  1. Review titled End of life care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Lauren Yates - Posted on 17 August 2023

I want to give a huge thank you to the staff for looking after my grandma in her final few days from the Paramedics who were so patient with my grandma when she was scared of what was happening to the stroke department who kept us informed and made her last couple of days so comfortable. Everyone was so kind and explained everything so thoroughly even at midnight! Thank you again from the bottom of mine and my families hearts.

  2. Review titled Reassuring experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Brenda Elliott - Posted on 15 July 2023

Attended outpatient appointment. Very welcoming receptionist. Called before my actual booked time. Examined and assured everything was okay but to refer back to my GP to be referred back if I had any worries or problems in future. Very efficient, friendly and reassuring consultation. Thank you Worthing Hospital.

  3. Review titled I can’t thank you enough

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Lisa-Marie - Posted on 23 July 2023

In 2020 I was referred to a gynaecologist to explore treatment options for my diagnosis. What followed was several appointments at various hospitals where I was always given time and patience by the consultant who would answer questions and take the time to explain and educate me on the condition. Treated with nothing but dignity and respect, I am so truly grateful to have been referred to this particular consultant, who made me feel comfortable and that I could speak openly and honestly, and ultimately feel confident in the treatment and the consultant’s skill and integrity when it came time for the surgery. March 2023 I had my surgery at Worthing hospital and it appears to have been a success. I am so grateful to the surgical team who performed this on me and from what I can tell have done a great job. I had minimal pain and an incision to be proud of for which I am particularly thankful, as I understand this was no small achievement given how the condition had progressed. The team in the recovery ward were absolutely excellent. Particularly the 2 staff who monitored me closely and were so very kind and reassuring as I came around and spent quite some time on the recovery ward. Given that this was my first (and hopefully only!) surgery/treatment I was thankful to have such fantastic people looking after me, at what was a very vulnerable point. My follow up appointment in June (at Worthing) was again excellent and as previously I was listened to, checked, and advice was given relating to some minor residual concerns. This was followed up in July via a particularly informative letter (which I was very grateful for) and an appointment at Southlands at which time I was discharged and still as grateful as ever for the care I had received. Thank you to the consultant, the surgical teams who performed so wonderfully, and the post-surgery recovery teams for helping so immensely. Under the not so great circumstances I found myself in, the quality of care and staff made it as pleasant as possible. Perhaps the only constructive feedback is I would’ve appreciated a little more advice prior to being discharged from hospital on some rehabilitative exercises but this is perhaps more personal preference and maybe this is not done for the reason of discouraging too much activity during recovery.

  4. Review titled Condescending, patronising receptionist.

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Asafe Galante - Posted on 27 June 2023

I visited Worthing Hospital A&E last night 26/06/2023 at 21:37. I arrived due to having disturbed vision and a retinal migraine. I was really struggling to fill the questionnaire in upon arrival on the screen so I asked the receptionist if there was any other way for me to complete the form and explained to her that I couldn't read properly due to my symptoms. She said "well the letters are quite big". I didn't find this comment very helpful or appropriate. Regardless of the letter size, I was still unable to see it well enough to complete the form. I tried again and asked for a chair to sit on whilst completing the form as I was feeling unwell. She said that there were no chairs available so I had to kneel on the floor. The questionnaire then reset itself so I said to the receptionist I wasn't able to complete it again because of my symptoms and that there must be another way for me to sign in. Then she told me she "didn't like my tone". I responded "Why don't you like my tone? I'm not being rude, I cannot complete it due to my disturbed vision and you must be able to help me?" She did eventually help me by doing it on her computer. I feel that A&E reception staff should be better understanding of different patient needs and not to be condescending or patronising. I found myself in A&E in a terrible situation and her attitude did not help, in fact it exuerberated my symptoms.

  5. Review titled bad procedure

Rated 1 star out of 5

by royarber - Posted on 12 June 2023

Took a friend to A&E, they were required to book in via a screen instead of with a human which took nearly ten minutes (the screen kept resetting so had to start again), rather defeating the whole point of A&E which is to provide rapid service to the need (she had suffered a coronary thrombosis).

  7. Review titled Professional and sensitive care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by DEBORAH ETTINGER - Posted on 15 June 2023

Was seen immediately and made to feel comfortable and at ease both by the initial GP and then by the nurses and surgeon. I was kept informed at every step and given detailed after-care information. I am hugely grateful, that in times of staff shortage and necessary disruption, I was cared for with patience and expert care. Sincere thanks.

  8. Review titled Wonderful Doctor and Nurse

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 20 June 2023

The system requires the result of every test to be available before the next test is performed. This means a fairly straight forward examination can take 7 hours resulting in less patient throughput and unnecessarily long delay for the patient. For example, my blood test was satisfactory but if it hadn’t been I would still have needed a scan. Proceeding with the scan before the blood test result would have saved 1½ hours. The service by the nurse and particularly doctor was impeccable, kind, empathetic and highly professional.

  10. Review titled Children’s A&E

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Carly Rushworth - Posted on 29 May 2023

The children’s A&E department at Worthing is the best A&E I have ever been too! All the staff were absolutely amazing and went above and beyond to treat my autistic daughter who has extreme anxiety and fear of the unknown. It was no easy task to maintain patience and professionalism when she was “freaking out” over having a few stitches in her knee but every member of staff managed it, from the reception desk to the doctors! I would 100% recommend this department and cannot thank them for the service they provided in such a challenging situation!
