  1. Review titled Incredible Phlebotomy staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 24 July 2023

A huge thank you to the superhero nurses in the Phlebotomy outpatient department. 3 nurses today, 24/7/23 on the 2pm shift helped my husband who was losing consciousness and nearly fainted after a fasting blood test. They ensured he had his privacy and dignity maintained by shutting the door and all of them assisting him so that he did not get injured if he fell. They went above and beyond and remained calm yet on the ball. They even offered him their M&S biscuits to help bring his blood sugar back once he regained consciousness. They were so friendly to me and kept me calm and allowed me to attend to help support him. Big big thank you! We will treasure your kindness! I often get blood tests myself for my health issues and all nurses and always so kind and caring and welcoming. It is evident how hard they work. Please ensure their management and the nurses involved are told:)

  2. Review titled Brilliant staff and very good practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 28 July 2023

I brought myself to A&E in Whiston yesterday to get checked over. I’m pregnant with my first child (first trimester) and was nervous with being in my early 20s and I also just don’t like hospitals in general. I came in due to severe vomiting and nausea that I’d had for over a week and wanted to get checked over. I hadn’t drank or been able to eat. I was worried about being dehydrated and I was hoping to be given something to ease the sickness. All staff in the department were brilliant. This included the staff I saw at the desk, for triage, my blood test, moving through to another waiting room and the doctor. We were also greeted by two lovely staff members in A&E who were giving out hot drinks to patients. All staff mentioned above were friendly, showed good practice and weren’t judgemental towards me being a young mum to be. My partner / father of the child came with me for support. We were in and out of the hospital in 4 hours, which we thought was very quick. During this time I’d been in triage where normal checks were done, had a blood test, had my blood pressure checked for a second time (due to it being a bit high), 2 urine samples done, seen to by a doctor and collected anti sickness from the pharmacy. We were very happy with our experience. I just wanted to leave a review so that all of the staff can get the recognition they deserve, for their hard work. As a nervous patient, I was definitely put at ease and will be returning to Whiston for the appointments throughout my pregnancy. I was worried about being turned away but all staff took my concerns seriously.

  4. Review titled It is not enough to thank

Rated 5 stars out of 5

My father who was a overseas visitor in the uk had a stroke and brought to your hospital by ambulance. He flow back to Turkey after his flight restriction was over which was 4-6 weeks advised by the doctor. Today, his gp in Turkey told him that everything necessary has been done by your hospital and you looked after him very well, he looks great and healthy now. It is not enough to thank stroke team and all others from a & e dept.

  5. Review titled The staff were so calm and reassuring

    by grumps147 - Posted on 13 July 2023

Woken by excruciating pain in centre of chest at 3 am. I sat up slowly in bed. I knew as well I wanted to go to the toilet (ongoing prostate issue). We had one of our grandchildren staying with us, so I did not want to start a panic. After going to the toilet the chest pain had eased, only if I took a deep breath did it recur. While I didn't think it was a heart attack, I still was very concerned so checked on the 111 web site. It said contact my GP. With the pain gone I waited till 8 am to access our Patches system for GP reporting. They said tests needed they could not do, so off to A&E. Whiston Hospital A&E were brilliant. Triage within two minutes of check in, bloods and ECG organised and just on 2 hours to another inner waiting room where soon seen by a doctor. Chest x-ray and several BP checks later I was seen again with good news that nothing serious or nasty had happened, it was just muscular strain pain. I was discharged 4.5 hours after admission with a come back should it get worse but take paracetamol till it eases. A&E was as usual manic, the staff were so calm and reassuring under that pressure. How they do that day after day I do not know. Bless them all, and thank you all.

  6. Review titled excuses but no help

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 10 July 2024

My finger has become more of a problem since being reset after a dislocation. I have one consultant saying it is the tendons, another saying it is the joints, i have been told any operation is dangerous, that my age may be a problem and i keep being reffered back to phisyotherapy. While the swelling has reduced the finger is staying at about 45 degrees and i am being told that is acceptable. I have had xrays but they don't show the tendons and scans haven't been offered. After 9 months i feel like i am just being kept off any waiting list.

  7. Review titled Fantastic staff in children’s A&E

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 20 July 2023

We attended the children’s A&E on 20/07/23. My 7 year old daughter had broken her arm earlier that day. The staff were all really caring & professional with her. They talked her through all of the steps during each process from initial examination, through to X-ray and then the application of the cast. She was understandably frightened and in lots of pain but they were brilliant with her and helped her feel at ease. We were also only in the hospital for 2.5 hours from checking in to being discharged with a cast and a referral to clinic. So grateful to the staff for their time, care and patience.

  8. Review titled Antenatal care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 18 July 2023

The team in the antenatal departments are great. Very approachable, informative and friendly. My recent visit to the obstetric team was great. My main issue is that patient information leaflets about the appointment you are due to attend are not included in the letters. I tried to find out prior to my appointment what it would involve as it just said obstetric appointment. A member of staff was also unsure when I called and was not able to give me any information for me to prepare for what I was attending. This was the same for a gestational diabetes test I am due to have. I had to ask what it would involve as there was no information leaflet with the letter. Can you please send out information about what the appointment will involve so that the correct preparation can take place. Had I not known what was involved for the diabetes test I would likely have turned up having had breakfast and been unable to go ahead with the test which would be a complete waste of my time and a clinical appointment that could have gone to someone else.

  9. Review titled Very caring staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by KAB - Posted on 27 July 2023

I was referred to A&E by the 111 service due to a suspected serious eye problem out of hours. I had a long wait but this was understandable as the department was so busy. I was seen by a consultant and then another doctor with particular ophthalmic knowledge and both were very professional, efficient and extremely kind and reassuring. They were satisfied that there was no immediate danger to my sight and arranged an emergency appointment for the next morning with the ophthalmic specialist. Thank you very much for the excellent treatment.

  10. Review titled Lack of continuity

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 11 July 2023

Every time I visit I have to explain my previous neonatal death. Other hospitals I have been cared for have a system for families that have suffered losses to not have to repeatedly explain the same thing time after time. I'm upset at being asked at every appointment, how many children I have, what's my history.... My booking in appointment was disastrous. The midwife appeared uncaring and was difficult to communicate with. The midwife missed off a previous emergency c-section from my records which could of had a serious impact on my care pathway. Rarely do you ever see the same member of staff. There really is no such thing as a personalised care plan. I've had appointments confirmed via text, then told they are cancelled when I've arrived at hospital. My appointments get changed so regularly it's difficult to keep up with the changes. During appointments I've heard members of staff discussing my situation in the corridor. Reg Dr speaking with consultant obstetric Dr. It's unprofessional. If I can hear you through a closed office I'm sure others can hear no problem. Despite having scans and appointments at the same trust, hospital staff unable to access scan records. Some staff have no access to some systems. No idea of past medical history if you have previously been treated at a different trust. Paper records still In use. Would highly recommend the trust speak with a charity such as SANDs, they can provide basic stickers for patients notes that will lessen the repeated blows of how old are your children, is this your first pregnancy?!
