for 30 years, the A&E department is the worst I have ever seen. Treatment of my daughter was a disgrace and she was left to sit in crowded A&E for over 10 hours with suspected meningitis (later confirmed) !

Review titled The doctor I saw is an absolute star
by hekatw77 - Posted on 23 October 2023
Was sent to A&E by my GP for ongoing chest pains. Was triaged fairly quickly and taken for an ECG. Taken to SDEC and had blood tests, then sat waiting for about 3 hours to then be informed their system had gone down. Had to go home, as I have 2 young kids so couldn't wait any longer. Never got to see a doctor, found most staff to be very dismissive. Got a call from a doctor when I was home saying my bloods were showing markers they wanted to investigate further. Went back the next day, was quick to have obs done and then waited a little over an hour for a Doctor. I have to say, the doctor is why I'm writing this. They were amazing. They listened to my concerns with empathy, they understood I'm a mum of 2 children below the age of 4, with a bad family history of cancer, and I was absolutely terrified. I also had to go alone as I was able to get cover for the kids but my partner wasn't able to get off work. I was quickly sent for a chest x-ray, when that came back clear they immediately covid tested me and took another set of bloods to rule out thyroid issues or blood clots. Waited for the results and the doctor was able to discharge me with antibiotics for chest and urine infections. I understand hospitals are understaffed, underfunded and lacking resources so wait times can be affected. What I can't understand is how 9/10 members of staff can be so lacking in compassion and understanding in a room full of poorly, scared people. The doctor I saw is an absolute star, and I think some of the more seasoned members of staff could learn a lot from their doctor's manner with their patients.

Review titled A Magical Experience
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Honor Wojcik - Posted on 25 October 2023
I went into labour on Wednesday 11th October and had the most amazing experience, the midwives and all the staff treated me like I was the only girl in the world and I felt so special. They also made my partner and mum feel so included and special, it felt very personal. I felt safe and enjoyed the experience so much it brings tears of joy to my eyes. I gave birth to my beautiful 1st baby the following morning on the 12th and it truly was so magical. I had to return a few days later as my baby had jaundice but yet again the staff were amazing, they were quick to treat my daughter and we were really well looked after. It’s something I will never forget for all the right reasons. Thankyou to the amazing midwives and doctors.

There is a total lack of patient care. Complete lack of communication in reference to prescribed medication. Totally obstructive staff leaving me without advice or repeat medication extremely disappointing service

Review titled Attended A&E about suspected fracture
by Delyp88 - Posted on 25 September 2023
Fantastic set up for the ED triage, followed by minor injuries and X-ray dept. Despite prefab units, long walks to different elements of my journey, the whole process was efficient and done within 2 hours. All staff were friendly, approachable and clearly looked to me as a customer, to enjoy their work in a family feel environment. All of which made me feel safe and comfortable despite my pain. Thank you.

Review titled Staff

I would like to say how much I valued the help and support give by the Health Care Assistant in the Gastroenterology Department on 13th September 2023. She kept me informed of the waiting time and helped me prepare for my examination. As I am wheelchair bound and not able to stand I valued her care and help. Such a really lovely person.

Review titled Outstanding nurse
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Steven - Posted on 11 October 2023
I came in because I had ruptured my achilles. The rupture was pretty clear and I was dealt with smoothly and quickly throughout, with lots of thought to helping me get around. I particularly want to pick out the nurse who saw me. I wishI was allowed to use her name in this post as her actions and care made a huge difference to me in my later treatment. Although the rupture was clear, and so no xray would normally be warranted, she was concerned about unusual bruising higher up the calf and so ordered an xray. That xray showed an avulsion fracture and its early diagnosis made a big difference to the treatment, including the type of surgery that I went on to have. I am grateful to all the Stoke Mandeville A&E staff, but particularly to *** for her care, but also her knowledge and experience.

Review titled Immense respect

111 provided excellent assessment to be referred to Stoke Mandeville ED who continued the excellent good humoured professional service under relentlessly challenging conditions ( including the cleaning team). Full respect to all participants and thank you for working ridiculous hours in an under resourced service to support everyone.

Review titled Amazing experience.
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Stephanie Saunders - Posted on 02 September 2023
We recently got sent to a&e after calling 111 for my 2 year old daughter. Each member of staff couldn’t have been any more helpful. Nothing seemed to much for anyone. As a parent taking your child into the hospital can be very daunting. The hospital was clean and tidy. Everyone spoke to my daughter and not once did I fell I wasn’t listened to. I cannot thank the NHS staff at Stoke Mandeville enough.
