  1. Review titled Quick and caring service at A&E

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Susannah Taylor - Posted on 20 December 2022

I went to A&E with a very painful, swollen knee after a fall. I was quickly directed to the ‘pod’ by staff in reception and was seen by a Dr within 10 minutes. After discussing my symptoms and examining my knee, the Dr sent me off for an x-ray. This was carried out without any wait and I returned to the ‘pod’ to see the same Dr and hear the diagnosis. She explained that I had fractured my patella, gave me a leg brace, a crutch and a referral to the fracture clinic. Also advice on how to manage the pain until the clinic contacted me with an appointment. The next day the clinic phoned me with an appointment within a week and further advice on self care in the meantime. I was very impressed with the caring attitude of all the staff who have looked after me and the speed at which I was seen and diagnosed. Thank you Whittington Hospital.

  2. Review titled Appalling and heartbreaking

Rated 1 star out of 5

As an ex-employee of the Whittington hospital (I worked there for over 15 years and I was proud of “my” hospital) it really hurts me to leave this review, but I just went through the most appalling AE experience of my life, and one nobody should go through. After waiting for 9 hours I left unseen, as I couldn’t take being sat on an uncomfortable chair in a freezing room for that long. Staff didn’t even bother communicating with patients, some of them had been there for 10 hours. Instead, triage nurses and reception staff were loudly laughing and bantering, talking about trainers and cocktails…in the meantime a room full of very cold and unhappy patients was left unattended, no explanation, no words of comfort, no updates…the initial 4-5 hour wait went up to 9 hours and nobody cared to update us. I am a cancer patient, I was in pain, I felt neglected..and I wasn’t the only one feeling that way. A really horrendous hospital experience I hope I never have to repeat.

  3. Review titled Wonderful staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Just wanted to say how much I appreciated all the staff who helped during my visit yesterday. Everyone I spoke with was helpful, patient, warm, professional and cheerful. I was feeling anxious about the procedure and they put me at ease at every step.

  4. Review titled Very good experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by LILIANA RENE AFIF - Posted on 12 November 2022

I came for a diagnostic endoscopy on Saturday, 12 November. All of the staff were very friendly, helpful and kind. The procedure was done on time, and I was given the result (good) very soon after. Altogether a good experience. I would like to say thank you to all involved.

  5. Review titled Excellent Service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Martin - Posted on 11 November 2022

I was admitted to A & E on 07.11.22 at about 11.00 pm by Ambulance. I was seen very quickly and arranged to have a CT scan of my head. This was complete within 2 hours. Then my head was cleaned up and my eyebrow bandaged. The nurse was very attentive to my needs. The doctor came to tell me that I could be discharged and made another appointment on 11.11.22 at Royal Free to dress one of the wounds. I then left A& E at 05.00 and took a cab home. Very efficient service. Thank you

  7. Review titled Probably the worst hospital I have experienced

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 15 October 2022

I had to be taken to A and E at the Whittington hospital. Firstly, people were being left in the corridor, and the place is best described as chaotic. It is dirty, shabby, disorganised and clearly not fit for purpose. It seems to be drastically understaffed, and the staff that are there seem to have given up. To a person they were either surly or uninterested and sometimes both. There is virtually no patient care, on the unit I was on there were six beds, I did not see any nurses voluntarily come to check on anyone in the 14 hours I was there, unless someone went to ask them for help. If you wanted water you had to get your own (which is nigh on impossible if you are so ill you have to be in A and E) and patients were shouting for help which was being ignored. Patients were having to try and help each other, which is totally unacceptable. One drink was offered whilst I was there from a trolly staffed by an extremely surly man, who shouted at us, whadda ya want, and then gave us a cup of tea made with barely warm water. If this is the state of the nhs in 2022, then something needs to be done urgently. I am not joking when I say that dying at home seems to be a better prospect than a visit to this hospital. I was transferred to a different hospital and the care there was totally different. The difference being the second hospital was clean, and the staff seemed to care about the patients. I saw none of that at the Whittington. Although I can hold my hands up and say maybe this is due to it being severely understaffed? I don’t know, but I would not like to have to go there again. This view is solely my own opinion of my experience there.

  10. Review titled Horrendous experience

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 09 December 2022

I attended the urgent treatment care centre, 7 hours on and no one seen me. 0 communication from staff, staff are walking around chatting and laughing. The waiting room is filthy and freezing cold. Feel completely neglected, sitting in pain. Some people’s been sitting here for over 10 hours. Probably the worst service I ever received.
