  2. Review titled A Great Team at Accident and Emergency

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Pat Addinell - Posted on 10 July 2023

I arrived at AandE after falling on my face and still bleeding. Throughout my visit, I felt respected and treated as an individual, even tho' several members of staff were involved. Reception was quick and thorough, and from then on I experienced great continuity of care - stitches, bleeding stopped, Xrays, monitoring, tetanus shot, medications and verbal and written discharge info. The communications between all staff and the Xray department worked, and my treatment was timely and coordinated. All done in a warm, friendly manner. Thank you Whitehaven.

  3. Review titled Excellent care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Denise Mann - Posted on 05 August 2023

On 25th July I attended for hip replacement surgery. I was of course apprehensive never having had this done before, however the staff were caring, considerate and made me feel confident. Throughout my treatment the care was amazing, nothing was too much trouble for the staff that were involved in my care. From the anaesthetist, the surgeon and theatre staff, I was made to feel safe. Everything was explained in great detail. Everyone was great making me feel safe and secure and they cared about me. In recovery, again I was really well cared for, the staff were friendly and caring and the surgeon came along to have a look at how I was and chat about how things had gone. I was taken to the ward where once again, I was treated with care and consideration. There was just one nurse on for the night shift, however every time I needed anything she was there for me smiling, kind and caring. I think she was looking after 4/5 of us that night and I know she was busy because I could hear one lady shouting out all the time and another was in tears quite a lot. Nevertheless she dealt with it all so well and I was given everything I needed. When the day staff came on, once again they were friendly caring and courteous. The routine went like clockwork, for physio, X-rays blood etc. all the time these nurses and physio were friendly and smiling at all times. I cannot thank them all enough, given the times we are going through I cannot think of any one thing that could have been done better. A huge thank you to them all, each and every one made me feel cared for. What a great team of people they are.

by Barry McManus - Posted on 06 July 2023

My wife had appointment at Pre-op assessment unit on level 2.We had arrived on the correct date, but unfortunately 6 hours early. The reception & clinical staff were able to avoid my wife having to return for the allotted time. Being old we were grateful to the people in the unit. For the caring and sympathy shown they deserve great credit.

  5. Review titled Great team providing excellent care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Mike J - Posted on 25 June 2023

We had the experience of an unwell child, went to GP who immediately recommended hospitalisation. Went up to the hospital, welcomed into the ward and the team there immediately checked our child, nursing team then doctors. Nursing team were caring, conscientious, helpful and kind. The doctors were great saw him on arrival and each morning. Explained things well and clearly despite the challenge of understanding the symptoms. The support given made a difficult time easier whether providing cups of tea or cleaning the room to the more challenging problem of assessing the cause of the problem our child had. Bye the bye, a great play room.

I was admitted to the Whitehaven Hospital Day Care Unit for Total Knee Replacement Surgery. Form initial check-in at the PreOp to the Surgery Itself, Recovery Room and Ward 1 Post Op; I was treated with the utmost care and respect. I can find no fault with any of the procedures or staff Even the food was quite OK. All in all my stay was made quite acceptable by the assurances and professionalism of all concerned in my treatment. My grateful thanks to all at the Hospital for such a high standard of service.

  7. Review titled Well Done A&E (Majors)

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by John Wall - Posted on 16 May 2023

My mother was recently admitted for X-Ray and Scan. It could have been a traumatic experience as she is 103yrs old and has a fear of hospitals. However all the staff were expressly professional in putting her at ease while doing what had to be done in a friendly and reassuring way. Even staff not directly involved gave a cheerful smile as they passed by in the corridor. Please pass on my full appreciation to all at A&E (Majors) for the assistance given to Mum and me (as carer) during our time with you. Thank you John Wall

  8. Review titled Great staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Matthew Carney - Posted on 03 June 2023

I was treated on ITU and ward 2 and in both cases I was treated with kindness and respect. All staff bar none were professional and friendly. I was told by the doctor that I was to be discharged but my medication was not sorted out before the pharmacy closed. The nurse in charge on ward 2 on 1/6/23 at 16.30pm went over and above her normal duty to sort out my medication to enable my discharge. Your hospital is so lucky to have so many dedicated people working there. Also as we were away from home on holiday my wife had to find accommodation and one of your staff helped find her accommodation and 2 even offered the spare room in their own home!

  10. Review titled High praise!

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by David Lace - Posted on 03 May 2023

Following a series of appointments with various specialist from Carlisle, Whitehaven and Workington I was admitted to the day case unit on 29th April 2023 for Prostate surgery. (This wasn’t the common or garden male prostate problem, because there’s a tumour involved!) From the very start I was put at ease with a dedicated nurse who explained everything to me in easily understood terms. An anaesthetist arrived shortly afterwards to discuss the different types of anaesthetic with me. He was followed by the surgeon who arrived to discuss the entire procedure. Not long after this one of the theatre staff arrived to take me to theatre and all the way there we laughed and joked that my dressing gown made me look like Rocky Balboa. The humour continued until I was unconscious and definitely helped to put me completely at ease! I was in and out of theatre within a couple of hours and then moved into the recovery area before being transferred to Ward 1 where I remained until my discharge on Tuesday 2nd May. I have nothing but praise for everyone who looked after me during my time on Ward 1 and I remain convinced that I couldn’t have experienced better care in the private sector! My deepest gratitude and my sincere thanks to every single person who dealt with me! Thank you all, David Lace.
