  1. Review titled Outstanding care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I would like to say a huge thank you to the children's community nursing team who looked after my daughter for 7 days (including christmas eve and christmas day) to continue her IV antibiotic treatment at home. Every nurse who visited our home was so friendly, supportive and a true professional. The nurses provided amazing care not only treatment but also ensuring follow up appointments were made. Thank you so much!

Visited today to check on moles. Had one removed same afternoon. Clinical staff were pleasant, knowledgeable and professional. Canteen was clean and modern.

  3. Review titled Excellent care in difficult circumstances

Rated 4 stars out of 5

I visited A&E with a GP referral as there were no beds in the medical assessment unit. I observed a lot of patients clutching letters of referral like mine. The A&E unit is currently not fit for purpose. It is old and far too small for the number of patients seen daily. In particular I found the waiting area small, crowded, depressing and uncomfortable. Doctors appeared to be scrambling for rooms in which to see patients. I observed doctors updating patients in public spaces. Myself and everyone else had observations (BP etc) taken by a nursing assistant in a corridor. There were some very poorly patients who could barely sit up. My review however is about the staff. Everyone I had personal contact with or observed during my 7 hour visit were professional, courteous and caring. The way they work in such a stressful environment is to be applauded. Thank you for the care that I received.

  4. Review titled Great experience at Treetops

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I just want to thank and commend the nurses, and ward staff at Treetops. We had a 3 night stay for my 9 month old with Bronchiolitis and were treated with so much care and kindness. All the staff were so professional, put us at ease, made us comfortable, accommodated my requests regarding sleeping arrangements, took time to make us feel like we were important regardless of how busy they were. I was even given toiletries and the opportunity each day to take care of myself while someone looked after little one. Thank you to everyone for all of their hard work.

I had an Ebus procedure today in the Cardiac day unit. From the minute i walked into reception i was treated with dignity and respect. The whole staff team gave me their full attention, they explained everything to me and were very patient and calmed me down before my procedure. I couldn't praise this tream enough. They are a credit to the department. Thank you to every single one of you.

Doctors wandering about trying doors to find another doctor is in that room. Simple suggestion, a door sign that says occupied. This will free up all this wandering time that is wasted. Who manages these places...

  7. Review titled Outstanding care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

To everyone on Ward Two - Thank you. Dedicated and highly focused efficiency, professionalism, care and compassion are a few of the words that summarise my experience of the NHS from first calling 999, ambulance staff, CT scan, treatment on Ward Two through until discharge barely 24 hours later. Whether it was the young lady on Ward Two keeping me supplied with endless cups of tea, the medics sorting out my treatment or the supporting staff you were absolutely faultless. Thank you. The cost of this care £0. The NHS is the nation’s crowning glory and rightly the envy of the world - we all have a duty to protect it for future generations.

  8. Review titled Pregnancy Consultant Appointments Fantastic

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Savannah Cheetham - Posted on 10 October 2023

I am under a pregnancy consultant at Durham hospital pregnancy assessment unit. Currently 22 weeks pregnant. I had early bleeding due to a large hematoma, as well as a chronic pain condition. Every time I have gone in for a scan, check up, or just my consultant appointments, I have been looked after and cared for brilliantly. Please pass on my thanks to everyone including my own consultant (I won’t name her as I read to keep individual names out of reviews) alongside the lady I saw today at 11am 10th October - in place of my regular consultant. I was a little nervous to be seeing someone different but she was also brilliant, kind, caring and reassuring. So please also pass this on to the lady I saw today who was working under my usual consultant. I wish I were allowed to name names! Pregnancy can be so lonely, it’s my first baby and I have consistently received quality care at the antenatal department/pregnancy assessment unit at Durham University Hospital. The NHS is already under so much pressure and I truly believe that positive feedback is important to those who are so caring and considerate each day. Even the receptionists and ladies who do my blood pressure/urine samples, scans etc, are always so kind and reassuring. I am coming off of a medication so that I can hopefully breastfeed (with my GP) but it has left my mental health/anxiety in a bad place understandably. The antenatal appointments at Durham hospital have always made me come away feeling at ease, supported, and listened to. Thank you so much to everyone in this department who work tirelessly supporting couples/individuals with their pregnancies. Kind regards, Savannah C

  9. Review titled Passed from pillar to post

Rated 3 stars out of 5

An elderly friend was admitted as an emergency due to a hip fracture. First she had to wait in A/E for many hours before a bed was found on Ward 16, from there she had surgery. She hadn’t been in the ward 16 for very long before she was moved to ward 14 in early hours of the next morning. She’d just settled there when she was moved back to ward 16 again. This was obviously very unsettling for her. After a few days on ward 16 she was deemed fit for transfer to Shotley Bridge hospital. She was told to make her self ready for transfer just after mid morning. She waited all day wondering what was happening, as no one updated her. She’d told her partner not to visit as she was being moved to another hospital. She waited until 10pm that night before an ambulance arrived to transfer her. She didn’t arrive at the next hospital until almost 11pm, considering she was elderly & in pain, this was quite disappointing for her. All in all, the communication from staff (medics and nurse team) was quite poor.

  10. Review titled Amazing staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Sophie Anderson - Posted on 08 October 2023

Had my daughter at UHND in October and due to antenatal issues had to visit both PAU and Antenatal clinics multiple times. Not once did I feel let down by the staff. Each visit I felt supported, listened to and cared for. Each check was thorough and explained to me. On the week of delivery I again had to visit multiple times and I was made to feel at ease and understood. All three wards were so conscientious and made me feel safe in their care and communication was spot on. During delivery I couldn’t fault any of the staff, my midwives began to feel like friends and family and I was put at ease throughout. They were so professional and answered all my questions and queries. I couldn’t have had the birth I had without them. I felt they really championed me and my wishes and helped bring my daughter safely into the world whilst also advocating for me. All checks were on time and thorough and this also applied to the post natal ward. Medication was offered, and all checks were efficient so I wasn’t conceded at all. My daughter needed extra checks and monitoring and again everything was explained and made sure I understood why and what.
