Review titled Poor experience
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 13 April 2023
My Gastro operation, no need for details was done in a rush & little feedback afterwards. However my main issue is with the Day care ward/department, the nurse did not allow me time to recover from operation & woke me up to drag me to toilet every 20 minutes to pass urine , I eventually felt dizzy & had to lie down, after 10 minutes she came back & tried to drag me to toilet again! No consideration is given to patients when they have had a fairly serious operation , it’s just in & out asap. I feel traumatised by this treatment & terrified if I ever have to undergo any further operations. I was actually strong armed to toilet , it was not a request , the nurse took hold of my arm & dragged me toilet . Very disappointed

Review titled Excellent care

Even though my A&E experience was a bit stressful due to the long waiting hours, once I was admitted to the Mary Seacole South ward, I received excellent care. Every single member of staff was extremely friendly, helpful, kind and knowledgable. I have been very, very well looked after and I felt safe and secure and treated with respect. A huge thank you to everyone in the haematology team- they are excellent practitioners and I was very happy to having them treating my condition.

Review titled Excellent Service

I phone NHS 111 late on 30/01/2023 because I was having pain which, with my health history, could indicate a heart problem. I waited for my turn to come for perhaps 20 minutes, then was asked relevant questions and I could feel that I was being listened to. It was arranged that a clinician would ring me. A very pleasant and attentive GP/clinician did ring me 5 minutes later and told me I should be checked in person. I received a text, and another phone call from the GP telling me to go to Whittington Hospital ED at 9am this morning. I arrived at the Whittington at 8.50am, was processed immediately by Reception, had my blood pressure taken by a nurse and questions asked. I was only a short time in the waiting room before I was called by a doctor who gave me a thorough physical check while asking about my health history. He was cheerful, attentive and inspired complete confidence. I was very relieved to be given a convincing all-clear. I exited the service within 30 minutes of entering - unbelievably fast. I want to praise the 3 staff members, the man in reception, the triage nurse and the doctor very highly. I only felt sympathy for them that they had to work in a dismal, dull and dirty environment. But they did so with great pleasantness, patience, courtesy and attention to the patients. I had received an excellent and completely reassuring service.

Review titled Horrible

Avoid A&E department at any cost. I was waiting six hours and left home with not being seen by a doctor. After two hours wait, nurse at check in told me there are three patients before me on the waiting list. Four hours later, still not my turn. I went to receptionist to ask when I’m gonna be seen, she was extremely rude and threatened me with security if I don’t live a desc as I was insisting on information. On a top of my shoulder and arm pain, I left the hospital completely frustrated. On my way home in Uber, I received a call from hospital if I’m still around to be seen by doctor, and how sorry they are about what happened (I don’t believe you are really sorry at all). I understand that the health system is under a pressure, there is a shortage of stuff, but this is unacceptable to happened. This is disrespect of the patients. Also, worth to mention that the level of hygiene is very poor.

Review titled Poor after care
Rated 3 stars out of 5

I had a major operation in the Day Clinic , I assume it went well, given very little information. As soon as I woke up from the anaesthetic, I was marched to the toilet by a nurse to see if I could pee, I was given no time to recover , it was 1 pm & the Day clinic does not close till 8pm . I was then marched to the toilet every 20 minutes , on the fifth attempt I felt very dizzy & had to lie down. Their policy is as soon as you use the toilet you are discharged. I was deeply shocked by the treatment I received & find it unreasonable as a patient should be given a little time to recover. Even after I felt faint, the same nurse tried to strong arm me to the toilet , complete madness. I find the treatment inhumane & cruel. Disgusting!

Review titled Wonderful staff at A &E
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Susan Dawkins - Posted on 04 January 2023
From the receptionist to my final Dr, I was treated with care and compassion. Admittedly I was “real” heart emergency case so may have got fast tracked, but I felt looked after and really thoroughly examined. I hope my comments will get passed on to the staff - it was mid day on Tuesday 3 January.

Review titled Quick and caring service at A&E
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Susannah Taylor - Posted on 20 December 2022
I went to A&E with a very painful, swollen knee after a fall. I was quickly directed to the ‘pod’ by staff in reception and was seen by a Dr within 10 minutes. After discussing my symptoms and examining my knee, the Dr sent me off for an x-ray. This was carried out without any wait and I returned to the ‘pod’ to see the same Dr and hear the diagnosis. She explained that I had fractured my patella, gave me a leg brace, a crutch and a referral to the fracture clinic. Also advice on how to manage the pain until the clinic contacted me with an appointment. The next day the clinic phoned me with an appointment within a week and further advice on self care in the meantime. I was very impressed with the caring attitude of all the staff who have looked after me and the speed at which I was seen and diagnosed. Thank you Whittington Hospital.

Review titled Appalling and heartbreaking
Rated 1 star out of 5

As an ex-employee of the Whittington hospital (I worked there for over 15 years and I was proud of “my” hospital) it really hurts me to leave this review, but I just went through the most appalling AE experience of my life, and one nobody should go through. After waiting for 9 hours I left unseen, as I couldn’t take being sat on an uncomfortable chair in a freezing room for that long. Staff didn’t even bother communicating with patients, some of them had been there for 10 hours. Instead, triage nurses and reception staff were loudly laughing and bantering, talking about trainers and cocktails…in the meantime a room full of very cold and unhappy patients was left unattended, no explanation, no words of comfort, no updates…the initial 4-5 hour wait went up to 9 hours and nobody cared to update us. I am a cancer patient, I was in pain, I felt neglected..and I wasn’t the only one feeling that way. A really horrendous hospital experience I hope I never have to repeat.

Just wanted to say how much I appreciated all the staff who helped during my visit yesterday. Everyone I spoke with was helpful, patient, warm, professional and cheerful. I was feeling anxious about the procedure and they put me at ease at every step.
