Review titled Put my faith back in the nhs
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Mandy osborne - Posted on 22 August 2023
I was seen by the man in charge of minors when going in with a twisted knee . The staff in a and r to triage to radiology to minors department was absolutely fantastic , caring kind and curtious even though they was run off there feet . Work in nhs for 20years plus as a anp and had lost faith in my local nhs but the way the minors in a and e is run is fab and the staff work so well together clearly a fab and organised team . Thanks for taking care of me marks out of 10 I give you 20 because you went Above and beyond not just with me I witnessed your care to many . Thankyou

Review titled Midwives & Infant Feeding Team
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Lindsay - Posted on 10 August 2023
On the 9th of July thanks to the amazing midwives from Torbay hospital and Whitelake I was able to have my baby girl at home and had the best experience. The midwives were professional and so caring which made me feel at ease and that I knew I made the right decision to have her at home with their support. Thank-you also to the infant feeding specialist team who helped me with feeding in the early days, my breastfeeding journey is going so much smoother now and I'm so happy. Thank-you!

Review titled Very happy patient
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Jacquie Shorter - Posted on 05 July 2023
I was admitted to A & E with heart problem, where I was looked after exceedingly well by everyone. I was transferred to AMU. where I was monitored and looked after by all members of staff. The catering was above my expectations and I can not recommend Torbay Hospital enough. There was a waiting time when I got there first but they assessed me when I immediately arrived as they were busy.

Review titled Outstanding Care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Barry Hingston - Posted on 17 July 2023
Twice inside a fortnight I have needed to go into Torbay Hospital. I have had to interact with over 40 members of the hospital team. Paramedics, a+E wards Allerton & a+e4 surgical, Gastro, urology, oncology, diabetes, palliative, porters, CT operators and not forgetting cleaners and catering staff. It’s been a very traumatic time for me & my family. Initially having a ruptured stomach ulcer to the CT finding multiple terminal cancers. All of which were totally unknown to me. The care , consideration and treatment I have been given is truly outstanding. Even more so when I have had time to watch the Hospital staff deal with members of the public whilst trying to do their jobs. At every stage I have felt in good hands. I don’t believe I was simply fortunate to of had the right people at the right time. I needed to many over an extended period of time for it to simply be good luck. It shows the level of training, commitment and exceptional people involved with the Hospital is outstanding. Whilst my body needed treatments & tests. It was never forgotten that I was a person. The impact of a terminal diagnosis is devastating however the way in which that prognosis is delivered is so important and for me it was both caring and professionally done. Particularly the consideration for my wife. Then also my extended family. Undergoing numerous tests, transfusions and a biopsy over a 10 day period. Then being taught how to deal with my equally newly diagnosed type 1 diabetes due to pancreatic cancer. Could have been completely over whelming yet the compassion and time given to me was exemplary. At every stage every interaction with a member of the hospital team was truly amazing. It was obvious to me all departments were interacting and overlapping for my treatment. Having time when you are recuperating to observe not just my own care but others. Also how staff go about their daily duties it was astonishing to me just how absolutely every member of staff was so professional. What took it to another level was the manner in which they all went about it. I’m sure it’s trained for them to try to be bright and cheerful around patient's to create a pleasant atmosphere for healing. However it’s wonderful as patient to have a cleaner be cheerful and say something positive. Simply interact. The catering staff understanding their role as one of great importance. Smiling making jokes as they take your orders, deliver your food & clear up. Simply taking the time to interact. I was blown away by the food because you hear so many people knocking hospital food. I understand the criteria around food in hospitals and it’s logistics. Taking this into consideration what I received surpassed my expectations. Especially a simple cup of tea and a few biscuits at 02:30 am. In summary my experience of Torbay Hospital has been one of one of outstanding care. I’m truly appreciative of the way I was treated. At this level our NHS is in great hands Thank you Barry Hingston

Review titled very good, effective, thorough and kind care - cornea clinic
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Dave Bateman - Posted on 15 July 2023
In Feb '23, I had a serious flare up in my L cornea - herpes infection. My eyesight was greatly compromised as my R eye has macular degeneration so the L eye is my 'good' eye. I was given the very best of care from all of the many doctors that I saw - on one occasion staying late into a Friday evening to locate medication for me in the community as the hospital pharmacy had closed. I have now regained a very good proportion of my eyesight. So much thanks and appreciation are due to the Consultant and their team.

Review titled Seizure
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Jeremy Windows - Posted on 25 July 2023
I had a seizure on holiday in Dartmouth. The hotel porter phoned for an ambulance which arrived within half an hour. I was treated in the ambulance while going to hospital. The crew gave a full report to the doctor and later myGP. I was given a brain and chest scan and found to have a chest infection which was treated with antibiotics. When all complete I was picked up by my son and returned home to Bristol. I cannot express enough praise on the doctors nurses and ambulance crew. I am now home feeling better waiting to go to my GP for a follow up. Well done!!

Review titled Well managed but over staffed
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Alison - Posted on 15 July 2023
Overall good experience-staff friendly and polite -but what I did notice was how many staff there was . Must have been a quiet day for them as half did not seem to be doing much at all other than taking breaks and having a chat .This time could have been spent giving out more information to the patients who were there -as even though the process works you don’t get told anything -so you are just sat wondering what’s going on with your case . Ie where you are in the queue -what’s going to happen -when you are taken somewhere it’s good to know why . Definitely room for communication improvement.
