  1. Review titled Excellent Palliative care team

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Marie Young Chlebeckova - Posted on 19 June 2023

Even though the Hospital and Emergency department were extremely busy during the time my Mum was hospitalised, (and described as being ‘in crisis’ by the staff themselves), I can only say how professional, compassionate and supportive the staff were between the days of 20th - 24th May 2023. My Mum was treated with dignity and empathy. Especially the Palliative Care team - please pass on my family’s sincere thanks to the whole Palliative care team as I understand no names can be mentioned in any reviews). I hope you will be able to read this.

My sister attended a and e suspected heart attack , had an ecg and was told she needs to wait for a doctor , blood tests were taken at around 8pm and is now 23.16 pm still jo results to be left I pain still no doctors available and a nurse said if it was urgent a doctor would have seen you by now! We still don't have blood results as they need to been by a doctor first , she's still in pain chest going through to her back and has now left the hospital. Remains at home in pain and said ill be ok as nurse said if I was in trouble doctor would have seen me . This is disgusting behaviour. I've call emergency department 24 times no answer whatsoever ever .I will be taking this further as they have let her leave with no results and Condition no better .

  3. Review titled Dangerous

Rated 2 stars out of 5

My mother was taken to A &E with suspected Sepsis - a medical emergency following GP paramedic home visit. The ambulance arrived in 10minutes and were brilliant. Took us to Stoke Mandeville, where we joined the queue of trolleys in a corridor -20 trolleys. The ambulance crew handed over to another ambulance crew who seem to manage the queue outside A & E until the department can finally triage patients. For us that was a 2hr wait. Mum had hypothermia too which caused a problem in the queue as the ambulance crew had given her a 'bear hugger' to warm her up which needed to be plugged in and the gap between sockets was to great to move her along the queue. We were moved into a cubical in the department - mainly to access an electric socket. At this point there were another 8 trolleys with people waiting not in cubicles in the department. After another 2hrs someone finally took some blood test and we saw a doctor. So a 4hr wait with a medical emergency before mum was seen by anyone other than the ambulance crew. The whole of A & E was heaving with people - not a single seat in the waiting room, every cubical full and nearly 30 people waiting on trolleys. The staff were run ragged. The most worrying thing -when we did finally see the doctor - he told us their staff are going to be cut! The management have decided that can manage with fewer staff! I can only presume the management have not had the misfortune to either be a patient or work in the department. Far from cutting staff they should be instigating a full A and E department at High Wycombe to take off some of the pressure on Stoke. People are going to die as a result of their action.

  4. Review titled A&E visit - broken arm

    by julietgj63 - Posted on 19 April 2023

My husband attended A&E during April. Being a day of striking we expected long queues. He was out within 2 hours having had 2 X-rays and been seen by hospital staff and been to the pharmacy. Amazing service thank you.

  5. Review titled Fantastic care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Julie - Posted on 19 April 2023

I have attended twice for a hysteroscopy with the same consultant. Both times have been a breeze. All the nurses are wonderful and help to put you at ease. My consultant couldn’t be more inspiring or reassuring. I am quite an anxious patient and google doesn’t help. If you are like me please be assured that on both occasions I would describe my procedure as completely pain free. Any discomfort was very mild, negligible in fact and the procedure was incredibly quick. I would like to express a huge thank you to the team at SMH who have taken care of me there over the last couple of years. You really couldn’t be in better hands.

  6. Review titled Great A&E childrens service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Jenni Homewood - Posted on 03 April 2023

I want to say how impressed I was with the A&E department today (2/04/23.) It was well ran, organised, friendly staff, and although it was busy they were able to quickly triage and support my granddaughter. One hears so many negative stories about A&E but this hospital is getting it right. Proud of all NHS staff who are up against the worst times ever and yet deliver time and time again. Well done SM A&E

  7. Review titled Apathetic response from PALs

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 26 April 2023

I emailed PALs asking for help with my referrals. The lady I spoke to was callous & abrasive .Her tone and attitude were disrespectful. I felt like I was on a trial for committing a heinous crime. Since 2021 I have been in agony and things have deteriorated but all referrals completed last year have been put as routine, still waiting , no one has a clue of what is wrong with me and not really interested to know. The person I spoke to didnt even want to hear me out. She kept asking me what i expected PALs to do regarding my referrals. I regret contacting PALs as it made me feel even worse . According to the lady , my health issue is not “life threatening “ so I have to wait. I work with people and I wouldn’t speak to anyone the way she spoke to me. Maybe that is how she is trained to do to put people off from contacting PALs.

  8. Review titled Nurses really dismissive

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 15 April 2023

We come in for the 8th time in 9 months with an ovarian cyst which the operation keeps getting move. Head surgeon said this needs operating on soon! We have come back in with vomiting and sicknesss and upon trying to explain what is happening we were asked stupid questions such as, have you eaten something dodgy. I think tried to explain my partner needed to go onto fluids and antisickness as quick as possible, as we have had this 8 times before. This was ignored and we were made to sit and wait for 5 hours, which saw my partner get more lethargic and almost too weak to speak. This hospital is going down and down

  9. Review titled Explained everything to me

by Cazz - Posted on 03 March 2023

I would just like to give a positive review about the endoscopy department at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. Today I was given a gastroscope and was obviously feeling anxious. The staff were absolutely amazing. So kind, professional and explained everything to me. A huge thank you to the team.
