Review titled Excellent Day Surgery Dept
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Jan & Perce (Milan) Prlina - Posted on 09 June 2023
Thank-you to each and every member of staff who looked after my partner when he came in for surgery today. Everybody was absolutely wonderful, so patient and so kind and caring to both my partner and myself (even when we became tetchy because we were so tired.) We are extremely lucky to have you. You are worth every penny you earn - and much, much more! 💞

my pregnant partner received the best care possible after coming into accident and emergency due to being breathless, the quick kind care and excellent medical attention she was given meant that they found a diagnosis promptly. I cannot express how happy and greatful I am for the a&e doctor and the cdu rn. Thank you

Review titled Brilliant experience.

Have had two operations for skin cancer performed at Torbay. The surgeon I had both times was very understanding and tolerant of my fear. He could not have been better if I was in a private London hospital. I have now seen him for operations and check ups about eight times and I actually look forward to seeing him. I’ve had a couple of minor negative experiences previously but not with this problem. The anaesthetist this year was marvellous. He even showed me two masks he wanted to give me oxygen with. I hate masks but was persuaded to use one and it was fine. The anaesthetic room was so friendly, the nurses in the recovery ward, and mine in particular, were charming. If you even coughed someone was there in seconds. I cannot thank the team highly enough.

Review titled Wonderful, efficient, knowledgeable and kind.

I was referred as a 2 week emergency patient. I didn’t wait more than 15 minutes. The staff were all excellent- from receptionist to the kind nurse attending my appointment. Both doctors (one training) were so knowledgeable, explaining everything to me and to my husband- I left very reassured ready for a follow up appointment. Thank you all!

Review titled A & E Wait Times Unacceptable
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 19 June 2023
Brought my husband to a & e at 11:20pm Saturday night and he didn't get to see a Doctor until 6am Sunday morning! Totally unacceptable! The disruptions from criminals that were brought in by the police (7 police in the time we were there), wasn't right as they were getting seen before everyone else that had been waiting hours, because they were making a scene. They should be put in a separate room if that's the case and wait their turn like the rest of us away from everyone else trying to deal with their own issues as to why they were in A & E. A 6 1/2 hour wait is totally outrageous. Especially, having to sit on very uncomfortable seating the whole time, not knowing when you're going to be seen. When my husband asked if he could be told when he would be seeing a doctor, the answer she gave was, "I don't know". Again, this is very wrong. You have computer systems and everyone checks in and all the details are entered when obs are taken, bloods etc. The system is totally broken and needs to be fixed. Us hard working people haven't worked all our lives, paying our national insurance to have to deal with this every time you need help with a medical issue at a & e or any department in the hospital for that matter. On a side note, the staff were amazing and we have no complaints there at all. They work very hard and do the best with what they have been given.

Review titled dreadful

My husband referred via duty doctor at newton abbot with cellulitis of face . Made to wait 8 hours into the night on a chair while intravenous antibiotics were eventually given. Then moved to the surgical referral unit and put into a side treatment room on a trolley 12 hours later- all still while spiking high temperature. When I politely asked when a bed might be made available I was not so politely told ' when they are told'. What I find staggering is that he was being kept in what was in essence a room that was for taking pre op notes/bloods etc.(there was a computer in the corner)..and not even on the ENT or general ward. Furthermore In spite of having high temperatures and a severe bacteria infection he was not even on a bed after 24 hours. I can honestly say Torbay hospital is broken beyond repair if they cant treat dangerously sick people in a proper medical environment. I have worked all over the world and in some of the poorest countries and this has still shocked me.

Don't get me wrong the start were great. The problem is there wasn't enough of them. I got triaged very quickly, but then had a 6 hour wait to see a Doc. Just not acceptable.

Review titled A&E Experience
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Stephen Hickman - Posted on 30 May 2023
I had a fall whilst on holiday and ended up in a&e. I cannot praise the staff enough. They were caring, friendly and thorough. I was called back 3 days later to be seen by the consultant to make sure everything was ok. I know I spent 7hrs there but that would have happened which ever hospital I went to.
